i felt that it would've more epic if Cruise's character killed himself at the end, as mentioned in the code thus really showing the viewers that he had truly become one of them.
@BitzRitz1988 damn that would have been epic..have the same music playing with him putting a blade in his stomach..you had one of the best ideas ive ever read
Somehow, every time I rewatch this movie, Zimmer's score just becomes more and more powerful, especially in this scene. Such a brilliant movie. Easily Tom Cruise's best performance to date, tied along with Collateral :)
@Usman0611 It's too bad the inception of the original Last Samurai script was plagiarized by Tom Cruise's agency for profit. I mean whoever stole this brilliant but poor script writer's work should come out and admit their mistake like a true man. Some narcissistic people think if they have fame/big money/power they can do anything to the point that no one can stop them. Well, some people, in the near future, will prove those greedy insecure ones wrong.
@notdemocratic yes this is the only movie i ever watced that made me cry. am not even talking about a tear my eyes were red and the kleenix box was half empty. incredible film
@WhiteLioness100 .. beauty is a matter of perspective, much like everything else in the world. ..japanese history is frankly, too bloody to be admired, whats most amusing, is that even the gods have abandoned this country in this modern age.. after protecting it for ten's of thousands of year.. ~_*
@david000009 Yes, Katsumoto is based on a real-life Japanese samurai named Saigō Takamori, who rebelled against the Japanese government in 1876, and who died along with several hundred of his followers in a climactic battle where they were outnumbered 60-1 and died charging the Imperial Army. Not all of the samurai were part of the rebellion, but about 20,000 died in the war. That said, there are many differences between the movie and what really happened.
i listen to this song while doing my homework in the library, it soothes my mind, and takes me away from all the mess in my life, thank you hans zimmer for making my life a little easier.
I kinda wanted the emperor to take that dudes head off. lol, i mean, that sounds dark and morbid, but the man wouldn't shut up, and was a big antagonist throughout the film
"But I like to think, he may have at last found some small measure of peace that we all seek, and few of us ever find..." Goosebumps, one of the best ending dialogues i've ever seen. Epic movie, lots of respect.
this is an absolutely beautiful movie, the landscape, the people, the friendship between Nathan and the Samurais.....
the love between the two, those look into the eyes and the tensions, are absolutely romantic and mesmerizing, and are million times better than some sex scenes.
i love this movie. Its sad how things went. But this is the ONLY movie to make me cry. And the end with him coming back. I love it!!! ANd I love the sond they play.
''And so the days of the Samurai had ended. Nations, like men, it is sometimes said, have their own destiny. As for the American Captain, no one knows what became of him. Some say that he died of his wounds. Others, that he returned to his own country. But I like to think he may have at last found some small measure of peace, that we all seek, and few of us ever find.''
I agree with you ClassyGuitarist its a fantastic ending and also romantic i think :) its one of my favorite film endings along with Shawshank Redemption when they meet on the beach.
Its all about the score really, Hans Zimmer i think but its good acting as well of course but without such a score it wouldn't be much.
@barbican08 couldn't of put it better myself i think this the shawshank redemption and vanilla sky are three of the best endings to a film ive ever seen and no small part to there scores and songs
But i like to think he may have atleast found some small measure of peace wich we all seek and few of use ever find.
I hope to find that small measure of peace some day, i really hope soo. As for this movie one of my favourites great story great acting unbelievable music wich perfectly perfectly matches the film. it just seems to give you a feeling that i cannot describe. just great!
I know what you mean, i have the soundtrack and i can't listen to it enough because it takes me back to the film. it's the kind of film you want there somehow to be more of, to be transported back into it, but all you can do is rewatch, so that's what i do do :) The music brings tears to my eyes at more than one point in the film. I just want to be him, in that time, living in the village amongst samurai, learning from them. and the way it ends is achingly beautiful, one of my favourite films...
I see what both of you mean. Its true that many search for at least a small measurement and very few of us ever find without dying to look for it. i, for one, am in luv with this movie because it meant something that all of us seem to never understand. Peace is meant to the very person that has fought for it to the best of his or her ability to find it. And, i don't mean fight in a war and die. I mean fight in life, seeking what your looking for in your definition of peace.
And, i know all of us can find it. This movie brings tears to my eyes every time i watch it because it shows what these people would push beyond their limits to show them that they are proud of their lifestyle and it hurts to see people die because they disagree. And the end, it shows that if you try enough, you'll find the exact meaning of peace in front of you. GOD, how i luv this movie. makes me cry.
Yeah, he has been through so much and was haunted so that he had to drink and was going down a road of self destruction. But then he finds something (by accident) that he loves and it gave him a new perspective of life and how he thought of people (whereas before: "for $500 a month i'll kill whoever you want") and he almost dies helping them in an impossible fight to the death. He found something he believes in and cherished and is completely set free by it. He finds the life he wants...
I know. He has been through so much and is haunted so much that he has to drink and is on a downward spiral of appathetic self-destruction. But then he finds something which he loves (accidentally) and it gives him a new perspective of life and people (whereas before: "for $500 a month i'll kill whoever you want") He finds something he believes in and loves so much that he almost dies fighting an impossible battle alongside them. He finds peace in the end and can live in his own way... so nice
Soooo... Tom Cruise is pretty small.
Where the hell did they get a horse that looks normal next to him?

Need to study up a bit do we XD
It's complex, they took some real characters and conflicts and fashioned a movie out of it.
Definitely a nice ending here, the samurai may be gone but never forgotten, you still see so much influence of them on so much.
