  • the Myanmar worst disaster in history. 100.000. died.

  • Does anyone even know what The young turks means, it was the name for the turkish goverment thaught slaughtered millions of Armenian's just because they were Christian

  • The Myanmar (stolen) government of BURMA, will suffer some severe consequences. Don't think for one moment that even their 'devoted puppet militia' will allow their families to suffer by not getting the aid pouring in from other countries... now all we need is a few BRAVE soldiers to start a REVOLUTION ! ... and get that JUNTA the FU** out of there !!!!

  • where did he bring up Iraq? secondly worthless? talking about lives, he was speaking about Katrina dumbass. And yeah the U.N. is hopefully goign 2 get some relief

  • what planet of insanity are you from?

    meant with love, lol

  • "These people need help and the U.N is trying to get supplies there."

The U.N. is complete useless. They even refuse to discuss the issue in the security council,

cause the chinese fashist regime holds their hands over the burmese junta.

  • thats funny because remember how the bush administration wouldn't accept help from cuba during katrina? i guess bush has something in common with evil dictators

  • what a stupid comparison, cuba depends on the billions of dollar that the cuban exiles sent to cuba. The U.S. doesn't need help from a country that it's people barely survives

  • does cuba depend on the trade embargo too?

and apparently the US does in fact need help from a country that barely survives, because katrina proved the US government is either unwilling or unable to help its own people, and is too proud to accept help from a barely surviving country.

  • I agree. What a mess but a mess made worse by a paranoid and overbearing government.

  • About that last part...WORD!!!

  • If USA so willing to help, What about preemptive action for relief attempt?

Causality number may be wrong but US wanted to give high number I guess.

What about Iraqi casualties, Does US government give correct number ?

Mianmar government willing to accept aids but not people from other government I guess.

Why US not willing to use UN for this. UN is not only for security council resolution before go to war relief work too?

  • About Iraq.

No they don't the "body count" project is only people reported dead, people buried, most people don't afford to bury their relatives with the government because it cost them their entire fortune.

The US figure is at 80 000 or something, the real figure done by the UN standards show numbers ranging from 500 000 to 800 000.

I think the US is afraid of giving any power to the UN, cause if they enected war-law courts Bush and many others would be punished by international law.

  • The problem with pre-emptive actions to help people from starving, or getting killed, or just from natural disasters is that it is illegal by international law.

Yes, it is that silly, it's because human rights does not negate the laws of international discourt and war, it's ridiculous really. It makes it illegal to save people from getting slaughtered, it makes you think... what is the UN for really? the security of the people, or of the nations?

  • That's a common misconception. The UN is for nations not people. The UN mission was based on older Wilsonian vision of preventing the next World War by giving a common, openair platform for all nations of the world to vent and horsetrade. It doesn't have a core mission of changing the world or making it a better place, except insofar as to increase stability to avoid the next war. That's why it's so reluctant for it to interfere in internal affairs of nations: outside of UN core culture.

  • Funny how the Myanmar government can have the streets flooded with soldiers to crack down on protesters but can't get the soldiers mobilized when the people are suffering and dying.

  • Sounds like the US in a way. :P

  • Perhaps it's a crappy economy due to the belief that 'caretakers from above' (like a government) should take action rather than the people taking action.

In the States, where we once believed in people over government, we have a strong economy - and that more than anything any government could ever do, is what keeps death tolls from such disasters low.

  • high ranking politician refuses to get help to his people because they might lose power.... you're sure his name isn't Bush or his friend, the moonwalking bear, McCain

  • zomg
