RESOLVED - TV required a new main board and LCD panel !
But having brought the problem to the attention of Samsung, quoting the rights within the Sales of Goods act - they have provided all parts FOC and paid for the cost of repair by an authorised repairer - I'm happy, though it took me 3 months to get my TV back and get to this resolution.
I have this on my brand new LG plasma, i hate how i cant return it anymore, even though its like 4 days old.

yep, exactly the same has hapened to my samsung. not sure what to do about it? Get it fixed or ditch the TV?
