The simple sling might also be a great weapon to incorperate into the kung fu arsenal as it is super powerful for its size and is a great challenge to shoot well. check out the youtube film "Ancient Sling Weapon".
I just bought a meteor hammer yesterday, but the weight seems to be a bit smaller than the one shown here. Still, can't wait until I finally give it a whirl! :D
I think you can do damage with any weapon. The rope dart and meteor you guys are arguing a out can be explained simply...like a penis, size does not matter, it's how u use it. ;p some yoda knowledge for ur asses lol
You don't block with a chain weapon; you redirect it or you dodge.
Plain and simple.
Also, what this guy does is really amazing ' cause chain weapons have a high hit rate. E.g. it will hit you just as much as it hits your opponent. The hard part is getting it to hit you softly and hitting your opponent not so softly.
The rope dart just seems like a crappy weapon. To do any serious damage with it, you would have to hit with the point. I don't think you can actually put enough force into it to do the kind of damage.
You can see at about :22 how little force there actually is behind the attack, when you attempt to throw it point first. Unless you hit somebody in the eye with it, you wouldn't be able to do any serious damage using the weapon that way.
Get a friend to take an eight ounce bean bag and throw it into you at full force. It won't hurt you, but you'll notice.
Now imagine that bean bag is a piece of metal, pointed to direct its entire energy into a space roughly an eight of an inch, and moving faster than your friend threw the bean bag.
You are now slightly closer to envisioning what it's like to be hit with a rope dart- if it hits bone, it breaks it. It's not really a piercing weapon.
The rope dart might break a hand(if it was a very lucky hit) or a nose, but it's not doing any serious bone breaking. The problem is that in comparison to the meteor hammer, (or even a similarly size but rounded object) the rope dart spreads the force of impact out much more the a rounded object, which would concentrate it.
The rope dart might break a hand(if it was a very lucky hit) or a nose, but it's not doing any serious bone breaking. @abattoirflux I will side with the meteor hammer. The rope dart isn't as heavy as the hammer, and I imagine flinging it straight forward won't make much of an impact. Swinging it is also out of the question, as the dart doesn't have much mass and can't do blunt damage.
The hammer, however, is pretty much a rock on a chain. Having a rock thrown at you isn't fun. You can also swing it like a flail, and slam it from above, like a "'meteor", which will easily do some serious damage.
@YellowJacketNinja375 And if you're good enough you can also disarm a person or tie up a limb and do a take down. Definitely would take a meteor hammer over a rope dart.
@Mephistolomaniac Yes! i agree my freind was so excited to show me how awesome his rope dart is he kindof put a huge freaking hole in his door in his basement!!!!!!!! lol
@homemadePAUL I imagine the idea is rather than block to use the unpredictability of the rope dart's attacks to keep the opponent off balance or confused, or simply keeping a distance. Hard to close the gap with face full of rope dart. Barring that, tripping would work.
@satrsmndri good luck. lol. its one thing watching it like that, but when its coming at you, the last thing you should be thinking about is catching it. i would be thinking get the hell out of the way.
@satrsmndri if you can catch the wires from a taser gun before the rods pierce and deliver the electricity, then you can catch the dart, but if they can't, oh well.

@Evi1M4chine No reason to! Spikes like that would just be for show, would make it to easy to catch on the ground or anything else near by. These are devastating weapons as they are.
Gogo the teenage assassin/bodyguard in Kill Bill and Jackie Chan in Shanghai Noon just to name a few places i have seen it done. it would be insanely difficult to beat someone capable of using this weapon.
"...practice new moves with a practice rope dart..."

@Compooky121 surprisingly, even tho it looks dull, itll break skin and bone with absolute ease. just one of these strikes could severely hurt or even kill u
@omg0what0happened lol, I saw that. Awesome choreography. But, I was looking for a real match with the weapon. All the videos are just showy and flashy. The real thing just seems too avoidable or easily dealt with. That's alot of needless movement. Aiki.
@omg0what0happened Well, you can still spar with a weighted dart or meteor. Rubber, or any training device. Just nothing to find expect choreography.
Again, I like the looks, just not sure about the actual function. As kids, we played with these things in class, and you could always entangle it around something solid. But we were goofing off.

Okay, lets give them some credit. Can you imagine how difficult and dangerous it is to master these flail-like weapons? I wonder if they replace the ends with softer materials for practice before they attempt the real thing?
Ok, now I am curious, what would be this next "most lethal chinese weapon of ancient times" he would talk about in the vid that "not just smash heads, but remove them"? Is it really something as obvious as a sword? xD
As maddkid said, it's the flying guillotine. It's a weapon that is not proved to have existed but is rumored to have been responsible for a lot of assassinations. They tried to recreate a flying guillotine, but with little success. They determined that to use it effectively, one had to be TRAINED HARDCORE.
A knife through what? It's easier to cut butter with hot knife than it is to cut clay. I would've said bricks, but that would've been unfair to the butter.
They aren't TESTING it against clay pots, they are PRACTICING. against clay pots. Jesus christ you're such a dumbass.
"No matter how big fan you are of the MH it is not good weapon for combat against ready prepared armed enemy at direct attack."
Thats what I fucking said, you idiot. I'm not TELLING you its an effecient weapon, it ISN'T, I'm telling you its good vs armor, you fucking insecure idiot.
Come back when you can fucking speak the language, and READ it.

A knife through what? It's easier to cut butter with hot knife than it is to cut clay. I would've said bricks, but that would've been unfair to the butter.

I thought that the dart would be sharper than that.

I remember when Jackie Chan attached a horseshoe to a rope in Shanghai Noon. It looked a lot like these weapons. He was awesome.

they need a movie with a hero who wields the rope dart.

he's not even throwing it hard enough for it to pierce a baby's skin.

Haha it looks like it but you have no idea how much force it has when it's thrown...
VietRaikou 2 years ago 3
why do you want to pierce baby skin?

Maybe you're actually aiming for bludgeoning and internal bleeding?
Since the dart itself is not actually sharp.

it will cut

the MH looks like fun but the dart could be poisoned so it can be deadlier

WOw, dude are you even LISTENING to me?
I said any bronze armor can easily be crushed, including the skull inside the helmet
Any Steel heavy armor including Gothic Armor, can cause Knockouts, or heavy brain damage.
They have already tested it.
And why the HELL and HOW would ANYONE test ANYTHING YOU suggest out of the blue?
Think about that for a sec you biased dimwit.

Come back when you can fucking speak the language, and READ it.
because quite honestly, you're a bloody idiot. You're not even paying attention to anythign I'm saying. You just take it as a contridiction to your arguement. Thats how fucking stupid you are.
That and you think you're RIGHT about everything? wtf 1kg? Ninjas using Crossbows? Are you fucking retarded? And OBVIOUSLY telling everyone "A LONG RANGE WEAPON HAS MORE RANGE THAN A MELEE WEAPON" ARE YOU SURE!? Jesus. Stupid.

And I have ALREADY said again,
The MH is PROBABLY not exactly useful in a fight with more than 2 people, because it gets caught on everything.
And its MAIN purpose was for distraction and catching limbs/tripping or grasping weapons out of hands in a heavy combat situation.
READ ...christ.
