They should have made a longer pause after Max finishes his monologue and that what's her name starts talking! Otherwise it's fantastic! I saw just about every film Max was in yet his character in Needful Things is my absolute favorite. One of three greatest Devil/Satan movie characters: Al Pacino, Jeff Goldblum in Mister Frost (1990) and the eternal Max Von Sydow as Leland Gaunt. P.S. thanks for the klip, my Skyrim version is fucked up so i can't hear Esbern's voice at all!
Max Von Sydow, this is the legendary actor from The Exorcist as Raptor3946 pointed out. He was also in the recent 2010 Robin Hood with Russell Crow. I also absolutely loved his character from "Minority Report", playing the crooked police chief in charge of Precrime who was out to get John Anderton(played by Tom Cruise).
@Raptor3946 Yep, indeed....the guy is amazing, he doesn't seem to age! I can't believe the Exorcist came out in 1973, almost FORTY years ago! You're absolutely right about him being a legend. I wonder how many gamers even bother to find out about the actors who play the voices? Because they got a real gem, and a true acting genius when they picked Von Sydow's voice for this fantasy game. I first heard the voice when I reached Esbern in the Undercity, recognized it almost instantly!
I was just playing the game and I ran into Esbern and I said - "THAT'S MAX VON SYDOW!" He is such a great actor and it floored me to hear his voice in the game.
If you ever get a chance, watch Pelle the Conquerer.
@methyou I had the same exact experience about an hour ago! Was down in those sewers and met Esbern throught the slot in the door....he started talking and I said the same thing..."It's MAX VON SYDOW!". I was already totally loving this game before I ran into Esbern, but now hearing Von Sydow's voice gracing the world of the Elder Scrolls, I'm REALLY loving it! Just a perfect voice to choose for epic storytelling.
@K4inan I'm not Swedish and wouldn't guess this person was if I didn't already know. I can't place the accent at all, it's just unique to me. The Wizard in Dragonsreach though.. probably the most typical Swedish accent in the game.

I remember running up to them to tell them about my meeting with the Greybeards, and his speech stopped my in my tracks.
Very rarely will I have the patience to listen to long monologues. This was quite the unexpected pleasure.
