This was extremely well-researched and well-presented. This contains a lot of informaiton that other pieces on the subject don't and you always choose your sources well. Could you possibly do more, perhaps on the Moon in Wicca, Lunasa and Samhain? I would be interested in the ancient midwinter festivals in Scotland and Ireland.
Merlin the wizard heir to the kingdom of albion Albiones or located in northern Spain between Asturias and the Basque Country and Navarra, as the legends of Ireland and Scotland in the book of "invasions." Leabhar Ghabhála Érenn with magical power over the Tuatha Dé Danann gods still has upward in Albiol, Arbiol etc even in ancient books of magic come up with the name of ARBIEL as in "Lemegeton"

I made a video on how the modern tradition of Walpurgis-nacht came to be. In Scandinavia and Germany big fires are still lit on the evening leading to the first of may. I will be visiting a big public fire tonight. :)
I hope you don't mind that I attached the video I made. :)
True, Margaret Murray was wrong in some points, but she was right in some other points. This Pagan magic based religion she and Gardner were looking into obviously weren't called witches at the time, since the words "witch" and "witchcraft" were invented by the Catholic Church as something akin to the n-word, but I think she was right when she connected her theories to prehistoric goddess worship, considering those cave paintings they found that looked like the Wiccan Goddess and God.
XD No, they have any proof that prehistoric goddess worship was anything else like Wicca. They only found the paintings and the idols, maybe broken pieces of old brooms from the same time period, but nothing like wands, cauldrons, or athames. Then again, the cavemen were fascinated with the lunar eclipse, and we all know how important the moon is to Wicca.
A few years ago i realized my birthday May 5th fell exactly between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. I believe that a fire is lit for 5 consecutive nights starting May 1st through to the 5th.
Tucked away deep in the forest up in the Denbigh Moors of North Wales we celebrate this magical event.
I was pleasantly surprised by this, looking at your sources I hadnt expected something this well researched with the authors cited. Its interesting to hear the scottish pronunciation too. Bullaí mná!
James Fraser may tend to go wild on his conclusions, but his basic research is fine (for the time period). And you don't get much better than Ronald Hutton for pagan related historical facts.
If you're saying there is a much better source of Pagan info than Professor Ronald Hutton for Pagan related stuff they would be VERY well worth a look!
Yes- the druidic Celtic green! Someone mentioned that he loves these vids because he likes to learn about "our ancestors." Yeah, I can't agree more. Sometimes I think that I'm a hair's width removed from returning to the motherland and removing the "American" off my "Irish-American" classification. Celt power! :)
Thanks Marysia, informative as ever. I am lucky enough to live with driving distance of Butser Iron Age Farm (Petersfield, Hampshire) where they hold an annual Beltane event where a forty foot Wicker Man is set alight. A spectacular event, brings you close to how our celtic ancestors may have celebrated. Glad to say there are no scottish policemen, pigs or goats involved ; )
Excellent presentation. It's a joy to me that you are honest about what is known, and not known, about rites of our ancestors.
As I listened, I wondered if "scapegoating" might have its origins in more macabre rituals in the distant past. But of course we don't know.
Fear of fairies is also interesting. In modern times, fairies have had their fangs pulled in popular imagination. Now they're just tiny and cute and possibly mischievous.

how on earth can you associate cave paintings with Wicca? o.O are you saying cave men were Wiccan? lol
