What the hell was the army thinking? The ACU is a compromise, both in the material and in camouflage. The material is not thick enough in winter and too thick in summer. The UCP is a poor excuse for camouflage. They should have just digitized the M81 Woodland pattern and kept the three-color desert pattern as it was.
@QueensNeoPrepper its the way the army wears it, stop trying to make them look dumb, its to show the soldier and america go forward, to make it like america is progressing or something like them
I like the way it looks, the ACU. The digi look is cool but it really doesn't blend w. anything. We should have a more distinct version of the woodland, something different from the Marine Corps.
The army shouldn't have just discarded the BDU. The ACU pattern doesn't work in a forest environment at all. The ACU is only really suited to urban settings and rocky terrain.
I have a friend whos in the Army JROTC at Trimble Tech H.S, and they still wear them, the only time they wear them is when there performing color guard at the football games.
the Uniform is still being use by the Navy, Young Marines, Air Force Civil Air Patrol, Sea Cadets and Some High Schools for JROTC.
That may be so but saving money just for a uniform that does not work in every place at once should not,I was suprised the corps came up with the cash to switch to new camo giving that they can't spend alot with the money they get and smaller than the army,They came up with desert and woodland variants for a reason the same goes for the Army,The good thing is that they have finaly wised up and getting woodland, desert and a "third"pattern so no matter what is said grey UCP is dead and burried.
cmon people the acu was made so we would not waste money on particular camos like the corp's marpat since it takes more money for more soldiers. see the acu use the onion color (snow-rock-urban) the green( woods-in the dark-swap) tan( desert lgth enviorments- savanas) are all for the entire planet. plus
@ridder6689 LOL, you're a "call of duty" baby thinking you know anything about anything, I'm a 20 year vet. You can do yourself a favor, shut up and think. Better yet, go see a recruiter and enlist if you got the balls. If not, shut up you call of duty baby.
@zer0dahero Yes i play freakin call of duty but i have a life too you know im not your typical fanboy that you make everyone out to be ok, seeing grunts dressed up in baggy grey shit makes anyone easy picking and thats not my opinion its a fact its been proven No such thing as UCP the Army is going back to the logic thought of multiple enviroments than stick to one color fits all camo and hope it works when it dosent, Duh why else would you think the Corps have two sets of camo and not one huh?
@archiaskcommando i think they do, because it's no longer being issued and i doubt it's restricted(like CADPAT, UCP) which has to be burned when either leaving or getting a new pair.
@DjHypeTalkMusic chinese type-99! If they made a Cad-Pat/Mar-Pat style but with MultiCam colours would be pretty sick, they have the concelement, and it becomes harder to detect with NVG's

The BDU uniform is still being use today for the military cadets of the Civil Air Patrol,Young Marines and the U.S navy Sea Cadets, and some units for both Navy and Air force, tumps up if you agree
@ridder6689 sorry my mistake, it's the DCU which was introduced in 1992. the six color desert pattern '' desert strom camo'' was introduced in the early 1980s and same with the M81 woodland
MARPAT (Both Woodland and Desert) is the most adaptable to almost every environment. The only Camouflage better, is Multicam; To be honest there isn't a Camo. that can top it! But ACU!?!?!?!? The War we have been fighting in the Middle East is obliviously Desert...I have worn ACU's before to test what environments it would work in. It most certainly ISN'T adaptable there, but good in Mountains...After fading, it's not terrible. But still nothing compared to MARPAT's or Multicam.
i remember when we had to starch, rub, and drown our BDU's to keep them clean and looking good. they were comfortable as all hell and they blended in with the scenery real fine. but the ACU is a lazy man uniform. all you have to do is drop it in the wash, dry it, and trhow the patches on the velcro. but why am i complaining? im pretty lazy myself lol. but you do have a hard time hiding with the bright grey on though.
If any of you idiots realize that the Army is using ACU because Iraq is a desert environment, not a woodland environment so unless the Army wanted the highest contrast camouflage, they would be smart to use ACU. ACU blends in fine with the desert.
Most people have a problem with the colors (UCP camo) not the actual uniform, personally I'd prefer that they use a darker color with the acu pattern such as a dark brown and green (of course I'm not in the military so I don't know the factor that decides the color)
That's a good way to describe the BDUs: The uniform representing the "Be All You Can Be" era. That was the best "era" in my opinion, the BDU's were awesome, and the dress green uniforms represented the Army well. It's too bad they're getting rid of the dress greens too.
BDU's are so much better than ACU's. Just put some hook and loop on the shoulders and you're ready to rock. They're more durable too I've heard (from an Army officer).
damn... in a couple of years we have to change into ABU's... gonna miss the smell of melted boot polish and spray starch... now we go to loud ass velcro and digi camo cardboard...
@TheCrazyrogue666 You do know the ACU changes color so it can be used in ..Woodland, desert and snow. The BDU cant.Plus the ACU has IR blocks so it is hard to see at night making it harder for the enemy to see you BDU dosent have that.So research before you talk because you made your self look so stupid.
@N1cholas240 ACU, regardless of what apologists for or from the army say, it doesn't change color, it doesn't blend into anything. It might work in a big ashtray, gravel road, or granite quarry. Go match the colors at a paint shop, it's a few shades of gray, and off white tan/khaki. IR blocking can be done with any material if it's properly treated. The first time KBR washes your acu's you may as well wear nothing as for IR sig.
@B12G ACU is the only one that has IR blocks. Also ACU has fire resistant martearil and has bug replant built in. Yes even the army says the ACU can change color.
@N1cholas240 IR blocks and insect repellant are treatments, you can apply then to any material during the manufacturing process. They issue the bug treatment so you can apply it yourself. ABU has NIR technology as well. The flamer ACU is called theTencate defender m. NIR and bug repellant are treatments. ACU doesn't change color, it looks like galvanized steel, all the time, unless it's dark. There are flame resistant versions of woodland bdu as well, they were issued to Bradley crews.
ACU works best in Urban and at night /gray woodland/tree canopy/rocky areas and long range open field. Problem is that most fights are taking place up close near desert woodland mix and there ACU looks like a piece of concrete. Multicam is a far better option. But ACU will never go away because it works in urban/night the future of combat so they say
@1lostinspace your wrong my friend ACU is allready obsolete as of jan 1st of 2010 i believe MULTICAM will now bw phased in and ACU phased out over 2 years solong my digitized friend and back to blotches
What the fuck is up with the people who decide what the military is issued? Honestly it makes we want to puke. It's funny how in all these info vids that champion the new uniforms its always a bunch of office poges going on about how cool the new uniforms are; whether its the navy, army of air force. Not only have they fucked up the combat uniforms but also the dress and service uniforms..especialy the new mall security guard look Army dress uniform or the Navy confused Marine kahki shirt look?
I always thought that the ACU never worked well in most enviroments, The BDU has been more versatile through out it's time considering it's been in production for almost 2 and a half decades.
I like the idea of a universal camoflauge but not all camoflauge patterns willl work effective in all enviroments. Yet again... what does it mean to have a universal camofluage? Is it a camoflauge where it is going to work in all enviroments?
Unless the camoflauge relates to the uniform in general?
Let me make something clear. ACU stands for army combat uniform. The ACU is the style of uniform such as the pockets the velcro feature and the velcro ranks, unit, patch, name tape, and ranks. The BDU has different features. The Camo pattern is digital camo. I can buy a ACU in multi-camo its just a different style. I can get BDU in digital camo
@castillowarrior No, people who call it gay are mistaken. The ACU is much better than a BDU. More Pockets, velcro patches, and wash and wear. multicam is just favorited by paintball and airsoft lovers who try seem cool by talking shite about a uniform that most have bought military patches for and fail to represent any service value that come with it. hell, 99% of the kids don't even know what blousing bands are. Multicam isn't going to replace any ACU at home or in the desert.
@USAFFuturePilot We are already wearing multy cam "airforce future pilot" because acus are GAY, research before u talk out your ass, SSG US ARMY 10 years.
@castillowarrior Do you think I don't know that. And no, they are not gay. You know whats gay, the fact that the USAF didn't get a ACU/MCCUU style uniform and left alot of the new things out with the ABU. Appreciate that ACU's are not molten hot when the company adds too much renforcement and excess pockets that crap. An ACU with an ABU pattern would be awesome, but we don't have that.
Funny the Air Force and Navy stereotyped as being the most technologically advanced branches are the ones to still be wearing BDU's rather than the more advanced digital camo uniforms of the less tech advanced Army and Marine Corps.
@J3rEmY17 Hate to burst your bubble but even though the Air Force and Navy haven't completely phased out the BDU roughly 75% or more of the Airmen and Sailors are wearing ABUs or NWUs(respectively)...
Fatigues were sharp too ... you could starch them. We were told not to starch the BDU uniform when it was issued. I also liked the summer khaki uniform ... now that was one sharp uniform.
@systemaddictshock Well even multicam has it's shortcomings. I've noticed that multicam's blotchy pattern does not scatter the sillouete of the wearer as well as a digital pattern does. Also in certain environments such as highly vegetated areas multicam just isn't green enough. Marpat on the other hand does an exellent job of blending into both dry grass and thick greenery. They have digital multicam but I don't think it's as easy to find.
@ArmorFavorites taps this played every night at military base or post so that maybe why they put taps in... and this was made by the army so they know what they should and should not do...
Shame to see such a good uniform go, i grew up on the BDU and DCU.

ACU needs more dull green, tan, and brown.
arandomperson3 2 years ago 25
@arandomperson3 ACU's need to be in the dumpster or given away.

@arandomperson3 they just need to cut over too MultiCam and fast.
systemaddictshock 1 year ago
@systemaddictshock Well even multicam has it's shortcomings. I've noticed that multicam's blotchy pattern does not scatter the sillouete of the wearer as well as a digital pattern does. Also in certain environments such as highly vegetated areas multicam just isn't green enough. Marpat on the other hand does an exellent job of blending into both dry grass and thick greenery. They have digital multicam but I don't think it's as easy to find.

@arandomperson3 Lol, in other words MARPAT?

Those Military boots today are a hell of a lot different than what whe was wearing.
It goes to show you that Army boots have come a long way.

Taps should be played when honoring the fallen.
Not in a cheesy video commemorating an obsolete uniform.
This type of thing goes on all the time in Hollywood films. I thought you guys would have more respect than this though...

their honoring the fallen soldiers who wore it
psgchisolm 2 years ago
@ArmorFavorites taps this played every night at military base or post so that maybe why they put taps in... and this was made by the army so they know what they should and should not do...
