caliente, with a 'C' not a 'G.' caliente, hot. mas ritmo caliente. more hot rhythm. well, i don't know. it's kind of hard to groove on this after listening to Israel 'Cachao' Lopez jam sessions before trying Cal out again. He's got many Cuban musicians with him, but there just seems to be something that's a little off. Oh yeah, it's the producer in the control room saying keep it even and not too hard, we don't want to alienate any of those swingers who will buy the product. Cachao Lopez, RIP.
@billyjoedopesmoker there's no comparison man,cut cal a break,he was born in st. louis missouri from sweedish parents.,there's only latin music after and before cachao, but cal holds a special place in latin jazz history.
@jesamani75 i wasn't criticising Mr. Tjader. as clearly stated, the culprit behind the limp beat is the producer in the control room, who had to answer to the executives in the offices of the music company that had Mr. Tjader under contract. most musicians in 1957 usa had little control over what their music would actually sound like when it finally reached the public. Mr. MIngus started his own label in 1960 for that reason. 1961, Impulse Records gave Mr. Coltrane artistic control so he signed.
Well so far, I learned that he is often linked to the development of Latin Rock and Acid Jazz. and he worked with Dave Brubeck, and he won a Grammy in 1980 for his album called "La Onda Va Bien" - During his time with Verve Records (Buddy Rich was with them), he worked with Donald Byrd, Lalo Schifrin, Anita O'Day, Willie Bobo, Armando Peraza, a young Chick Corea, Clare Fischer, Jimmy Heath, Kenny Burrell, and others - He got more albums than God (this can take my whole life to go thru all that)
el trio dinamico que impulsó el Afro-Cuban-Jazz,Mongo Santamaria,Willie Bobo y Almando Peraza, desde luego despues de Chano Pozo y Dizzie Gallespie..
