I met her after a solo show in DC and she was perfectly pleasant, signed my poster and talked to everybody who waited after the show. Maybe it was because we were purchasing merch - she was selling the merch herself - but I didn't notice any rudeness.
OMG, people, she's an artist, not your friend. Whether she's a bitch or a hot lay, should be irrelevant in your appreciationor lack therof, of the music!
I met her a few years ago and she was really sweet and down to earth. These artists are into making music and performing it, not socializing with strangers after their show. They have bad days like everyone else. Mary and her drummer stayed at my friends house after her show and my friend said she was very nice.
saw her open for quasi, she had technical problems, my dad was with me, he went up to her afterwards and tried to offer her a "hey i work on electrical stuff, i think i know what was wrong w/yr amp". she looks at him for a literal second and turns her head and starts up a conversation w/ash.
it was funny but kind of fucked. ive met her after helium shows and she was pleasant enough, possible pity for high school dorks.
please! i've met her a few times during her solo career and she was always really sweet. during the helium days she was a little colder to the audience but i think that had to do with personal stuff within the band.
she's not a fucking talk show host, and its not her job to be a smooth talker. she's a perfectly nice girl.
I love the patronizing tone the interviewer takes when he is asking about the musicians on Mary's record: "now, tell us about _them_ ."
As if he is speaking to a reticent little girl, trying to patiently draw out her responses one by one as he leads her along some "adult" line of inquiry whose comprehensive implications she, in her innocence, is not able to fully grasp.
i didn't take that away at all. in fact, i appreciated the elucidation of Timony's current collaborators, since fans of Helium (however devoted) can't be expected to have followed the manifold lineup of Timony's solo work post-1996.
Best? Ha, good artist but i prefer Frank Zappa, steve vai, and Jimi Hendrix. Though she is very experimental, like striping the guitar strings out and playing with a screw driver.
I'll agree with you there. I remember her back with Helium and then I saw a video not too long ago and wanted to see if they were around and I found Mary has been very prolific and her new album sounds incredible! I'm buying it very soon... she's one of my favorite musicians
Hell yeah! Jeff Goddards and old bud of mine!

I've always liked Mary Timony. It dissapoints me to here from so many that she is a total bitch.
I can't stand musicians/artists that think they are above everyone else.

Your in the minority unfortuneatly. Everyone I've heard from that has met her doesn't have anything nice to say about her.
She was probably nice to you because she maybe wanted to sleep with you.

She saved a puppy from drowning.

It's pretty gloomy music.

She isn't shy. She could be kinda mean. Also she is really awkward.
turtleguy910456686 3 years ago
Not anymore awkward than Stephen Meritt of Magnetic Fields.
Actually, she's quite gregarious in comparison to SM's antisocial dirge.

She can get mad. Sorry to crush your dreams.
turtleguy910456686 3 years ago
I heard stories of that, here in Boston.
I love her music, but i sense she has a wicked side, but i only saw her a few times in passing.
Is she just a strict teacher?
