It sounds like somthing is knocking when you start it... I hope it's just the exhaust on the chassis or somthing, or maybe the camera because if that's a big end then you might be finding out how those engines are assembled....
I have removed my big rubber bumpers on my 80'.I think the car weights about 100 pounds less now.Still haven't found a front bumper to put on.The hunt continues!
Yah, I think it was in '78 there were new bumper laws that went into effect. Car manufactures were not ready for this to happen (design wise) so they just tacked on massive batting rams to comply with the laws. It was the final demise of the Triumphs and MG's here in the states. 1980 was the Spitfires last year over here, though many dealers still had some left overs well into 1981. What is the last year in England for them?

Here in the states they had massive rubber bumpers. Sounds like you need a new camera!
