anyboidy notice that NONE of these sherlock holmes videos has even a single dislike? its amazing! not ONE! we oughta do something about it, dont you think?
That is the worst fake blood i have ever seen. It is obviously red paint.... if all horror films used that for blood they would be far less scary.. :D
@20meerkat anyboidy notice that NONE of these sherlock holmes videos has even a single dislike? its amazing! not ONE! we oughta do something about it, dont you think?
Oh my GOD the two [Brett and Gray] could not POSSIBLY be more like brothers and, indeed, best friends. They're HILARIOUS together. Brett IS Holmes [FUCK Downey] and there can be no other Mycroft than Charles Gray.
I enjoy a good deal of the different Sherlock Holmes adaptations, for different reasons. I for one, love Jeremy Brett, his manner is fantastic, his voice is amazing and he is probably the Holmes who is most a "character"/eccentric, like the Holmes of the canon was. I'm not sure who I imagine when I read the books, sort of a cross between several Holmeses, but the Watson I imagine is closer to Jude Law/Vitaly Solomyn than the older Watsons.
Brett is not how I picture Holmes at all. His entire attitude feels wrong to me- he seems to add exclamation points to a lot of lines that should have just been spoken.
@dalek42 I quite agree. The overly dramatic incidental music, awkward camera angles and lightning flashes are a tad over-the-top. It should have been titled "Hammer House Of Holmes". However, the technical over-indulgence notwithstanding, I must further your point to say that any scene with Charles Gray is nothing less than marvelous. He rises above the tackiness of the presentation and demands viewing.
The Jeremy Brett era of Holmes is the most true-to-book presentation of Holmes ever made. It is also one of ITV's most cherished archive dramas (this and Sharpe were 1st in line for HD restorations). Go and look on Amazon's reviews for the DVD set, I have never seen so many one-sided 5 star reviews for a DVD set. It is the only Holmes production with the balls to show him warts-and-all, including taking cocaine and morphine. Your assessment is way off and the drama is well judged.
@calliesaiyan You know how he was born with rhotacism (speech impediment that makes it difficult or impossible to pronounce the consonant 'r')? He had corrective surgery and speech therapy to overcome it. I've noticed that when he looks his worst (and therefore presumably feels his worst), this difficulty tends to become more apparent. The Devil's Foot is a good example.

Also...that blood looks like soup. Bad SFX :p

Mycroft taking snuff was a treat for me as I am an avid sniffer.
I wonder, how many stories were done in the series? I'm sure they couldn't have covered the entire Canon..
matero30 10 months ago
@matero30
41 Storys were covered from the Canon By Brett across the Adventures/Return/Case book and Memoirs.

There is currently a petition to get jeremy Brett awarded a posthumous Bafta. Look at "posthumous Bafta for Jeremy Brett" on facebook
