  • Hi, just one quick comment concerning armours and weapons. Just something you may like to know, but up to you. Your black belt (or monk) does a bonus damage if bare-handed, and as nunchucks only increase damage by 1 or so, you'll probably be better unarmed. Also, white mage should wear cloth or wooden armour, as casting magic increases threat. Your monk won't find higher defence with armour though.

  • ...Mad Pony...

    lol

  • The black belt shouldnt have a weapon to show his real uses.

  • At what point does the Blackbelt become stronger without weapons as opposed to weapons? I was using weapons until about level 20 until i tested it and found blackbelt was stronger using his fists

  • Final Fantasy! <3

  • Got the ad for the bewist final fantasy

  • actually HC bailey the best weapon for the BL belt is no weapon at all at least untill later game

  • 4:44 "I recommend getting lit..."

Me too. Preferably with Sam Adams.

  • You have quite a wealth of knowledge on the game that you go ahead a provide while playing. I'm glad you've attained recognition for your let's play's, as your videos are full of quality.

  • Lol HCBailey, apparently this was before you had your intense enthusiasm about everything involving anything in the game, its kinda funny how radically you've changed between here and say, your Chrono Cross LP

  • Why is Sleep spelled Slep

  • @SilvaSquirrel Because, like the names of the characters, making names that were more than 4 characters seemed to be beyond their capabilites

  • @SilvaSquirrel Only thing i can think is that they had a four character limit on all spells so "sleep" became "slep" . Just the way it was programmed.

  • @SilvaSquirrel Spells were only allowed 4 characters and trust me "Slep" is far from the worse one.

  • 06:19 "...if you get stoned, you're screwed."

I know, but I enjoy smoking it too much.

  • Call me crazy, but this is my favorite version of this game. Yes, it's buggy as hell, the graphics are from the mid 80s and many more problems, BUT when I play it, I get the most enjoyment because this was the first RPG I ever played and it brings me back to those days. It's pretty much the same for all the old school RPGs that have been remade. The new features and updated graphics are awesome, but I just love playing the old version that kicked my ass as a 6 year old.

  • "...Called a Med Pony(?)"

    Me:...What?

  • @HCBailly Are the people in the party guys or mixed? Cuz I thought they were guys so I named them Squall, Zell, Irvine, and Seifer lol

  • GAH...You are so soft spoken in this LP, HCBailly! I have to make sure that I stop the video before it ends because if I don't, I get blasted across the room by an ad that comes on with my speakers at full blast. I guess I shouldn't complain as this was made three years ago and you are still one of the best LP'ers out there.

  • No Soft Potions during battle, huh? Sounds like a certain enemy is going to become really annoying in the future.

  • Kin-da-la-g-g-y

  • I'll be the arsehole-over-informer WhiteMages/Wizards are female.

  • I wish I had grown up with these awesome games intead of these crappy xbox ones :(

  • @Kidanis I feel ya bruddah

  • @Kidanis thats funny. i grew up with these games and i now love xbox games. especially their exclusives. they are about as good as nintendos exclusives. its a shame playstation has no good exclusives though. they should take a few notes from xbox and nintendo.

  • @Antix Aye but I just meant all new generation games not just Xbox in my opinion most 360,ps3 and wii games are crap very rarey we get a high quality rpg such as this :(

  • @RiiidgeRaacer He got a nunchuk for the blackbelt.

  • I'm tired of playing the origins/graphically upgraded versions of this- don't know why they insist on doing that, as I'd rather play a game exactly as it was on release day...I'mma go find an emulator :P

  • @sonbuhitsunei

    NES > emulator

    just sayin :P

  • @LMAOSHIFDTSADMT Oh tell me about it lol i can't even find a working rom of FFIII (not the III that was released in the US as VI, but rather, the actual III)! Sadly, I no longer have a NES with me, and I'm not sure I could even hook it up to the HDMI tv I currently have.

  • I still watch this than the reamke GBA version lets plays actually and i have the PSP version but I watch the original final fantasy 1 plus HCbailly is entertaning :D

  • Comment removed

  • Dose armor affect evasion in the remakes?

  • Want to know something odd about my party? My Black Belt is On Par with my Fighter in HP, not my Red Mage, who is On Par with my White Mage. IDK if it's just my version (Playing the virtual console version) or I just got lucky XD

  • 6:18 "if you get stoned, you're screwed" LOL

  • Comment removed

  • hoshit...i grinded to lvl 3 and ended up with 666 gold 0.0

  • i mainly use red mages for buffs and debuffs like protect, dark, and all that other crap

  • I love the music to this game so much!

  • @rawk4God1995 All Final Fantasy soundtracks were kickass...until Uematsu left. :(

  • @j800r 'yeah I know. Oh well. at least we still have these games.

  • @j800r He didn't leave. He returned for XIV, and is supposedly going to work on the soundtrack for XV. He won't be doing Versus XIII though, Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts) will be working on that.

  • @TheLastSamurai14 I assure you, he did leave from his full time position after X. Don't blame him really. The games have gone somewhat downhill since then.

  • @j800r I agree that the games have gone downhill somewhat, but that doesn't mean that the soundtracks nowadays aren't any good. The XIII composer is actually quite nice. It's not Uematsu, by any means, but it's a good soundtrack in its own right.

  • @TheLastSamurai14 I never said the soundtracks were rubbish. They're just rubbish compared to Uematsu. And of course XIII's soundtrack was pretty good, it was composed by Uematsu's apprentice. :P

  • Now I figured out why this game is so hard. I wasn't equiping any of my armor or weapons! >.<

  • if u get stoned ur screwed... did anyone hear that? o.o

  • @tylomon Oh, get your head out of the gutter, please!

  • LIT in my opinion is useless. By the time you get access to the ocean, you'll have access to ICE, which does 20-80 on them. LIT would only do 15-60. So unless you really want to save your level 2 charges, I don't see where LIT > ICE unless you were doing a low level game since Wizards would only take like 10-15 from ICE and maybe 10-25 from LIT (it frequently hits low). That and you have more level 1 charges than 2s.

  • what does GrImp mean?

  • Jeez, I'm playing the GBA edition, and it's AMAZING how much they fixed and improved.

  • HCBaily, your party setup is a godsend in the iphone remake. The black belt can punch everything to death at level 10 and grinding is really easy.

  • You sound a tad bored compared to the later videos in this one

  • Sorry I'm a couple years late to the party. I just wanted to tell you I really like your voice. You're aren't annoying to listen to like most other LPers.

  • Man, comparing this to one of your newer videos, you are way more energetic and more into the games you do. Quite a metamorphosis.

  • Should've named the black belt Goku X]

  • 00:20 raper?????????????????

  • "The best weapon for the thief is the Rapier!" That just made me think... the best weapon for the rapist is the Rapier!

  • i used to play with 2 fighters and a white and black mage very powerful.

  • What would recommend for a setup (1st,2nd,3rd,4th) for a fighter, a black belt, a white Mage, and a black Mage.

  • In the Japanese version they never tell you to hold Reset and the other crap, they just say "Goodnight" and "Come back again!".

  • White Mage in this game a girl isn't it? the info says it's a her so would suspect so.

  • @BloodReaperZ I'm not sure, the sprite in this version of the game looks like a guy, in remakes the white mage could possibly be female

  • @HitmanJenkins1 Either way I'd like to think the White Mage is female, there for saving the world doesn't feel like a sausage fest

  • Ah, fond memories. I rolled with Fighter/BB/Black/White.

I also remember that every time I fought Chaos he used Break on my BB... prick.

    Love FF.

  • I only know two of the names lol...

Yang and Tellah... YOU SPOONY BARD!!!

  • @Rave7557Cyan: FFVI

    Minh: FFII

  • thanks for the help Im doing much better in the game but my White mage keeps on dieing from the monsters I face got any advice

    my team is

    Fighter

    Thief

    Black Mage

    White Mage

  • @MrsTwinLover

    - White mage on one of the two lower spots

    - Heal up enough between each battle

    - Use invisibility spell for the harder battles if you still struggle with the white mage. Of course he can heal himself too.

  • Why is it that healing class always use blunt weapons? O.o

  • I think the black is better left unarmed, but thats just my opinion

  • @Samaeltehdestroyer it is but not untill he class changes...i have the GBA FF 1 and my black belt hits 36 times with no wep for about 1300 damage..i think i 3 or 4 shot chaos.

  • I'm not sure about this version, but I know that in newer versions, like gba, maybe psp, and ps1, The monk is better without a weapon, you know... using fists... just a nice thing to know. (btw, monk=bl. belt, just incase somebody reads this comment and doesn't know). Sure, in future versions it says that weapons make him stronger, but it's a lie! I heard that it's supposed to be a secret for those dedicated fans. like me!

  • i really enjoy watching your early videos like this, HC. it's nice to see your progression from this to more recent LP's, like FF8 and Link's Awakening. you've definitely gotten more comfortable talking on camera!

  • "And welcome back to let's... play Final Fantasy."

Lol awkward pause. I'm glad your voice is a lot more energetic in the new LPs. I'm going to watch all the FF LPs in order... Just cause I've seen most of your Chrono Cross LP and you are one of the best LPers out there.

  • "If you get stoned, you're screwed" XD

  • @LuciD2800 i was just about to comment on that XD

  • what does harm do? I use it but it always says ineffective

  • @BlanFan2O HCBaily explained it, but harm only works on undead monsters, so it's pretty useful.

  • @MAYFLY01 oh, I must not have heard. thanks

  • wait... you have to do that to actually equip the weapon :O, no wonder i sucked so much before :P

  • huh, I always noticed that monks have higher power without any weapon at all...is it different for black belts?

  • YOU ARE A GENIUS HCBAILY!!!! Whenever I play a Final Fantasy game I turn to you for guidance in the games. Keep up the great work man.

  • i only played the PSP remake of this, and i'm only looking for how to advance charecter classes

  • 10:09

    "Temple of Beans"

    XD

    5 stars

  • Aside from FF7 this is my favorite Final Fantasy game. There's just something that's compelling about it that I love. Maybe it's how it's so reminiscent of D&D because of the Dungeon exploration and how the magic system is. The way the spells are done reminds me of daily spell casting limits from D&D.

  • Fire is good for the undead, but that's why you have Harm :) If you have two black magic casters and cannot aford to have Fire and Lit for both ALWAYS choose Lit before Fire. Because every enemies in the ocean are weak to lightning, making the ocean the perfect place to gain exp and money before Astos.

  • @jaivarsa I never trained for Astos personally. I just farmed gold till everyone that could get a silver sword got one, then I was more or less ready for everything till the lich.

  • you say yay just like my friend

  • Thanks for the tips

  • "If you get stoned your screwed!" so why is it such good "Shit" LOL xD.

  • i suck so i have to play on psp

  • Weapons: Wow, apparently, I'm missing out on good weapons for my white mage.

  • i play on my ps1 and psp its esaeir on psp tho

  • The Best team and lineup is

    1.fighter

    2.black belt

    3.white mage

    4.black mage

    They kick butt

  • "...yayy..."

lol, thats exactly how I say it

  • Wait...so theese town people want you to save their princess but you need to pay for the weapons!

  • i had to fight a madpony right while I was lvl grinding to 3. that kinda sucked.

  • I personally think buying Fire and Lit for the Red Mage is useless, those spells become obsolete very quickly and his attack is equal or better most of the time.

  • I know what you mean. I just figured that without a Black Mage, I need to be able to take out a Creep pretty fast with FIRE, due to their attack. LIT is for Sahags, due to their high evade. They don't cost much, so I figured why not.

  • @HCBailly Exactly what is the difference between the FIRE and LIT spell? I downloaded this on Wii Shop.

Does LIT have more accuracy or something?

    Also, my current party:

    Fighter: Von

    Thief: Lann

    White: Kint

Blk Mage: Drak (was Dark before, but too cliche)

What's your take on my party? Want me to give you the exact stats?

  • @JuroJack No difference. Same damage, same accuracy. The difference is,obliously,FIRE has got fire element,LIT lightning element. But if you notice in the next part ICE has got more power but same accuracy

  • @HCBailly My Party:

    Warrior

    Warrior

    Red Mage

    White Mage

  • @HCBailly Your voice and commentating style has really changed from 2008 to 2011.

  • oyu know i beat this game with my all time favorite party... Monk, Red Mage Thief... and white mage..

  • That was such an enthusiastic "Yay" when you finished the first battle! Hahaha!

  • Its become a trademark of his. Its hilarious. lol

  • This guy must be the biggest final fantasy fan in the universe!

  • i cant figure out how to save...

    :( i'm a n00b

  • there should be a save option in the menu(cant save in dungeons)

  • Go to the nearest Inn

  • Don't white (and green when they are in game) mages always use hammers/maces in FF series?

  • Comment removed

  • Ha, I just downloaded this game on the Virtual Console and I found this in the Operations Guide when reading about how to play:

    "Battle Screen

Battles take place on this screen. When you run into enemies while adventuring, the action plays out here in all its role-playing glory."

  • In games like Dungeons and Dragons, the priest or "cleric" class typically is allowed to use maces and hammers. It varies by game and god, but that's where that comes from.

The original spellcasting system was also loosely based on a D&D-type spell system, too.

  • Adding to that, undead creatures such as zombies and skeletons were typically less durable against *crushing* weapons than *stabbing* or *slashing* attacks, which is probably a big part of why priests used hammers and maces.

  • A word of advice you have to have alot of dedication to play these because leveling up while real fast when you first start up. If you level grinnd to much will take forever. This a common problem with most RPG once you get up to some where between like level 15 and like 40 (rough guesstimate depending on the game you end up have to gain like 2 to like 50 times more experince more or less than you did when you started of somewhere between level 1 and 10. Most games the highest nstatus is lv 100

  • I've been wondering, does the blackbelt end up being as super powerful as he is in the Dawn of Souls version in this game? (I am able to do over 2000 damage with him when he is barehanded in that version after using saber and haste on him)

  • The original Versio is a bit different, Dawn of Souls makes alot of stuff more handy, forexample more damageg for rouges witch makes the game much more player freindly and balances the overall difficulty level by ALOT, but it plays kinda different the the original version of the game

  • You know, have a -great day- sounds more encouraging =)

  • Man, so many bugs in this game.

  • one of your charecters should have been called WOL(warrior of light).

  • In dawn of souls its easy to have 99 eithers at all times and that means spell spam, and spell are POWERFUL in dawn of souls, It's just so overly broken.

  • One of your characters should have been named Cid. :D

  • or red, he was underated, cloud was overrated, along with aeris, and vincent!

  • This game would have been alot easier had they fixed the Intellegence bug, the Special weapons bug, and all the bugged spells.

  • heh, I'd also laugh if there was a therapist class xD

  • I have a Red Mage as my main, a Fighter, a Black Belt, and a White Mage. I LOVE Red Mages, they're so fuck**g awesome!!! The red fedora and white feather :D Though I noticed something. In the title screen when you pick your characters, they show the Red Mage as having white hair. In the actual game, it's black. Also, a few pictures of the sprites have him with white, and some others with black. And it isn't just because the Wizard has white hair; these were the same stature as the reg Red Mage.

  • shoulden't you put the fighter in front?

  • his is in the front i think you ment the monk but it's wrong because the red mage can equip better weapons.

  • the black magic seller looks realy shady and evil sorta I always thought to replace him with the merchant from RE4 (though I wish all shopkeepers were replaced with him)

  • If you walk on the left side of the city you will have the upper hand.

  • Hammers are used by white mages because White Mages are the Final Fantasy equivalent of Priests. In medieval times, some priests would fight in battles using hammers, their excuse being "the hammer only knocks them out" (although, it didn't) so that they could fight for their country without breaking their vows to the lvl80 Deathknight in the Sky.

  • Just remember to geek responsibly, okay Jaina Proudmoore?

  • :P Point taken... I don't even play World of Warcraft, just accept my nonsense for that it is :D

  • No, the best versions of FF1 & FF2 are the PS1 Origins version because they left the original difficulty intact.

  • I think PSP version is the hardest...maybe because i flee all battles XD

  • Heh, dead wrong. That version uses the old MP system, the NES and PS1 versions use the original charge system so I'd say that alone makes those versions harder.

  • Wrong. PS1 use the old MP system too.

  • Okay, maybe I worded it wrong.

By 'original charge system' I meant the MP system used in the NES version. By 'old MP system' I meant the MP system used in future Final Fantasy games. (as 'old' wasn't literal, if that makes any sense)

  • yeah final fantasy 20th ae is pretty rough due to the hightened abilities of chaos x.x and though the original is the easiest to me since black belt a party of four in nigh invincible with no armour/weapons later in the game

  • It is now that I realise how much less energetic your voice is in these videos. Your fanbase sure has grown though :D

  • that dullness hit me hard :(

  • usualy I have youtube max and my comp volume at 35 for his voice to be clear and not to loud for this my comp volume is at 100 (max)

  • I shall watch this and catch up on my 8-bit theater. For some reason I thought it a good idea to choose that team for my game...and I was right.

  • Ive always thought of w.mage as a chick o.0

i... guess it could be a guy o.0 again

  • Look at those shoulders at the class change :P

  • "if you get stoned your screwed"

    XD thats just awesome

  • Hey.. i wanted to see this LP, im actually playing trhough this game :| and i noticed... that you were a lot quieter.... now you are like.. "Hello and welcome to Let's play SOUL BLAZEEEER!!!" .... you should be more confident... :/ .... well.. i think you are now... good luck O:

  • Wrong about the Nunchaku being Black Belt's best weapon at the beginning. Bare fists are always stronger that weapons for the Black Belt. The BB's weapons are only in shops to trick you into wasting money.

  • The nun chucks are better until level 6 or 7

  • ive decided to watch all of these from the start-i hear youre a lot quieter here later on youre all like "welcome back to final fantasy SEVEEENNNN!!!!!!"

    :D

i love listening to your comentries

  • yeah when i listened the first seconds i noticed that too

  • yeah like in your final fantasy 7 one your so loud and this one i have to get really close to my computer to hear you lol

  • I have a PSP would you recommend I get ff1 + 2 for it you see I have never played them so I but I want to see how final fantasy began

  • FFL1 on psp is a good game, but they took all of the difficulty of the original out. You have mana now instead of a small number of spells, and they really seemed to beef up the knight and black belt characters.

  • Lol MANPONY

  • Yeah, I used that combo too.

  • in dos its called the chaos shrine

  • I thought they call it the Temple of Chaos. Or is that only in the remakes?

  • oh shut up....

  • I could have swore the fighter worked best without any weapons whatsover, that was the reason I used him at all when I played FF1 at least.

  • You're thinking of the black belt/master. After level 8 or so, I find that they're fists are much more effective than using weapons.

  • i had a final fantasy 3 rom and im not sure if it was buged or the game but i died the first people i fought. i quit on the spot and vowed i would never play again.

  • Lol the first 3 games are so hard.

  • not really i own ff1 for nes and ff2 on the snes i just recently got them and showed them off on my channle im flying right through ff2
