I caught so much shit from my metalhead buddies as a kid for buying The Way It Is and Scenes From The Southside while they were buying Ozzy records . Who's laughing now ?
I live in Richlands, Virginia, the place mentioned in the opening line of this song. This fascinates me. It would fascinate you too if you knew how small and not well-known it is.
@IsaacRat I can relate a bit. I was born in Bristol, Tennessee and still have family there and just accross the border in Abingdon, Virginia. Also in Staunton and Bluefiled, Va. Virginia is a beautiful state! Maybe I'll get up to Richlands sometime to take a break from Atlanta traffic and general chaos! : )
One of my all time favorites of Bruce's. What a phenomenal piano part and touching set of lyrics. It's just so sad that so little music is produced today similar to this.

@jbarbou3 I am too. And apparently he came here and stayed with one of his friends who lived in Claypool Hill. They never told anyone he was here. That's what one of my friends told me.
@jjm31usa Agreed1 haha kinda sound's like"hole in the bucket' n I don't know about under appreciated lol only us smartt ppl. w/ great taste like him because he's the best! not that i don't want the popularity/fanbase for him but I kinda' like the fact that not a lot of people like him like we do and stuff...Idk hard to explain.. it's like finding the best fishin spot ever n only sharing it w/ a few good friend's haha(sound's stupid blehblehbleh)
@gregoir I totally agree. Whether or not that somewhat drives me away from most contemporary artists, the intimacy between a lesser known artist and a devoted listener is not quite as prevalent anymore. haha. The fishing reference is close to what i was thinking. I just wish i had more talent to share his music for the rest of my life.
Great. His piano playing on this track beats anything he's ever recorded. You noticed of course that the album track doesn't have drums until the outro coda? That is genius. Clearly he's a bit rusty here. ;)
Are we talking about Kings Highway South...or Kraussdale Road...or both??

Between 3:00 and 4:15 is absolutely beautiful. Bruce Hornsby is the most underappreciated pianist in the world.

My favorite song of Bruce Hornsby. It's like this in Appalachia-so many unrequited lovesongs are born there.

I have to agree with you, has always been my favorite Hornsby song, sounds a little better in the studio version though.
