Mate maybe you should try taking a closer look at history. The far rights record in government isn't exactly stellar, Mussolini, Franco, Pinochet, Milosevic? If they came back this would be a good start. But imagine it without the constraint of that whack whack whack drum. Songs should be free to glide their own way, and not be constrained within the whack whack whack dumbeat. A bit like Free as a Bird, a promising fledgling, battered to death with Jeff Lynnes dullard whack. Which made it Dull as a Caged Bird. In an ELO museum.

You'd need a mountain range for all that I'd add the Moody Blues to that too. But just as the founding fathers of British rock I'd stick with the one I listed. The fact that the Stones have lasted this long is amazing, they lived up to their name.

It was because the Kinks were banned from America for 3 or 4 years, just at the time the British Invasion was getting started. They had to wait until the ban was lifted, and although they have built up a good strong fan base in America now, it undoubtedly inflicted massive damage when their progress could have been meteoric.

Hi, I was trying to reply to MichaelJames182 from 4 months ago, but my post was inserted into the wrong place. The Kinks were banned over a dispute involving withheld royalties, union musicians and copyright issues, I believe. Ray became quite bitter about it and wrote songs like "The Moneygoround" about it: "Everyone takes a little bit here and a little bit there, do they all deserve money from a song they've never heard?" It's on the album "Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround".

@ABdadaSURD. Thanks. I almost envy you the delights you have in store investigating Kinks music. They recorded at least 20 studio albums, and there are loads of compilation albums. There is a very helpful website I use called Dave Emlen's unofficial Kinks website. It has a complete discography and gives words, music and chords for more than 300 of their songs. Good hunting!
