It's too bad John Stockton and Karl Malone didn't have an equivalent high caliber center. If we could have had a TALL/BIG, non-clumsy center to help rebound/block, we would have been unstoppable. We had Jeff Hornacek and Brion Russel for 3's, Stockton/Malone for assists/points and defense. The ONLY thing we were missing was a top-notch center....instead we had Ostertag. =\

Agreed, he almost never missed a game and always was there when a big shot was needed. Outside of Magic, he is the best PG to ever play the game. Ever. Stats and consistent performance are the proof. Sure, some guards might have had streaks where they played better (Isiah for example) but for a body of work nobody can touch Stockton. Magis was just out of this world, he could dominate a game without taking a shot.

I live in Wales and I met a guy at a court who was just amazing. He was 30 years old, about 5'9, could touch the rim and was making 3 pointers on the turn. I like to think I can defend quite well and I not only had 4 inches on him, he was "taking it easy" because he had just come out of hospital a month previous, with a collapsed lung. It wasn't so much we didn't have a 3rd star, it was more like we didn't have a center... If the Jazz had someone more consistant than Ostertag, I think we win a title. No, I don't think Hornacek or Russell were superstars. They were good players and filled roles that needed to be filled for the Jazz, but they weren't superstars. Truth be told, I don't think the Jazz needed a 3rd superstar to win a title. I think that all they needed was another, average big man to compliment Malone and to take some pressure off of him. But like I said, that's just my personal opinion. I could be wrong, if they had another big man, maybe they still wouldn't have won a title.
