This is not going to be an extensive review. I simply want to make a quick point that this laptop, at the price paid for the refurbished model, is an incredible value. It's plenty fast for those that just want a laptop for work (connecting to Citrix, Terminal Services, web) and personal (web ...

  • Great vid! Question that I can't find an answer to online...I want to set up a Raid 0 with two intel 510 ssd's for an OS on the intel controller and use SSD caching for my other/third SSD (120GB Wildfire) and 2T hard drive... can this be done on the asus P9X79 WS MB?

  • @pctrailerpark

No SSD caching is limited to the SSD caching ports which there are only two. In addition as you are already using an SSD there is not reason.

You should only use this if you have a Single mechanical HD and then SSD to accelerate performance. For increasing SSD performance or SSD raid consider a RamCache as shown in our other videos. Thanks for the view and support.

  • And I assume this would not affect any type of Windows Backup say Windows Home Server Backup or the Standard Win 7 Backup image......as those programs simply back up what's on the mechanical hard drive and would not even recognize the cache drive......because all it is is a "cache"...once again---brilliant!

  • @johnrr6

Correct standard backups woudl work exactly the way they normally do. Thanks for the view and support.

  • So----let me get this straight. You use the SSD simply as a cache....

No additional drive appears in windows---no partioning---no drive management.....

Inexpensive way to get ALMOST pure SSD performance----Brilliant!

  • @johnrr6

You got it. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Does it mean you need to use a normal HDD as the OS drive and then SSD installed as a secondary to create this SSD cache setup?

  • @pakjai

Yes this is correct you need to install the OS on the mechanical HD and then add the SSD to enable the cache function. Thanks for the view and support.

  • @ASUSIlluminati Thanks for your clarification buddy :)

  • Great but... isn't it an awful lot of money spent, just for starting stuff faster?

  • @satspot

Thanks for the view and support in most situations a standard HD with a low cost SATA6G SSD ( generally 80 to 100 dollars ) is still going to be considerbly cheaper than a high capacity SSD like a 256GB and larger so when compared in that respect you are saving a considerble amount.

  • Tweeting your giveaway. @MCJunkie

  • @ASUSIlluminati Ok $450. Its all I got!!

  • So SSD caching works only for 1 partition and only in windows? or does it work for the whole disk on all OS's once setup?

  • @GoldenPockets2

SSD Caching goes by the entire installed physical volume regardless of partition. Thanks for the view and support.

  • J.J. I am currently a novice computer enthusiast and would like to know a few things. If I am building a computer using the X79 and I have my HDD and SDD would I install my OS on the HDD and then set up the SDD cache or would I just install the OS on the SDD?

  • @Dracorock16

The correct configuration would be to have your OS installed on the HDD and then create the SSD Cached configuraiton via AiSuite II. Hope this clarifies things for you.

Thanks for the view and support.
