Hank Spann inspired me. He was the single greatest influence for me with respect music enjoyment on the radio. He was something everyone I ever met tried to imitate in NY in the early '70s. He will be sorely missed...
Hank was the best, and yes all rap/hip-hop owes him a debt of gratitude. He was a great MC and he had such a distinguished voice. This was AM radio at it's finest. He used so many raps to intro a song that we naturally listened to the song. Now-a-days there is no one like him,too much opinions & self promo not about the music. RIP,Hank we miss you.
I absolutely loved this!! Hank Spann was one of those execs that I looked up to... I had achance to work with him on a number of levels, mainly while I was Sales Director at Lee Bailey's RadioScope... I have contemplated his passing in a deep way... RIP Mr. Spann!!
Thank you so much for posting this. I reference Hank Spann on a few of my own posts and simply decided to enter his name into the search engine and found this post. Wonderful, wonderful tribute that I've added to my FAVORITES folder.
what memories! I so enjoyed working with Hank, Ray, Earl and the team. Unstoppable! Ever the gentleman, Hank was a real treat! Now he and Gracie are back together. Thanks for sharing the pictures and his days at WWRL

Hank "Have Mercy Now" Spann was the man, no doubt. He was gracious enough to DJ at our block party in Long Branch, NJ back in the day.
