Brad, Kenny, Toby...take a listen to this voice. I hope you cash your checks wearing a ski mask, because Mr. Whitley made possible what you are enjoying today. THIS is country music, and THIS is talent. Cover-boy looks might make you money, but it doesn't mean you're talented. God bless you, Keith. Country music died with you.
Other than this song I still have to say the best song he did was "When you say nothing at all" I love what Allison Krauss did but the original was the best
I saw Keith Whitley when he was 16 years old in a bluegrass band. He was with Ralph Stanley. I have fond memories of bluegrass festival with my family when I was a kid.
As fate would have it, real country music is gone with Keith Whitley and now all we have left to listen to is this bullshit so called country music we hear today. I call it "gossip country".
Another person keeping Keith's Memory Alive & Going :-D
I have 2 on my channel, but some are dedicated to mostly Keith Whitley & I still miss him, but when I get to missing him, I bring up a video, watch it, then I'm fine.
I have Keith in a lot of my many playlists. Thank ALL who keep Keith's Talent Going & Going. YouTube is a veritable Jukebox! :-)
Wow, what an Amazing talent. This song never hit home with me till recently so I posted a cover of this song on you tube as a tribute. Thanks Keith for the music, RIP.
@RitchardKirkHuffman I don't know where you are from or how you were raised, but I'll say this...to use Keith Whitley's hard work and fame to promote your own agenda is outrageous. I want to listen to Keith and read his fan's comments without your half-hearted "Wow" and self promotion. You should know better my friend. Maybe you should have some respect. No wonder this song didn't "hit home"with you until recently.
@Tysen37075 such a nice comment, tysen. i'm glad Jesse is carrying on his daddy's legacy, we all miss Keith, that's for sure. Best to Jesse and his Mama from us all.
my dad bought a house off keiths sister mary back in 1990. i was just 10 years old. im 30 now and for the first time in 20 years i went an visited keiths mom. Shes 92 years old, a great lady! He has a great family! I was flattered when she said "honey my keith would have loved you. your a good boy and your good to me. you come visit me anytime" so i go every week to visit. love keith whitley!!
too many country music songs glamorize getting hammered these days, when we lose alot of great people to it. the music isnt country its trash. it has no substance. this guy was good, sad.
Its sad he died early, he wouldve been right up there with George Straight and Alan Jackson had he been able to put out more music. One of my uncles drank and smoked his self to death, and one that is in the process of doing it. Its sad to see a problem like that end a career like this. Of coarse ive never climbed that fence so i dont think bad of Whitley because everyone has a problem with something. But ive been to one too many funerals because of alcohol, and it WILL get you.
depression goes hand in hand with addiction, i believe. i am a recovering addict who has long battled depression, i know when i was using it was a frantic attempt to stay a little ahead of "the black dog". you think the alcohol, or narcotics, or whatever is going to make it all easier to live with, but it only compounds the great feelings of loss and pain deep in your soul. I lived through it, but it's a journey that never really ends. Many, like Keith, were not so luck.
This is my all time favorite song of this. He was such a talented songwriter. I loved listening to that deep voice. A troubled soul who lost his fight with the Devil.
the man was physically and mentally worn out . tryin to keep up concert dates. gettin home. drug and alcohol demons take a fast toll . theres a long list of great artists that checked out early its a damn shame. lets hope we can learn from this great singer how fragile we really are
Come on people live a little Keith Whitley was livin and maybe it wasnt perfect.Believe me nothing ever is .Yes you say he was an alcoholic!Well ok maybe he was didn't know the man personally.I would never hold that against him!Look at what he did in his life if 1/100000000000 people could do this then the world wouldnt be a bad place at all.If he wasn't Keith Whitley then he wouldn't be Keith Whitley let the man rest in peace because he sang these songs for you and me AMEN
I am a huge Keith Whitley fan, 26 years old and miss him and his music terribly. It saddens me that so many of the folks who for whatever reason hate Lorri Morgan decide to say that she somehow 'turned Keith into a drunk' and other nonsense. First off, if you know anything about Keith Whitley, you would know he was an alcoholic long before he ever met Lorri Morgan. Part of Keith's problem was Keith's fault, but not all of it. He had a problem, he needed help and didn't get it. He wasn't a bad
Let's argue about drugs and alcohol, k? Anyway, this is someone whose music inspired me, lifted me and helped me though some bad times. I can't say that about every band I've worked with or heard live. RIP
keith looked like he was arguing with lori before he went on stage. his whole demeaner in this video if you look at his eyes. you can tell somethin is goin on with him. he looked sad mad. i been there a time or 2.
@lambet2 okay, just to clarify, alcohol is a drug, they are all drugs, pills, liquor, injections, whatever, and this comes from an old lady who used for 15 yrs, relapsed 3 times and now, hopefully, am back on the track....but, don't ever believe, just because it's legal, that liquor, and prescription stuff, won't kill you. we have too many examples of that....

I agree with bowlin3483 Country music ust is not the same, it may be the coming of the times but you just can't beat the steel guitar and some of the vocals of the older country music singers.

This has always been my favorite Keith Whitley song. Listen to that beautiful even rhythm with his great understated voice. Most modern so-called country music sounds uneven, choppy, too electrified, and not enough sweet, steel guitar, like hard rock with a southern accent. If I want that I'll listen to classic rock. We miss Keith.
This is such an awesome song. KW we miss you. I bet he is rolling over in his grave, because of the crap they pass of as country on the radio today. sad sad sad

@bowlin3483 - interesting comment and true from your young perspective. I and millions of others LOVED this sound back then, yet this was part of a style called crossover or 'pop' country - it had a much more upbeat sound and frequently used a bossa nova beat to achieve that.
This is 'classic' country for me, too, yet 'purists' of country hated this sound for not being 'true' to what country had been up until about 1975.
It's complicated as we listen through the ears of different times!
So true, THIS is real country music to us, the children of the 80's. But I remember my grandfather hated this new stuff, especially Garth Brooks when he first came out.
@bowlin3483, I agree, I'm 15 and its shit what they play now. Its too bad that people don't realize the good music, the original country that should've stayed
@bowlin3483 If the new counrty was a little southern rock, I wouldnt have a problem. But, it sounds more like Pop and rap, and gay ass boy bands like the rectal faggs (rascal flatts) and those wastes of space big and rich and their butt buddy fag boy troy. Someone needs to shoot the talent scouts for country and find some new ones that dont have their heads shoved up their asses.
@bowlin3483 couldnt agree anymore im 14 and love the 90s country, now its it aint worth anything. All we need is george strait, traviss tritt, neal mcoy, brooks and dunn, garth brooks, shenadoah, and of course keith whitly and all the other 90s.
@bowlin3483 my friend, i am so happy to hear a young person (i am an old lady, 54!!) who realizes what good music is...there isn't much of it in country now....and i don't even call it country....i was born and raised in TX and grew up with real country...Waylon and Jerry Jeff and, my hero for so many reasons, Steve Earle...check him out, too, and his son, Justin Townes Earle, is another great talent and Joe Pug....well, there is sitll hope for good music, hang in there....
@bowlin3483 i was just having a conversation with my grandpa about how sad it is that kids your age dont know about the greats like keith, and lorrie morgan, and so on... thank you for proving me wrong!! there is hope after all!! lol
Wow I've always heard the duet of "When you say nothing at all," with Allison Krauss, and after doing research about him, and listening to his singles, oh my god. His voice is probably past George Strait in my opinion. Wow powerful voice, and great lyrics. I can't believe his death so soon, due to alcoholism. RIP Keith, your a complete beast on vocals man.
Every time I see Lori Morgan I want to slap her across the face. Ever notice how every song she did back then was "I'm Leav'n" or '"I've Had it" (U get the idea) and he's singing "Tell Lori I Lover Her" and songs like this? I hate her.
actually he told in some interviews that he drinks sometimes before a performance because of his stagefright. At 1:03 and 1:46 u can really tell. Hell i wouldve too, i hate gettin in front of people. Loved the guy and his music, miss him
Missing Keith Whitley........This man could sing! This is what country should be like. Story telling and folk songs! Bring old country back!

This was to me true country music. I am only 29 years old, and this is what I call country music. Keith will be missed.

Loved the guy and his music, miss him
freebird97hd 2 years ago
No it was probably the spot lights. Kieth loved his fans way too much to give a performance after doing that.
