  • Does anyone know if Hornady has offered these bullets separately for those of us who prefer to handload our ammo?

Sure would like to try out a box of .40 calibers to shoot through my 10mm auto.

  • he called the other a "dick" after he asked him if it was a .380 :(

  • This ammo is great, opens up EVERY time in my tests and others.

I still prefer carrying WWB ammo since you can practice with what you carry at an inexpensive price.

  • @Migs4000

please dont say EVERY time nothing...nothing is 100% ever even fmj rounds can shed their jacket through flesh or deform when hitting bone giving occasional poor penetration is the cd round very consistent yes absolutely yes its the most dependable ive seen but unless some people on yt are rigging vids it can experience quality control even from an outstanding company like hornady

  • @tubevideoguy762

They opened up every time in MY tests.

I've seen them fail before when passing through bone and have even shed their jacket.

  • @Migs4000 ahh got it although many would just read opens everytime and assume it cannot ever fail which they can and have sometimes they can fragment but not often and when i made knox ballistics gel block all the 115 9mm expanded perfect penetrating 16 inches from a g17 that patented flex tip is wonderful cannot wait for critical duty to hit shelves in a few months

  • That guy didnt even attack...he was probably gonna ask for directions.

  • @MuhsinTheMomin he didnt have time to ask

  • LOL, true! They miss the point of the commercial. Buy some of the rounds and try them out, please use some artificial media. I wont be held responsible for morons shooting innocent people or animals! Just had to say that, some idiot probably has or will!

  • I like how everyone defends the stupid commercial on here.

He was obviously putting his kids to bed and he heard a noise so he reaches into his KID'S drawer thing and pulls out a bigass gun.

Then he gets us in his sights and takes aim like a super cool dad.

  • @mdc0rqj

"bigass gun" so in what decade did a 38 become "bigass" if kids know enough to leave guns alone until they're experienced there's no safety issue

  • @tubevideoguy762 good point, thats why I keep my hand grenades in my child's toy box. He know better and kids are always responsible and live without error.

  • Comment removed

  • The way I saw the video the revolver was NOT stored in the child's dresser drawer or side stand. I determined this due to the color of the drawer being pulled. However it does give the impression that the handgun was in an unlocked drawer. It is unlikely the gun was truly in an unlocked drawer, Hornady would not support that. Great job on the development of the Critical Defense line. I plan to try out the .38+P in my .357mag.

  • Mankiller,:))

  • My father-in-law recommended I try these in my glock 23 which I use at home and for carry and I picked up a couple of boxes the other day. A couple dollars cheaper than the winchester supreme elite 165g rounds with much better accuracy even as a new shooter. I can tell the difference and plan on stocking up on these rounds. So far out of 40 rounds all hit center, no "flyers" like the UMC 180g practice rounds. Now if they would start offering these in a lager box quantity!

  • @Primal67060 Cheaper than dirt offers them in 25 round boxes but I hear you on that.

  • thiers an actuall video onn youtube that show the bullet from this company, but i forgot the caliber...did not expand and the rubber peace itself acted as the clog for the FMJ responce.

  • Another reason Hornady is better than all the other large ammunition companys.

  • "Hey miss, you dropped something" BAM!!!!!!!!!!!! Women should just stay in the kitchen

  • Smokers are dangerous....

  • LOL this is the reality Onion video.

  • I just laugh at the intro video, it was amusing; I'm sure she unloaded the entire mag into his chest if that was reality though.

  • Metro Arms American Classic II M1911 45 ACP . $420 from the Philipines and my gun LOVES this 185 JHP!

  • I have a 5" M1911 with this ammo in HCD 185Gr JHP.

Can anyone tell me what kind of ballistics(FPS?) I can expect with this round? Thanks

  • o no an intruder, ill go into my 5 year olds room and get my gun

  • I also keep a loaded revolver in a desk located in my child's bedroom.

  • Gotta love that opening scene!

  • Danny I have just gotten a box of Hornady critical defense ammo after a long wait. After viewing most of the ammunition testing videos I have decided on Hornady critical defense as my personal carry round. To be effective the round must do what it has been designed to do,that is expand and cause shock to the body, neutralizing the bad guy

  • Anyone used these in .40 caliber S&W from a Glock 27 I'm considering that from my edc gun. That or a snub nose .357 magnum with this ammo.

  • Check out Cor-Bon Pow-R-Ball, it was out years before Critical Defense that was "designed from the ground up." Same deal, rubber tip in the hollow point to prevent clogging and feeding issues in semi-autos.

  • Goog thing the lone home invader broke in nice and loud and didn't wait untill the family went to bed.

  • THE AMMO LOOKS LIKE THE IDEAL PERSONAL DEFENSE AMMO.I LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR THIS AMMO AND I STILL CANNOT FIND IT.IT WILL PENETRATE,AND EXPAND,CAUSING MAXIMUM SHOCK TRAUMA TO THE BODY,THUS NEUTRALIZING THE BAD GUY.NOW GET IT OUT TO THE CUSTOMERS.

  • @dannyfivefifty - learn not to type in all upper case. YOU ARE YELLING AT US!

  • @dannyfivefifty

    basspro.com

    /Hornady-Critical-Defense-Handgun-Ammo/product/10220747/-1699283

  • haha critical defense is a better hunting round than anything... and it sucks for personal protection

  • i did a test on these things and they are great! they now make them in .45 auto. the vid of the test is on my channel. i would trust my life to these without a doubt

  • Outstanding freakin' ammo, you understand that?

  • The gun was not in the kids room. If you look at the video you will see the girl had a white night stand and not a wood oak one. Its just the way the video was cut. But regardless a weapon should always be locked. I find gunvault or similar products keep your LOADED weapon safe and ready for defense.

  • Hornady is no joke, form their TAP 00' buck with the tighest pattern on record, to the TAP JHP their designs are correct from the drawing board. Real pros desingning over there... HIRE ME!

  • I keep Hornady TAP in my Glock and Hornady LeverEvolution in my .357 Model 19. I love Hornady rifle rounds too.

  • If your shooting small calibers aim for the head and face. No problem with cloths, stops BGs quick. At short ranges it is not that hard o hit the head. Of course nerves make everything hard in a life and death situation.

  • HEY THE AMMO LOOKS LIKE IT CAN PERFORM DESPITE ITS SIZE. NOW GET IT OUT AND INTO THE STORES.TRY AS I MIGHT I CANNOT FINE A GUN SHOP OR WHOLE SAILER THAT HAS HORNADY CRITICAL DEFENSE AMMO IN STOCK

  • @dannyfivefifty try cabelas

  • @dannyfivefifty Try Academy Sports & Outdoors, I can always find it there in most calibers, except for .380, can't find any of that anywhere.

  • I'm sure it's great ammo. Love to find some but everyone I check with has the .380 on back order.

  • I carry a G30 when I can and an Lcp when a small gun us needed.

  • There are other very good brands of ammo out there, but Hornady rules. That's all I use when I carry.

  • In all seriousness I work overnights at a gas station and in the past year I was robbed twice. It was scary as shit and since then I've got my concealed carry license. I bought a Ruger LCP .380 and carry it nightly now loaded with the critical defense ammo. I pray I never have to use it but if I do.....I trust my life to it.

  • LOL 380 ahahaha you may want to get a 9mm or 45ACP 380 is very very under powered

  • @TMHonfire102 obviously there is a trade off when you use a .380 vs a .45 kinda hard to conceal a full sized colt compared to a LCP... do you you even carry?

  • @boravw1 I CCW everyday, I dis like .380 due to it week power, even 9mm i fill is a bit low powered, but with the right load the 9mm can be a good round.

See my video call 5.7x28mm vs 45.

    45ACP is a monster that why i CCW a .45

  • @TMHonfire102 I hear ya man, but if you are not sufficed with 9mm (im not either) maybe a S&W 357mag revolver airweight would be ideal, big block glocks just are too big for concealment for me (pant problems with IWB holster) that LCP just slips right in my pocket no prob

  • @boravw1

Have you checked out the Kahr Arms PM45? It's a pocket pistol that can fire .45 ACP.

  • @jdrock0 wow robbed twice? were exactly is this gas station? detroit? l.a.? it must be somewhere very dangerous. i also like the critical defense ammo. i never go anywhere without my keltec pf-9 and critical defense 9mm.

  • @jdrock0 do you still have that .380.. maybe you should up to a 9 like LC9

  • why would you store you pistol with out a locked case in your young child's room

  • @sirjacobthe8 I looked at it carefully. If you notice, the childrens room has a white drawer set. But he took it out of a wood colored drawer. I think that he may have gone to another room to get the gun. But its been edited to look so quick, that it seemed as though he was still in the childrens room.

  • Why would you keep a gun in your childs room lol

  • Is it sealed with laquer like good ammunition?

  • my experience with hornady tap, and hornady xtp custom, has consistant exspansion, smooth feeding and like i said consistancy, i tend to always lean towards bonded ammo if it is the gold dot, pdx1, or the ranger bonded series, andcritical defense looks like another winner from hornady

  • if its made for shorter barrels wonder how it do in a longer barrel

  • Hornady should develop a 410 self defense round specifically for the Taurus Judge just as Federal and WIN have. I hope they plan to do so.

  • i've been shot in the back with a ricochet from a 9mm FMJ it went though my left side and stuck into my friends truck bed, the bullet had little deformaty, but i dont think i would have stuff left if it was a JHP

  • meh.......sounds good but all the top ammo manufacturers say their JHP design is better than everyone elses. Can't really go wrong with Winchester/Federal/CCI/Remington/etc and I doubt anyone shot with either could tell the difference.

  • Question: what makes it not penetrate it as much? Different gun powder or just not a +p/lighter grain weights? I read a few articles and met a few people who say 9mm and below doesn't penetrate the boddy like it does gel because of bone density.

  • dif reasons such as speed and bullet weight but a 9mm will penatrate deeper than a 45 so a nine is plent so is a 380 but it realy whatever u want

  • i think the ftx will fire out of most pistols short barreled or not. 45s got the meaner knockdown power, 9s get better capacity even in sub compact, but i heard a 380 in the pocket is better than a 45 in the truck

  • I load FMJ.

  • I have my glock 17 loaded with 17 rounds of this ammunition on my nightstand.

  • I think this ammo from hornaday and the corbon dpx 115 grain +p jhp are the two best 9mm self defense rounds made. The hornaday is a little cheaper than the corbon but they are both worth the high price tag.

  • Who keeps a revolver in their little kids room in an unlocked drawer?

  • I was thinking the same damn thing!

  • @Redneckbakkie

lol its the little girls :P

  • @Redneckbakkie

Maybe someone who's kids are intelligent about firearms and know how to use them. My children were shooting handguns from a very young age and fully understood how dangerous they are. However I agree that for most households that would not be a good or a safe idea.

  • @Redneckbakkie the Mommy who isn't fuking around when she says GO TO BED! hahahaha

  • @Redneckbakkie Chuck Norris

  • @Redneckbakkie i know, tats exactly what i thought

  • @Redneckbakkie I know, right?!

  • @Redneckbakkie The scenario is one in that the father is gathering his family to the parents bedroom to be safely away from the home invasion perp. That's what I got out of it. In a home defense situation it's generally recommended to keep everyone together in one room safely away from the threat. Bad guy keeps coming and gets lead poisoning.

  • @Redneckbakkie lol, great point.

  • @Redneckbakkie hahaha i was like... what?

  • WOW ! SO much hostility in these comments !! OK Flabberdingle & 12 Guage time for a shootout ! One of you wears heavy denim and the other hides behind some glass..Let me know how it works out .. Can't we all get along? My snub nose .50 cal Browning pocket pistol would do the job ! ;-)

  • @rasdebol Some people are just trolls and have no life other than typing four letter words. Anyone who does that automatically discredits anything they say. They already solved that penetration problem with the .357 sig. This is a .380 designed for conceal carry. I doubt anyone would be shooting it into a windshield due to the fact most shoot outs are no more than 7 yrds. If a perp hops in a car to get away at least you know you have detoured them from hurting anyone.

  • This bullet will not go through glass or steel, it is specifically designed to have 100% reliable expansion when it hits a clothed target. Hornady didn't even attempt to put them through the FBI trials. Just FYI.

  • Many pistol rounds are inadequate after passing through a windshield/car door etc. One of my friends was shot in the neck through his windshield and that's the only reason he's alive. Not to mention the countless police shootings where they pepper the vehicle and the perp is barely injured. But I'm sure you've tested this particular round by shooting it into ballistics gel through a windshield right? LOOK UP THE COMPANY SPECS YOU FUCKIN PUNK, IDIOTS LIKE YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE GUNS.

  • Hey, cocksmoker, it's a +P round, fuck your friend and your made up story. It penetrates and deforms, stupid cunt, you ask to look up the specs, when you don't have them? Hmmm... what a queer. "My friend.." ha ha.

  • lol it's not my fault you don't want to educate yourself, you're pretty pathetic for someone who calls themself a "firearms enthusiast". That's perfectly fine dude, you can go on thinking and bet your life on the false assumption that any bullet will go through anything reliably without even researching or testing it or even simply looking at the company specs lol you don't know anything about this round. Conversation over, there's no reason to argue with someone who refuses to educate themself

  • Moron below me: thinks auto glass is bulletproof, IF it's a hollowpoint. I actually shot auto glass with frangible rounds, still penetrates "my friend" ha ha.

  • Impressive vid. I have some for my Bersa Thunder.

  • If it is the summer time and if a perp attacks, would a +p 124 grain 9mm be better in another brand? They only make 9mm in 115 grain and not +p

  • I was at a gunshow today and some asshole was selling these 50 bux a box..AND PEOPLE WERE BUYING THEM! lol

  • Just curious, but which caliber?

38, 9mm or 380? IT had to be the 380's if they were 50 bucks a box.

  • .380..But still shouldnt be that much

  • This bullet failed to expand after 4 layers of denim.

  • Those who had problems with this ammo: Its a problem with your gun not the ammo. My Ruger LCP eats em up. Great ammo, great expansion, and 10+ inches of penetration is plenty dont kid yourself.

  • Ok, I am confused. Why are people saying it can pentrate like a full metal jacket?

  • it can penatrate through demim without getting clogged like some other JHP's.

  • It doesn't penetrate like FMJ, it wont go through glass, it is specifically designed to have 100% reliable expansion for a clothed target. It is made for concealed carry use.

  • Thanks for the reply. I did learn this not too long after I made that post and it is what I use for my glock :D

  • uradouchebagladdy thank you

i love your comment and agre

    thank you

  • That's what she said.

  • @allusernamestaken12 thats wen they call me

  • This ammo sucks! 14 out of 25 fail to fires on my LCP which shot 100 rounds of blazer brass with no problem.

  • was it misfires?? a primer problem??

  • Primer problem. The fireing pin hit almost dead center and did not fire. I did dig one of the hollow points out of the ground and it expanded nicely.

  • that not good,

  • so this bullet is designed to penetrate like FMJ, but expand like a hollow point, very innovative. over the years i have heard stories of hollow points clogging with clothing.

  • Just picked up some for my S&W M&P 9c, paid 23 bucks for a box of 25.

  • how do they perform?

  • I have not fired them at the range yet.

  • well when you do, let me know if you can.

  • Just ask anyone shot by it, they can't say how it performed cause they're dead!

Believe me, this bullet will "get the job done".

  • I got a 25 box for $19 through sportsmansguide. I must say these bullets are to pretty to shoot.

  • I wonder if any of these self defense commercials will ever feature a non-white guy as the perp.

    PC in action.

PS - this 380 is under-loaded, very weak.

  • This stuff is hard as hell to find, especially 380. Might want to check out "Gunbroker", it's a gun & ammo auction site, they've got everything.

  • Depending on what part of the country you're in, I found plenty of it at several locations of "Academy Sports & Outdoors".....Mostly in Texas, LA.....

  • ive seen some listed in the natchez catalog but is not always available. im hopeing to get my hands on some soon but i am unable to find any in .40s&w

  • Got some for use in my Kahr CW9 9mm.

I'm hoping they eventually offer these in 40 S&W and 45 ACP...If they do, I'm all over it.....

  • they do, i use it in my sprinfield sub compact .40. its sweet. but expensive. 20 for 30 bucks but its worth it

  • Really? I didn't get the word...Thanks for the info, man...I'll have to be on the lookout for some- I'd love to locate some for my Glock 36 .45 ACP......

  • the only thing is that it doesn't have that red thing in the center like any other hornady rounds. my 2 3/4 shotgun rounds have it but my .40 sw doesn't. so check it out first cause the question is, is it consistant when it hits the target. will it clog or muchroom everytime. thanks!

  • "I need to get me some !'

An EDUCATED shooter is a better shooter. Thank you for the Video extremely educational. Great Job ! posting this video.

  • I finally tryed the 380 round in these. I thought my PPK wasn't that good for CCW, but these rounds really improved it's effectiveness

  • Excellent thinking.

  • Powrballs expand larger, fly faster and hit harder.

  • a guy i met introduced me to these last week, and now after researching, hornady cd seems to be the most reliable when it comes to self defense rounds.

  • The CorBon Powerball expands faster and doesn't penetrate as well as the Hornady. If you are gonna carry something small these rounds are the best.

  • good video were tired of being a victim no more!we shouldn't have to worry if the round in are guns will take down these cold hearted killers!

  • Interesting.. Puts in the mind of Federal's EFMJ and CorBon's PowrBall.
