I remember this coming out the month after I got my license. For anybody familiar with Grandmaster Flash, this was outright cringe worthy being one of the first blatantly legally sampled songs in the 90's. The idea of 'updating' a song or paying the bucks for a sample is run-of-the-mill now. But at the time I remember this track being so controversial and a strong example of 90's post-modernism finally affecting pop music in a big way.
