It's funny, but I've noticed that when behinds the scenes stuff of youtube videos shows someone shooting on The RED, people get all goo goo and glowy like "wow" you shot on a RED! You might as well get goofy over someone shooting their youtube vid on an arriflex 35mm. I think the RED is fantastic, but its still not affordable for the "average" amatuer, or low budget indie filmmaker. You'd have to have pretty deep pockets to shot on a RED for fun,
I've spent £600 for my Lumix GH1, it's hacked already and I don't need a Red One anymore. If you are pretty loaded buy two at once, but I'm fine now...
i thought the red took some process to get the computer, for example some one told me its a digital version of film, can you you just connect and sync with this camera i wanna know cause im sick of thinking of this SHIT!!!
@sifs4 I don't think I'm cool enough. But my schools tech dept. throws out stuff like old tissues so I can get anything I need there. They got some pretty nice ones!
love this camera. from what i can see it is the future. i just hope that the price will go down so us average consumers can buy this great piece of technology.
The Red One is about 6 times the resolution of current Blu-Ray technology.
The problem with filming using the Red One is that 30 years from now when everything has a resolution of 200,000,000 pixels with 60 billion colors (instead of the 16 million we have today) and 240 frames per second files shot using the Red One will be locked in at the resolution they were made at while films shot using 35mm will be able to transfered.
Alright, as a film editor, I must say that I'm shocked at your comment. This RED camera can shoot in 2K and 4K, which is the equivalent of 35mm film. The detail in each shot is astonishing. It destroys HD 1080p in my opinion.
The future of Filmmaking is looking brighter for us all, don't be negative about it! Do your research!
1920 x 1080 cameras have small sensors - the Red sensor is the size of a 35mm film camera - the advantage of this - apart from resolution, is a shallow depth of field (background more out of focus) DoF helps with pull focusing, you can also reveal objects if it is very shallow - there are lots more reasons - look it up! It's not just good lighting and composition, it's quality (4k) and aesthetics (dof) too. You have to get the balance right.
@justresultstv jaies dude, i think film is bigger than 4k man, way bigger, red is thinking of 28k cameras, so film size will be around 13k, just guesing, example showing size of film
The image sensor is bigger. Take still cameras for instance. You have two cameras that are both 10 mp. One has an image sensor the size of a 35mm negative the other one is half the size of your pinky. The 35mm sized image sensor will fucking blow away the other one in quality. That's the shit you never hear about when buying consumer cameras but you should know. Yep...it's a fact.
ALL THESE HD CAMERAS AND 4k cameras are fine for world of socumentary and telvision and some movie project, but if they think they can replace FILM then they are WRONG! FILM IS CINEMA
yeah all in theory! I still can't get my files from 5d mk 11 to run on my top of the range very expensive mac , snow leopard etc.. I have to re format to pro res 442 to just do basic editing, Long way to go yet , but yes the lenses you can use are nice on the red,
man these cameras are incredible. i attend the colorado film school and we got to do demos with them. HOLY CRAP! the footage looked amazing!!! oh and @ hi8films mac owns pc hands down when it comes to film.
im trying to get into filming. im a straight rookie though. I live on the lake and there is often beautiful sunsets etc. I take pictures with my digital camera, but the colors can't really be seen. especially if i film with it.
I am interested in purchasing an affordable video camera that can really capture the beauty of things such as colors in sunsets and textures on the soft water.
i have an xl1 (and i've worked with xl2) it is horrible compared what you can get today for 1500 dollars (resale value of the xl1s). I recently bought an avchd hfs100 with a rode video mic. It destroys the xl1/2. It shoots 24p, 30p, and 60i. It has a 1/2 cmos sensor and 1.8 lens creating as shallow dof as the xl1/2. It has manual shutter speed, aperture, and manual gain! It is tapeless hd at 24mbps. At my work we use the panasonic hd p2 cams and the hfs100 compares nicely with it. Check it out.
yea its a nice picture but nothing beats film. It still LOOKS like video it still IS video... why try and beat it? I like the title of this video...."The RED, a new world in FILM making"
there where some movies shot with the red. like knowing. i could not tell the difference. the video above isnt shot with the red if thats what your talking about.
"why try and beat it?" the world is not evolving thanks to people like you. "Lets stay they way we are!" "Don't invent anything else!" ... go shoot yourself.
I agree with you. Its like the whole 3D animation thing. You never see 2D animated films anymore, but as cool and clean as 3D looks, it still hasn't captured the beauty or feeling that 2D had. Personally I doubt it ever will.
i kno but it is brisging the gap between high budget hollywood movies and low budget ones, giving many more high res movies and they will be ready for when those 4k tv's (Quad HD) are aresonable prices
If your talking about "Red One" then you don't need any filters. The "Red One" has lenses that are able to shoot in 35mm. If your talking about other prosumer category cameras then you would need a 35mm lens and an adapter in which case only one company that I know makes adapters which is "Letus". They make adapters for most prosumer category cameras. Lastly if your talking about using a filter in editing it can't be done.... Hope that helps...
I'm glad I jumped off the DV wagon 3 years ago, skipped HD and moviemaking for a couple of years. When I get back on track, the RED camera is the one I've been destined to wait for.
True, but if the Film looks shitty in this day and age no one gives two shits about the story. And this is sad because modern motion pictures are really suffering due to the lack of story--it's all about fancy special FX. I'm a Tarantino lover and Pulp Fiction looks great (Shot with ASA 50 film stock I believe) and the story is the greatest of the past 25 years. So I suppose I agree with you to an extent.
