  • What is this motor going in

  • @superbeeaddict250

It's going into to a 2005 Ford F-550 chassis with a 1996 Peterbilt 379 cab, hood and a 50's style box. Project is on hold at moment till I get Back to Canada to live.

  • I LIKE IT!!

  • @therealpope79

    Thanks

  • Nice! There is a guy here in Alberta that has a 396 chevy in a peterbuilt pick up truck flat deck "thing"... Gets lots of looks when he drives around town..

P.s can u make those 2 strokes quieter at all with modern day mufflers?

  • @Canadianmancan

Thanks. Yes they can be quieter with new mufflers, but not as quiet as the cummins 6bt for example. I haven't put this in a truck yet, but it's really noisy. I plan on using really good sound deadening material and good mufflers to help tame the beast.:)

  • that motor looks sweet man nice job on it. right color and it sounds real healthy

  • @crimson22s

    Thanks:)

  • What did you put this in? I've always wanted to put one in an old Chevy P/U but would like to ad the Allison trans to it.,

  • @ellobo1965

At the moment it's in strorage until I get back to Canada to finish the truck project. It will probably be 2-4 years until that happens. This engine would be perfect for a Chevy 3/4-1 ton with an Allison 2000. That truck option my be in my future as well.:)

  • twin charged?

  • @paintballguy117

As in twin Turbo's? Not sure if that's what you mean, but it's a single turbo and a gear driven roots style supercharger.

  • can you put jakes on a gas? (i wanna say no but Idk)

  • @pretzel1253

Not to my knowledge, never heard of one made for a gas engine.

  • Im new 2 diesel, what do jake brakes do ?

  • @Carbonexpress97

By modulating the exhaust valves to convert the engine into a compressor, which in turn slows the truck down and reduces brake wear and stopping distances.

  • I salute those Donaldson filters ;-)

  • @Lasselkv28

Thanks, they're good filters for sure.

  • that sounds DAMN sexy

  • Great job with the build and tuning. That's the smoothest sounding Detroit I've seen on here. I'm planning to use a Detroit in a 4x4 and I'm very curious where I can learn how to build them properly. I can't find any books and I doubt the local technical school would be much help.

  • @HomosapienSilverback

Thanks for the comments. I would start by buying the 2 part Detroit 53 manuals that can be found on ebay from time to time of the cheaper CD versions that are available, as well as the tune-up kit. The manuals explain in detail how to rebuild and tune the engine. Hope this of some help.

  • @emerald310

Thanks for the information. I'll start looking for those items.

  • where did you buy te jakes at? i have looked at Jacobs website and couldnt find anything

  • @flippedmysled

I bought them from a guy in Vancouver, Canada. He only had this set and another that someone else bought. They are hard to find but if you keep looking around you'll find some. It took me around 6-8 months to find these ones.

  • sweet! jakes on a 53! not an easy find. what oil supply port are you using? looked like the one behind fuel pump? mine wouldn't work off idle like that from this port, so I switched to the one above the crank. Nice work!

  • @Buckbz

Thanks, I used the one on the blower side just to rear of it. If you look at my other video (Jakes installed), I show the plumbing for the jakes. I ended up tapping the front and rear frost plug holes to make it all work. All in all it turned out pretty good. I can use either 2 or 4 for the jakes so a nice option if its slippery out etc.

  • Love the motor. Looks and sounds great. What you going to put it in? Good videos.

  • @whitscot

Thanks. I plan to put it a custom built Peterbilt pickup. I'll use a 1994 Peterbilt cab and hood on a 2005 Ford f-550 frame and a 50's style pickup box. Just a fun truck to have around. Have to wait till I move back to Canada before do that.

  • love the jake! Wish I could find a set without having to break the bank to get them. Damn nice job on the valve cover, and plumbing fot the system!

  • @therealpope79

    Thanks

  • Man that sounds awesome. Where did you ever find the jake setup and the tall valve cover?!? Ive been looking for one for my 453t.

  • @josh216882000

    Thanks,

I found the jakes from a guy in Vancouver, Canada. I had benn looking for jakes for around 8 months before I found these. I made the tall valve cover myself from 2 vavle covers welded together. I had been looking for months for the oem riser with no luck so I made this one myself. I routed the oil lines and electric through the front and rear frost plugs. Can see that in my other video called jakes installed.

  • @emerald310 Wow that looks awesome man. In the video you cant even tell thats 2 valve covers welded together. Great job!

  • @josh216882000

Thanks, nothing a few hours and a tig welder can't do.:)

  • @emerald310 uh dude , seriously? you could have just got them from jacobs...

  • @novachevyguy

Thanks, if your referring to the Jakes I think you can still buy them but not sure at what price? I got this set for a good deal. The riser is another story as I did try Jacobs and left it to them for 4 months and they came up empty handed, so that's why I ended up welding 2 valve covers togther.

  • Ya sure did, a lot better than when I got it. Just needed a tune up and new fuel pump and that made all the difference.

  • That sure started easily.
