I too would like an easy way to identify someone devoted to logical honesty that I might otherwise miss in a sea of logic cheats. But I think a formal symbol is the wrong way, for numerous reasons I'm sure are already listed. Rather than one formal symbol, I think we should be looking for numerous helpful shibboleths. In a way, we already have some (I.P.U., flying spaghetti monster). But these are even used by the merely apatheistic and religious to specifically mock creationism or literalism.
Just another way for antitheists to proseletyze and attempt to spread their belief system. I'm more convinced than ever that rabid godlessness is indeed a religion. It worshipers certainly seem to rely heavily on one another and view themselves as belonging together in a unified sense. Reminds me of Aryan groups a bit. Perhaps that's because what they are unified in is negative in embodiment and manifests as hatred rather than tolerance.
atheist symbol? atheism is getting very organised be careful or it will become a religion in itself instead of a educated point of view i thought it was.
and then I realised, that to symbolise nothing, is to defeat the purpose. we don't stand behind anything, we have no cohesion, and don't need to be reminded of our lack. how could we symbolise anything? we are not commited by autodetermination to anything, we make our own choices and decisions, so how does a symbol encompass that which has no form? no structure? no building and no ideology? i suppose the only thing to encompass, is rejection of ignorance, right?
Review your concepts. Atheism is merely the lack of belief in gods. Atheists in general are as moral, loving, tolerant, honest as anyone. They just base those values on things other than gods.
coolbreeze - Hi I'm Joe. I'm a friendly Atheist living in the United States of America. I'd like you to know that we Atheists are actually mostly real nice people - just like the rest of humanity. I'd love to meet you at an Atheist group meeting here in Texas sometime. I'm sure you'll come away saying that we Atheists are okay afterall.
coolbreeze - Yes, they say that, but if you want to get to know real Atheists, you'll probably want to talk to one who's still alive. Plus you might want to talk to one who didn't believe in a god - himself even.
Well we don't want to be gods. Godism is bad. That's why we're Atheists. All of those dictators had one simple thing in common: they were man-gods on Earth, in their minds, and/or to the program they enforced on people. It doesn't make a god exist and it doesn't make Atheism evil. It just means that some people want to be treated like gods, and that ain't Atheism.

Dead I am the one, Exterminating Son of God
Slipping through the trees, strangling atheistic gerbelese
Dead I am the sky, watching angels cry
As they slowly turn, conquering the atheist worm

That is, to me, an appropriate symbol of an ATHEISTARD,
It is the universal symbol of A BROKE DICKED DOG,
what better symbol for an atheistard could there possibly be?
Good job!

just for clarification, why this symbol? no flaming A? no naked women with the words "there is no god." above her?

A question mark seems like a symbol of agnosticism. I'm not unsure about my Atheism, or the scam of religion. There's no question about it, now.

I am sorry, but Atheism is the symbol of hatred, intolerance, barbarity, and dishonesty. I am so sorry, but it is true.

Well, they say that Stalin was very well mannered and a great host. Somebody you warmed up to as you got to know him better.
But I recon I'll pass on that. Thanks anyways.

Hi Joe. The problem, as you readily admit, is that Atheism makes people gods unto themselves.
Perhaps I should talk with Pol Pot, or Mao Ze Dong or visit North Korea to see what freedoms Atheism reaps.
Still, think I'll take a pass. Thanks all the same.
