This scene doesn't make any sense. Why would the machines have an air strike and and raid going on at the same time. Also why are there terminators, clearly designed to by human like with teeth and all, without artificial skin (I guess they must have been burned away in the air strike). Further, they all seem to have different weapons, yet they all shoot the same way, but somehow only those at the back. Like over the ones at the front. How did we loose against those idiots???
This is why sci fi movies from the 80's and 90's are way better than most of the crap that comes out nowadays. T2, Teen Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jurassic Park, the live action makeup and animatronics looked way better than CGI. Robo Cop > CGI Iron Man.

You are so pretentious and also seem to be contradicting yourself as you mention Jurassic park which was groundbreaking because of its USE OF CGI! "Robo Cop > Ironman", I really hope that's personal opinion, because you'd be an absolute idiot if you think robocop looks better when comparing special effects.

Difference is Jurassic Park didn't rely on purely CGI for it's special effects, it was it's use of live scale animatronics that made it what it is. And yes, a real live action Robocop suit, where the actor actually wears it for every scene in the movie and actually has REAL special effects damage on it looks better than a fake cartoon CGI Ironman. Go to Planet Hollywood and see for yourself.
@Freax84 I disagree, I think you're the one that doesn't know anything. I DON'T need to go to planet hollywood to understand how "REAL" the suit is. If you honestly can't tell the difference between a cartoon and CGI then there's something really wrong with your eyes. Jurassic Park DID rely on CGI because most scenes involving Dinosaurs were CG. The whole idea of Jurassic Park was to present the audience with more believable Dinosaurs and the main tool in doing that was a Computer.
i wachted T2 yesterday on TV and its WAY better then this crap....i mean at the beggining when Arnold takes clothes in T2 its a funny scene...in T3 its like give me ur clotes now...no fighting nothing...and future war...lol no related to the story....T4 is a freaking shit nothing else....James Cameroon made Teminator but some1 made it into shit.....-.-'
I think what a lot of people forget about this 'war scene' is that it isn't an ACTUAL war scene like the start of T2, it's John Connor's dream about the future. It's a dream, not an actual event, so why is it a surprise to anyone that it's surreal and doesn't make sense? Do most of your dreams make clear sense or do they tend to be more on the surreal side? Think about it.
I don't care what anyone says, I will take T3 over McG's shitty ass Salvation movie any fucking day of the week. The ending in T3 alone shits all over T4.
This is SHIT, nothing special here, not even SPECIAL effects, i hope James Cameron do the REAL FUTURE WAR, not this alternative future war from an alternative bad future
One thing that didn't really make sense were the flying H-K:s. The prototype in this movie was a miniature of this one. In Terminator and Terminator 2 it had another design. I'm assuming this war scene is set after T1 and T2's. Unless they just finally could build the prototype version, but I'm not buying that.
@Mrster T3 and T4s scenes are from a different future, T1 and 2 hunter killers are an original design made entirely by skynet after judgement day in 1997 which was postponed. T3 hunter killers are based off a human design just prior to the second judgement day in 2004.
@Mrster the terminators are an original skynet design as they have no human equivalent, its just the skynet of both futures came to the same conclusion.
this is kinda hokey opening battle sequence... the sounds from the guns sound cheesy, there are way too many terminators on the screen and its has that overblown CGI feel... the opening scene of T2 is just classic.. shows the difference wat a director like james cameron makes to a film
@reecekyle This was meant to be more of a dream sequence (nightmare actually), at least to me it did because this future never took place from John Connor's perspective, but with the arrival of the TX and 850, that all changed. But even so, I agree these flashbacks felt half-done and not much thought was put into them. I wouldn't mind all the CGI robots if we at least had a battle scene. The t-800s shooting off screen and the HK's just flying seemed very lazy on the writer and director's part.

Looking at the scene again, it looks like the terminators are on the defensive with this crowd. Literally tripping over broken terminators.
Even more hilarious, if you look at the Terminator's teeth, they have a gap exactly like Arnold's. Thats some serious attention to detail. Just wish they could have spent that kind of time on the rest of the movie.
people who say terminator salvation is better than T3 are talking bullshit, because even though T3 isn't as good as 1 and 2 it has one important factor that makes it much more enjoyable than TS and that is: ARNOLD.
The landscape had the right idea in T3, but this future war scene feels really corny with those gun sounds and the CGI endos. The future war in T1 and T2 had a far more serious tone, and were easily darker and scarier too.

There are things that I hated about Salvation. In my eyes it was a failure for many reasons. One of them, it didn't feel like Terminator anymore (yeah, it was suppose to be different, but I mean the Terminator universe). The machines looked more like Megatrons troops, the hero thing doesn't seem to have any sense at all and why, why didn't T-101 snap John Connors neck instead of showing that he is good at wrestling. James Cameron says that they totally f**ked his legacy. poor thing.
I actually liked the part where the camera surfaces over the water and the HK descends over the waves and you can see the force of its engines on the water.
But I still love the old HK so much better, when special effects weren't a bunch of fake looking CGI. I'll take T2's Future War scene any day :)
Now as far as I know, the scenery used in the future war scene was still a miniature set, but still showed a huge scale war well.
The part I really hate about this one is the Terminators... ugh.
Salvation was a step in the right direction but some things where over the hill. Especially the Motor!!! terminators. I thought I was in a silly transformers movie again. Also the Schwarzenegger Terminator was hilarious. I think the movies should be more like T1: scary, apocalyptical, paranoid and no mercy. Terminators should also more infiltrate into people's lifes. We saw examples of that in the Sarah Connor Chronicles Series.
The only thing I'll admit that's intimidating about this is the thought of being trapped in a wasteland with that many Terminators looking for targets. The HK's look stupid in this, the Terminators upclose don't look intimidating because of the CGI, their weapons are too small compared to what we saw in T2, and those are the lamest sound fx I've ever heard.

@collin341 well that's because on t4 they where on a different stage of the war, machines didn't have small enough laser guns to be carried by a terminator and the world wasn't fucked up that much because the war was just starting.

@collin341 well i know that is messed up but it is a goood movie and by early i mean like 2018 not 2029 like t1,t2,and t3 future wars are all about, And by megatron terminator you mean the harvester? well if you noticed it runs on fuel (smoke coming out form exhaust tubes) so it can't stay on the battle for to long, later "megatron terminators" will run on different kind of power maybe nuclear or something.
Honestly, I don't know why people like Salvation more than T3. I think they are both lame cash-in sequels, but at least imitated the feel of the Terminator series, whereas Salvation didn't feel at all like Cameron's vision of the future, which I found so compelling.

It may not be gritty as T1 or T2 but this is better than the bullshit that is the TV series with a "girl terminator protector" marketted to all the horny young males.

@isurugi You do know the show still had several millions of viewers when it got cancelled, only their budget was their biggest downside though (was quite big for a tv show) and for the fact that there is so many CSI like shows (clones) and shit like ghost whisperer on tv and a movie like the hurt locker can win a best picture oscar i would say good acting/plot is very opinionated so no need to attack me directly. ;)

This scene could have been much cooler if it was longer and they showed resistance fighters toasting Terminators and vice versa. Also, the music isn't as intense as Brad Fiedel's score. Not putting the movie down as I'm not an anal-retentive fanboy, and I highly enjoyed it. Still, they could have at least tried to match what was done in T2
the only thing i wanted to see in terminator salvation was a badass firefight between some terminator foot soldiers and some resistance troops, kinda like the future war segments from the first two films with tanks and aerials and everything, but with a lot more grit and violence too it. that's all i wanted to see, just a modernized version of the old cameron style future war. sadly, i got a 2 hour movie of nothing but giant explosions and dumb car scenes.
in T4:Salvation, the wars against the machines is stil in its "early" stages, i hope to we see more like a real large scale battle "man vs machine" in T5 :-)
personaly what i want to see ( besides the large scale battle "man vs machine") is Earl Boen ( aka Dr. Peter Silberman ) back ( or at least the "character").
in theory he could have survived "judgement day". . .
seeing that Sarah Connor was labeld as a "crazy woman" by him, it would be great to see him appoligize to John Connor for not believing her.

@TOFMDrone that would be truly ironic. it would be even funnier if skynet made a T800 exo-skeleton model off of him. also, do you know if they're going to make a fifth terminator movie? it seemed pretty open ended, and of course the war wasn't over, but it just seems like they're going to need cameron or at least some competent director to bring the series back to life a bit.
Cameron shot the war scenes gorilla style, on the ground, Saving Private Ryan style.
The new ones went all smooth and clean and turned it more into a Star Wars attack of the clones type battle. Which I feel lacks the true grit that the first two had.
@BroyhillVideo i would agree, but i think he should have made it more violent. when humans were struck by the laser bolt projectiles fired from terminator weapons sparks came out, rather than blood. it looked like machines were fighting machines in a way. other than that cameron's future war scenes were brilliant.
Well, this was a well-done scene, but it seems they blew the entire budget on this minute of footage, as this level of production value never reappears in the film.
Terminator 4, shockingly, lacks this kind of iconic battle scene, ie, the very thing that we wanted to see most! So at least Terminator 3 had one of its priorities straight.
we'll at least T3 stayed true to the future scene like 1 and 2. granted, it wasnt live like the first two, but it had the same idea. terminator 4 jacked everything JC thought of. John mostow made an attempt to keep camerons vision.
I don't think CGi ruined cinema, I like it personally. But when they are used in cliched scenes with a camera panning out to show the extent of a massive army thats whats bad. I liked the ground level camera from t1 and t2 because they make you feel like you're part of the conflict.
@FullWrangaAlchemist9 I liked Salvation because it was a pretty good flick that surpassed T3!! It won't be as good as T1 or T2 but it was decent! People criticize it saying that there was no plasma guns etc it was 2018 the beginning stages, thats another reason why I liked this film too, it was set a few years before 2029 and 2032 and this is a build up to T5 and T6 when we enter the future war we see in T1, T2 and T3 :)
@The1979Warriors EXACTLY RIGHT. And who know's if the plasma guns will ever be invented? Or will they be invented earlier? Because, you have to remember, this war is different from the one in T1/T2. And that's what I like about it. Like, it's more advanced. Cause in T1 (in 2029) the T-800 was brand-new. But in Salvation, 2018, it is new then. We know that Kyle Reese and the Terminator's will go back, but apart from that, it's all foren ground.

And contiunity wise, it makes no sence. In T1, Kyle said, that after Judgement day there is supposed to be war between humans and machines, humans lost and they were moved into concentration camps. Than the Jonh Conner saves then and THEN THE REBELION STARTS TO EXIST and hes a leader. In the movie, Resistence already exists, Conner is just a soldier and the world looks nothing like in these scenes. TS is piece of shit.
It was bad! In terms of atmosphere, it was bad. BRIGHT DAY, organised resistance.
And what the crap is with Marcus + that girl (forgot name), that development was UNNECESSARY. All of which contrasts the future war regardless. Even I had to give T3 a better mark, even if there are some stupid slapstick humour.
As a separate action movie, maybe Salvation was OK, but part of the Terminator saga, it paled in comparison. Both T3 and T4 lacked in that department.

Well, what happened was, in T2, they DESTROYED CYBERDYNE and Miles Dyson, BUT some of the people who worked their were still alive after the destruction of CyberDyne. So, they stil had their idea's and re-created CyberDyne, and called it CyberResearch because Dyson was dead, because CyberDYNE ties in with Miles DYSon's name. That's how it all happened. Right?
@5613n8 : I couldn't agree more than that. Every film put its own element in the Terminator Mythos. Let's hope that the the new trilogy with Christian Bale will become a new era regarding the Battle between Humans vs. Skynet. I cannot say that I was disappointed with Salvation. Let's see...

@Mrster T3 and T4s scenes are from a different future, T1 and 2 hunter killers are an original design made entirely by skynet after judgement day in 1997 which was postponed. T3 hunter killers are based off a human design just prior to the second judgement day in 2004.

this is kinda hokey opening battle sequence... the sounds from the guns sound cheesy, there are way too many terminators on the screen and its has that overblown CGI feel... the opening scene of T2 is just classic.. shows the difference wat a director like james cameron makes to a film

@reecekyle This was meant to be more of a dream sequence (nightmare actually), at least to me it did because this future never took place from John Connor's perspective, but with the arrival of the TX and 850, that all changed. But even so, I agree these flashbacks felt half-done and not much thought was put into them. I wouldn't mind all the CGI robots if we at least had a battle scene. The t-800s shooting off screen and the HK's just flying seemed very lazy on the writer and director's part.

There are things that I hated about Salvation. In my eyes it was a failure for many reasons. One of them, it didn't feel like Terminator anymore (yeah, it was suppose to be different, but I mean the Terminator universe). The machines looked more like Megatrons troops, the hero thing doesn't seem to have any sense at all and why, why didn't T-101 snap John Connors neck instead of showing that he is good at wrestling. James Cameron says that they totally f**ked his legacy. poor thing.

I actually liked the part where the camera surfaces over the water and the HK descends over the waves and you can see the force of its engines on the water.
But I still love the old HK so much better, when special effects weren't a bunch of fake looking CGI. I'll take T2's Future War scene any day :)
Now as far as I know, the scenery used in the future war scene was still a miniature set, but still showed a huge scale war well.
The part I really hate about this one is the Terminators... ugh.

Salvation was a step in the right direction but some things where over the hill. Especially the Motor!!! terminators. I thought I was in a silly transformers movie again. Also the Schwarzenegger Terminator was hilarious. I think the movies should be more like T1: scary, apocalyptical, paranoid and no mercy. Terminators should also more infiltrate into people's lifes. We saw examples of that in the Sarah Connor Chronicles Series.

The only thing I'll admit that's intimidating about this is the thought of being trapped in a wasteland with that many Terminators looking for targets. The HK's look stupid in this, the Terminators upclose don't look intimidating because of the CGI, their weapons are too small compared to what we saw in T2, and those are the lamest sound fx I've ever heard.

Honestly, I don't know why people like Salvation more than T3. I think they are both lame cash-in sequels, but at least imitated the feel of the Terminator series, whereas Salvation didn't feel at all like Cameron's vision of the future, which I found so compelling.

@isurugi You do know the show still had several millions of viewers when it got cancelled, only their budget was their biggest downside though (was quite big for a tv show) and for the fact that there is so many CSI like shows (clones) and shit like ghost whisperer on tv and a movie like the hurt locker can win a best picture oscar i would say good acting/plot is very opinionated so no need to attack me directly. ;)

This scene could have been much cooler if it was longer and they showed resistance fighters toasting Terminators and vice versa. Also, the music isn't as intense as Brad Fiedel's score. Not putting the movie down as I'm not an anal-retentive fanboy, and I highly enjoyed it. Still, they could have at least tried to match what was done in T2

the only thing i wanted to see in terminator salvation was a badass firefight between some terminator foot soldiers and some resistance troops, kinda like the future war segments from the first two films with tanks and aerials and everything, but with a lot more grit and violence too it. that's all i wanted to see, just a modernized version of the old cameron style future war. sadly, i got a 2 hour movie of nothing but giant explosions and dumb car scenes.

as far as i know, its the intention to make another Terminator "Trilogy", just don't expect all movies to be released before 2018 ;-).
first 3 where in the "present day", the other 3 are clearly going to be in the future.
personaly i see the new "trilogy" as a "reboot", like Star Trek ( 2009 ) did for the Star Trek franschise.
it would be great if Cameron ( the director :p ) came back, but i doubt it.

Cameron shot the war scenes gorilla style, on the ground, Saving Private Ryan style.
The new ones went all smooth and clean and turned it more into a Star Wars attack of the clones type battle. Which I feel lacks the true grit that the first two had.

I don't think CGi ruined cinema, I like it personally. But when they are used in cliched scenes with a camera panning out to show the extent of a massive army thats whats bad. I liked the ground level camera from t1 and t2 because they make you feel like you're part of the conflict.

People criticize it saying that there was no plasma guns etc it was 2018 the beginning stages, thats another reason why I liked this film too, it was set a few years before 2029 and 2032 and this is a build up to T5 and T6 when we enter the future war we see in T1, T2 and T3 :)

And that's what I like about it. Like, it's more advanced. Cause in T1 (in 2029) the T-800 was brand-new. But in Salvation, 2018, it is new then. We know that Kyle Reese and the Terminator's will go back, but apart from that, it's all foren ground.

And contiunity wise, it makes no sence. In T1, Kyle said, that after Judgement day there is supposed to be war between humans and machines, humans lost and they were moved into concentration camps. Than the Jonh Conner saves then and THEN THE REBELION STARTS TO EXIST and hes a leader. In the movie, Resistence already exists, Conner is just a soldier and the world looks nothing like in these scenes. TS is piece of shit.

It was bad! In terms of atmosphere, it was bad. BRIGHT DAY, organised resistance.
And what the crap is with Marcus + that girl (forgot name), that development was UNNECESSARY. All of which contrasts the future war regardless. Even I had to give T3 a better mark, even if there are some stupid slapstick humour.
As a separate action movie, maybe Salvation was OK, but part of the Terminator saga, it paled in comparison. Both T3 and T4 lacked in that department.

Jesus you guys act like T3 was such a horrible movie. It wasn't even bad. It was a necessary movie to move the terminator franchise into the future war/judgment day, which it did.

Well, what happened was, in T2, they DESTROYED CYBERDYNE and Miles Dyson, BUT some of the people who worked their were still alive after the destruction of CyberDyne. So, they stil had their idea's and re-created CyberDyne, and called it CyberResearch because Dyson was dead, because CyberDYNE ties in with Miles DYSon's name. That's how it all happened. Right?

@5613n8 : I couldn't agree more than that. Every film put its own element in the Terminator Mythos. Let's hope that the the new trilogy with Christian Bale will become a new era regarding the Battle between Humans vs. Skynet. I cannot say that I was disappointed with Salvation. Let's see...
