Please keep in mind that a single, very small and unimportant grain of sand will still be able to scratch the screen. You never know when one of those (sand, at least in small amounts, can be everywhere) will enter your pocket, so if you really care about keeping it pristine you should use a screen protector. I know it sucks, but try to think about this: every time you wipe your screen you have a decent chance of scratching it, much more than you have doing to the thing what you see in this vid.

I have to agree with you 100%. These tests really arent simulating anything close to tthe abuse a phone takes on a daily basis. I fell asleep on the couch a few nights ago and had my phone resting on my lap. when i stood up the phone dropped and slid acroos the floor, screen down, making a nice 3 inch scratch in the glass. this was caused by a single grain of sand. I normally ALWAYS use a screen protector but the curved glass makes it difficult to find ones i like

@wesdex04 Generally my phones always take some serious beating in the body and start looking really crap before I change them, but the screen is always brand new because I can't live without screen-protectors. I don't care if the body gats scratched or worn, but the screen...I don't even wanna think about it. You may consider trying Skinomi screen protectors for the Lumia, I heard they're good. Zagg ones are also an option, but they have that sticky feeling that I can't stand.

@mkr10001 the point of dropping the coins is that the screen gets pressured more when a coin hits the screen with its smaller sized surface rather than the head or tail surface. The same reason nails are built with a tiny surface

I dont understand the point of this scratch test, either the camera is not great enough to capture the scratches or its usually the light used which masks the scratches.. even a micro fiber cloth can easily scratch a gorilla glass.
