Wow... I've had XP all the way from when it came out until early 2011. April 2011: got Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, and it's by far the best OS I've ever used!

Windows 2000 > Windows 98 > Windows 7 > Windows XP
Support for Windows 98 started to go down the drain after 2009. Now you have to use KernelEx to get certain programs working.
On my pc with a 3.63Ghz core2duo, HD5670 1GB and 8GB DDR3...Win7 64-bit is only using up 1.6GB RAM and Win7 32-bit uses up around 512MB (netbook with 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB DDR2) idle.
It's not really fair to run an OS on an old PC and make such a judgement when there's clear requirement. It's going to appear slow and like a resource hog compared to a decent pc within in the last 4 years.
XP was good for its time and it's good for super low spec computers, but it's ancient and it's time to move on
@LordReserei01 Reason why 64 bit uses more memory is because it needs the extra memory for 64 bit programs, 32 bit uses less because well... It plainly doesn't need as much. Also I agree, its time to move on. I agree with Microsoft cutting off support for XP as well, this frees up developers for Vista and 7 in the future :).

Upgraded to Windows 7 the day it came out. I always skip every other windows release. Ive owned Windows 3.11, 98, XP and now 7. By skipping every other one ive managed to skip all the lemon oses. ME and Vista sucked.

This is October 2010 and if my old IBM running XP didn't start to go south on the hardware last week, I wouldn't have this new HP running Seven. Tomorrow I begin searching for replacement hardware for my IBM running XP because Seven is going into the garbage, even if this machine has to go with it. The reason you need to run an updater is because if you backup your computer, but don't have your external hard drive connected all the time, then you need to be sure that the update isn't gonna mess up your computer until you have done a backup. My external hard drive saved my Mac once.
In all reality, Vista and XP are all one in the same. All Vista is was a prettier version of XP and some more security features but yet it was easier to get hacked, how does that work?

Memory hog - Doesn't affect anyone with 2GB or more of RAM.
Faster - No again, Vista is optimised for 64 bit and unlike xp it's version actually has support.
The only difference between Vista and 7, is 7 is slightly faster and has a hideous UI. All the drivers are cross compatible, it is actually the best gaming platform because it is the most stable regarding games.
All the hate for Vista is media driven bullshit. I'll use it over xp or 7 any day.

That was the reason why people got mad why Vista is not really capable on their "Vista Capable" machine. Me too. XP is a miracle from Microsoft, instead of taking an older PC and installing Windows 7 on it, I used (don't tell anybody o_O...) a pirated copy of XP, and it's a LOT better than other OS's... not Snow Leopard, but on Windows OS's.
I using a windows xp, but the must secure system is a linux, and linux are freeware. An incovenient are the games for windows don´t run in linux, but exist very games very nice to linux.

I am really impressed with Windows XP SP3 and really like it running on my desktop but I guess thats all my computer can really run on it., I been trying to get a bigger hard drive that is the old way instead of SATA which my computer can't take because its Refurbished but I have updated a lot for this PC.

My old compaq sr1330nx with 512 MB ram, single core, windows xp, and it is just as good as the might a6228x. Imagine the sr1330nx have dual core, 2 GB ram, it probably could conquer this world. Can't believe microHard spent all that time and money and came up with such a bad operating system (vista). Vista accomplish nothing except wasting time and money
Yea XP is way better, my computer would boot up in like 1 minute and ready to use, while VIsta which I have now takes 3 fucken minutes which is bull shit. Also XP would shut down in 30 seconds compared to Vista Which takes 1 minute. XP also ran all my applications smooth including my games.
I feel like I was forced to vista, becuase I was using XP Professional a few months ago and was just doing what I normally do (Gaming) and it froze. I did what any man would do, press every button on my keyboard and smacked the mouse against my mouse mat. Did a restart and it wasn't booting after, so i tried a reboot. My computer never allowed any of the XP discs I had but funnily it only allowed Vista or Windows 7. Oh well, at least I managed to upgrade to Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
I love XP, but most of the computers you buy used with XP are the older, slower ones. When I get a different PC, I am going to get a used one that came pre-loaded with Vista, and install XP on it. Vista is such a hog that those computers that run it standard have to be fast and powerful, so the right one should be a monster with XP on it!
That's what I did, definitely do it. Vista is an abomination on laptops. My laptop runs very nicely with XP, with better battery life and overall speed.
Just remember to download all your drivers etc, and download something like windowblinds to skin it and give it that vista look - the ONLY thing I would say Microsoft improved with Vista, it does look nice.

i have to tell this but in 2010 i am a xp user and it s best windows ever made it
and i don't like new vista and 7 i think after i will be bored from XP i will pass to Macintosh... 7 takes to much memory from ram ,HDD , why to spend my time with 7 when can play games with more speed one XP

windows 2000 here, running perfectly and honestly more stable and secure (I always use Antivirus/antispyware though as I'm not a complete fucking idiot unlike the whiners who go why I get virus you bastards I switch to mac) then any pc running XP as I've seen so far yet it still allows for DX 9.0 and up (cept 10) :3
so I can play Halo (which I have been doing) with my Radeon 9200. xD (It surprising kicks ass)

Hey Chis, I'm still running Windows XP in 2010, that burst your bubble... Alot of people still run XP. Can my computer handle Vista and 7? Of course it can! I've tried it, just don't like the new OS. Thinking of switching to Ubuntu permanently actually, just testing it out via Wubi to see what software is supported... But for now, XP is imho great.

Me too. XP is a miracle from Microsoft, instead of taking an older PC and installing Windows 7 on it, I used (don't tell anybody o_O...) a pirated copy of XP, and it's a LOT better than other OS's... not Snow Leopard, but on Windows OS's.

I using a windows xp, but the must secure system is a linux, and linux are freeware. An incovenient are the games for windows don´t run in linux, but exist very games very nice to linux.

Windows XP only requires 200MB to run.
Windows 7 needs 1GB. And Vista needs
2GB!! Now choose again...
I rather use the less-RAM consumption OS
in order to save memory for other apps than
wasting it just to satisfy myself with a pretty

I am really impressed with Windows XP SP3 and really like it running on my desktop but I guess thats all my computer can really run on it., I been trying to get a bigger hard drive that is the old way instead of SATA which my computer can't take because its Refurbished but I have updated a lot for this PC.

Dual cores eat up more elect, yes but not that much VERY LITTLE! :D (Unless your doing gaming with a dual core 3.4 GHZ Intel or AMD. Then your talking about eating up elect.
Quad cores will rape elct... But the most electricity eating devices are Graphics Cards.

I have XP SP3 and I love it, I have had, like 20 people who buy new pc's with vista and they BUY XP and put it on their new vista PC...that says a lot, maybe Windows 7 will be something else but Vista is a pig and u can throw all the lipstick (ServicePacks) to it and it will still be a resource hog you need a supercomputer to get 60+ frame rate on 3 year old games lol

Vista doesn't deserve the bashing you guys give it. You guys are treating it like its windows millenium(definetly deserves a bashing) I've been using vista service pack 1 and it hasn't had any crashing or issues. All you windows 7 lovers look like a bunch of hypocrites honestly I find some of the features in 7 to be stupid or useless like areo shake. All these people who say windows 7 is the bomb will probaly in front of microsoft complaining about windows 7's issues or ditched it for a new OS.

I agree with mathewkutty, to hell with vista. I have a hp pavilion a6228x, 2GB ram, vista premium, service pack 1 & 2, XXX2 core... bull crap. My old compaq sr1330nx with 512 MB ram, single core, windows xp, and it is just as good as the might a6228x. Imagine the sr1330nx have dual core, 2 GB ram, it probably could conquer this world. Can't believe microHard spent all that time and money and came up with such a bad operating system (vista). Vista accomplish nothing except wasting time and money

Yea XP is way better, my computer would boot up in like 1 minute and ready to use, while VIsta which I have now takes 3 fucken minutes which is bull shit. Also XP would shut down in 30 seconds compared to Vista Which takes 1 minute. XP also ran all my applications smooth including my games.

I feel like I was forced to vista, becuase I was using XP Professional a few months ago and was just doing what I normally do (Gaming) and it froze. I did what any man would do, press every button on my keyboard and smacked the mouse against my mouse mat. Did a restart and it wasn't booting after, so i tried a reboot. My computer never allowed any of the XP discs I had but funnily it only allowed Vista or Windows 7. Oh well, at least I managed to upgrade to Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

I love XP, but most of the computers you buy used with XP are the older, slower ones. When I get a different PC, I am going to get a used one that came pre-loaded with Vista, and install XP on it. Vista is such a hog that those computers that run it standard have to be fast and powerful, so the right one should be a monster with XP on it!

That's what I did, definitely do it. Vista is an abomination on laptops. My laptop runs very nicely with XP, with better battery life and overall speed.
Just remember to download all your drivers etc, and download something like windowblinds to skin it and give it that vista look - the ONLY thing I would say Microsoft improved with Vista, it does look nice.
