Hello I´ve been looking around for some kind of acoustic pickup and there L.R. Baggs came up before my eyes on thomann.de; how do they work if i but some effects on, like gain, overdrive etc.
Thanks for any type of answer and great playing there mate! :)
@nicospahni I own one and yeah, it does pick them up pretty loud, but they are far from sounding as crisp as w/ an internal mic (they even sound a bit boxy).
Obviously an M1A- it has the volume control. The question is, What is it run through and how. I have been seriously considering the M1, but I want a clean, natural acoustic sound. After all, it's why I choose to play an acoustic. So, does this active sound better than the passive? What is it run through? Pretty vague on the details.
@tejasbullet if you want a clean, natural acoustic sound, you should look forward good condenser microphones first. Except you want to perform live, condenser mic are best to record acoustic. I personnaly use both a condenser mic and an LR baggs pickup. Trust me, it's worth it!
@PJJMDCC I now own the passive M1 and a Para Acoustic DI, which I use when running through the PAs at two of the places I play. I don't use the DI at home or at a gig where I'm running through my Crate Acoustic amp- it has all the features I need for the "clean" sound I like.
Yeah, I have a Samson and a Nady for mics and I agree that the mics sound sweet. but there's too much fluxuation in sound if you don't stand, like a statue, in front of a mic. I move around too much.
Have you had any feedback problems with it? Ive never used a soundhole pickup before and really considering about buying one. Does the chord get in your way at all?
@wgtroutman34 Very body sensitive. It picks up such subtle sounds, like your fingers rubbing on the strings before you pluck, and your forearm sliding on the body. I ran my acoustic through a digital delay to hear the sounds it picked up after they were made; snapping in front of the pickup comes through really clearly. But the sensitivity is a plus--and it's still noiseless (humbucking)! :D
@rootvalue Great. that's just what i wanted to hear. i'm a very percussive player, and i NEED that, and i thought a blend system was the only way. Thanks for answering my question! now i just need to know HOW....
@rootvalue well i just think of it as a humbucker on an electric guitar, and my tele doesn't pick up body signals. it just doesn't seem possible for it to pick up body signals without a microphone or a transducer. maybe you could fill me in on something i'm overlooking. by the way, thanks for answering my questions.
@wgtroutman34 I'm not positive how it works, but I pulled this from the Musician's Friend product listing: TriAxial Dynamic Technology
The hum-canceling coil is suspended under the main coil by a tuned support that allows it to move in 3 dimensions. The primary coil moves with the guitar top and creates a body signal in the suspended secondary coil.
I like talking with you, but I imagine a product listing would probably be more helpful.

Try E major instead of E minor for Hey Joe.

Well done! I'm interested in buying the M1 active and was wondering how it responds to deliberate slaps to the body (compared to an internal mic).

I have one of these in my Larrivee, as well as a B-Band A6, which I then mix. I think it sounds pretty damn good.
