Im studying animation (digital) but as much as I love it I hate a very soft feeling for old techniques like stop motion and traditional hand drawn animation.
Its a bit of a shame that digital animation has taken over because there is something about old techniques that has a unique charm digital images cannot achieve as realistic as they are their still not as believable IMO.
For example, I hate it when they mix real life footage with digital cartoon characters, like the Garfield/Smurfs movies
My childhood would not have been the same, my life would not have been the same without pixar studios. Thanks guys for making millions of lives that much better by your fantastic artistic abilities and pushing the boundaries for better movies to make children's lives better and more enriched.
well read the books out there about Pixar....Jobs wanted to sell pixar stocks and rupture the co. to regain his initial investment in the 90's. Once Toystory showed promise under Disney, he changed his mind. Fuck Apple.
@TrigFilms Not really you have to keep in mind that Jobs bleed money for at least 10 years losing at least 20 million before toy story was released and became such a huge success. Without his leadership and capital, Pixar probably would never have become what it is today. Besides, Lucas was really only after the edit stations.
@Alexlfm Exactly. I think by the time Pixar was even close (meaning, just TEN years away instead of 15-20) to making a feature film, Lucas had burned through a lot of cash. He basically provided the seed money for nearly all of the digital film technology we use today. He wanted new tools but they didn't come cheap and he was the only person investing into cinema R&D using his own money. Had he kept Pixar, it would have been imperative to turn out cash-in Star Wars and Indiana Jones sequels.
@FrankPerrotto Wanted to add - which he wound up having to do anyway! I don't care what anyone says, it wasn't just that the 'technology had caught up with Lucas's vision', it was that he needed a massive infusion of capital and a revival of both franchises in order to see the continued financial health of all Lucasfilm divisions... he also wanted to benefit a lot more from the technology he paid to create. As for Jobs, he took a $10 million gamble on Pixar and now Disney's largest shareholder.
@TrigFilms Did you not watch the film? Pixar was on a downturn and had little funds and poor outlook. If it was you would you continue to invest in a bankrupted business?

@TrigFilms so you think 10 million is a small amount of money? For what pixar is now, maybe but back then it was a lot for what is was worth.
