The follow through of the racket is creating this topspin on the ball. Regardless of his racket face he still gets the necessary topspin. I don't understand how people cant see that topspin is being generated...
no no no no no wrist movement is only used in the sport of racquetball tennis strokes use you body. and the racquet is neither closed nor open - open hits towards the sky closed towards the ground- to provide topspin your follow though in a upwards motion aka low to high point of impact low racquet ends up at shoulder
Very poor backhand! No fluidity in the stroke - very stiff & mechanical. Professional players allow their elbows to bend on the take-back so that they gain proper momentum with a downward loop swing. This has been noted on Youtube clips of pro players. The hitter in the video is hitting flat - no topspin! The giveaway here is the racquet face angle at contact ~ it's open! For topspin the racquet face should be vertical/closed brushing up the back of the ball.
You're absolutely correct! All he's doing doing is pushing the ball up against a wall - not really effective for playing over a net! Any harder and it will sail out .. makes you wonder how he copes in a real match!?
This is a FLAT backhand - the racquet face is open on contact and opens more on follow through because the ball is being hit up against a wall. There is no topspin production therefore, this cannot be used as a driving shot in professional tennis - the ball will fly out! For topspin the grip has to be chosen to give a VERTICAL or slightly closed racquet face at ball contact and the racquet has to brush upwards - this video isn't accomplishing this. Totally amateur flat shot!
Look at your racquet face and pause at 0:46 All your shots are like this - the racquet face is open and is hitting the ball FLAT. The racquet opens even more on follow through proving that you have no concept of what topspin is. This ball is being struck flat and will not dip due to topspin. Send the video to any coach and they will tell you the same - NO topspin.
look at one of my favorite videos of roger fed's forehand, impact is square, then you roll over the shot giving it topspin. and I speak from experience, my backhand has topspin on it so explain that. I understand what you're saying, but i'm saying you impact square--flat, then you follow through up and through imparting spin and maximizing the power of the shot. send that to your coach and see if he can explain it to you better because YOU"RE NOT LISTENING TO ME
cus ull get more, and and then ull find more consistency, i learned myself if i dont turn my soulder on every backhand, then i cant hit it deep enough on my rally ball, so all in all, more shoulder = more raquet head speed = more everything (topspin, power)
No coach teaches 'snapping the wrist' to produce topspin! No professional player uses wrist to play topspin! The motion is in the arm swing brushing up the back of the ball. Watch Youtube clips of Justine Henin, Federer, Gasquet .. none use their wrist!
homes... it's all about the follow through, I make impact perpendicular to the ground then brush up and then, voila...it's topspin... how else do you get that sound? if you don't hit it square on impact.... but i'm glad you could teach me so much about tennis. thank you...
You're a complete idiot when it comes to understanding the basic concept of topspin. Your racquet keeps on angling backwards on the follow through - just look at it! This does not produce topspin - it's a flat impact, no brush up. The pro videos on Youtube show that the elbow is bent during the preparation for a proper downswing that gives a brush up on the ball at contact. Your arm is rigid, stiff and mechanical - hence, total rubbish!
Topspin is played with a vertical racquet face to closed - yours opens. Get the difference! You're hitting flat up onto a wall - just look at your racquet face opening on follow through - it's angled BACKWARDS! Are you really so thick?
isn't a vertical racquet face--open? AS I SAID earlier, yes yes, it looks flat, but on the court, when I play, it has topspin. watch my video where I play. there's topspin on my ball. impact is square, the follow through dictates the spin. yes, against the wall here, it looks flat, because of the angle, the range from the wall, but on a tennis court in reality, it's a topspin shot. look at the video of my playing. I know what happens when I play--that's what I have been saying prior also.
Snap is kind of a misnomer. McEnroe describes it as "flick." I say it's more like a pronation of the wrist, though it is more pronounce in the backhand than in the forehand.
Federer always uses wrist movement to cheat the spin whether FH or BH. Thats a technique that not many other top players can do. Due to this sometimes he balloons the ball, his wrist is very strong.
No wrist! You talk crap! Any slow motion video here on Youtube of Federer playing backhand or forehand shows no deliberate use of wrist before contact. You know nothing about tennis.
Second, use more your upper body and hips. You have to show all your back to your target. Of course, for a quick swing, your swing is correct, but if you have time, try that: Pretend to have a message writen on your back and show it to your opponent.
If Federer wasn't enough solid on his legs, he'd knocks himself back because of the rotation.
I know your against a wall, but do perfect motions as much as you can make it so when you give demos.
very cool, My problem is not keeping my eye on the ball and My coach has never told me to never bend my arm on backhands, this is cool. I'll try this out.
i don't use my wrist in this stroke at all, never had a wrist problem, but what I do is I squeeze my hand on impact--specifically the thumb and first two fingers--thus my wrist can't move. therefore, no wrist problems. why?
i need a loose wrist because? why? do you want to snap it? add more flat? add more topspin? please explain--my theory is you want a firm wrist to transfer weight and prevent wrist injury
thats an awful one hander, the foot is pointing at a 90 degree angle, it should be at a 45 degree angle, second your chest should be perpendicular throughout the shot of the board you are hitting... it is not
ugliest single backhand ever....

i've been watching myself and friends, we push through the ball with the hand--not really a wrist thing, but a hand movement

Hi I am newbie but your backhands looked like flat shots without topspin .
powerslavenegi 2 years ago 6
kind of flat but it has a tail end of topspin. good look though--I prefer just to hit it flat, it's easier...
hi10spro 2 years ago
personally i think it looks pretty retarded, your arms seem quite stiff, theres no spin on the ball.
you shouldnt really be teaching this shot because its the wrong way to play tennis.
thats just my opinion

Professional players do not 'snap' anything to put spin on the ball! The wrist stays firm - good coaches will teach you that.
