He's right about the Klitschko lack of appeal in the States. We don't take kindly to non Americans dominating the HW division. They get no respect from us in here in America. Frankly, it's becoming quite an embarrassment. We can't produce anyone who can beat them, so it's time to acknowledge our place in the pecking order. That's always the first step in correcting an issue; admitting that there is an issue! And take it from there. Whining, complaining & insulting the "weak" era is sour grapes.
I like the Russians , Polish , Ukraine fighters, it may not be a circus show .But,the fight is there for all the rounds. This is the difference in American fighters. Had all the great fights of gone to the knock out , history books would be written different I don't think any American heavy-weight can go the the distance and win against the Russians Ukraine Polish fighters.

Vitali never got knocked out and never lost by points, without his two injuries he would have been undefeated in 46 Fights. Hes 40! years old and defended his title easy like taking out the trash. Tyson had more talent, but its him who isnt in the Klitschkos league cuz he completely wasted it.

@jedigujjar01 I wouldn't say that boxing is only for blacks but the current champions have become very cautious do very little in the way of boxing, i.e. Wlad grabs & holds you when necessary, lean on you until you are exhausted, then keeps his left hand extended that you cant reach him if you are a shorter fighter. tyson has got it spot on here, klitschkos are good solid fighters but they certainly will not go down in the list of the greatest heavyweight champions, we need another tyson, Ali, frazier etc to shake up the division and make it what it once was, atm the lower divisions are by far the most competitive and exciting.

Wladimir lost to Corrie Sanders, and is always fighting boxers, not punchers. He ducked a rematch with Sanders.

@smokeyvelvet42 Actually, I started boxing (eons ago) at Welterweight, and quit at Middleweight after a car accident. I've been coaching boxing for the better part of 15 years - so, respect for your fighting experience, and apologies for misjudging you. I just disagree about defense being boring. One of the kids I coached was 230 lbs, and he was always trying to KO everyone. He would win, win, lose, win, lose... Once I got him to focus on defense and counter-punching, he won consistently.
@MrBudcole Many (if not most) of the kids who come to the gym have tremendous attitudes, and severely overestimate their own "badness". Lots of them quit very early on, after they face a couple sparring opponents with a little talent and maturity. That's the basis for my "flash-and-trash" comment - which I use frequently. Attitude is OK, but it should come AFTER accomplishment - not before.
For the record, I'm far less impressed with Wlad than I am with Vitali. Vit is a tough S.O.B.

If I have to lean on my opponent and literally push him to the canvas, then there is something wrong, either I have a problem of how to deal with my opponent through boxing skills or I have a condition problem. Watch Wlads fights against, Brock, Thompson, Chambers, Brewster, Peters, Haye, they all follow the same disgusting pattern you know that leaning on your opponent is not tolerated. by a good referee
@MrBudcole Dont get me wrong all boxers clinch & is sometimes necessary in order to regain your composure as well as give you a little time to breath, or if you are on the verge of getting in some serious trouble i.e. a KO for example but Wlad does this all through the fight, with his height, weight, reach advantage that can cause his opponents to tire & become exhausted. Peters vs Wald was a prime example.It is tolerated & condoned in Germany unfortunately for Wladimir.

Tyson was very good no doubt, but he lost to the other greats of his generation - Lewis and Holyfield. He never fought Foreman and Bowe and he lost to some people he shouldn't have lost to. Other than that the Vitali-Lennox fight was a good stoppage. That could have been a career-ending injury and it's not worth risking your career for one fight.
@bluekr2n Naaaah, look at Tyson's losses - he lost to tall outfighters with good jabs. Tyson-Vlad is a very close fight because Vlad has had trouble with punchers who push the pace. But Vitali is a stylistical nightmare for Tyson, just like Foreman. Big and strong and pushes you away any time you try to get on the inside.

He's right about the Klitschko lack of appeal in the States. We don't take kindly to non Americans dominating the HW division. They get no respect from us in here in America. I've been coaching boxing for the better part of 15 years - so, respect for your fighting experience, and apologies for misjudging you. I just disagree about defense being boring. One of the kids I coached was 230 lbs, and he was always trying to KO everyone. He would win, win, lose, win, lose... Once I got him to focus on defense and counter-punching, he won consistently.

Lots of them quit very early on, after they face a couple sparring opponents with a little talent and maturity. That's the basis for my "flash-and-trash" comment - which I use frequently. Attitude is OK, but it should come AFTER accomplishment - not before.
For the record, I'm far less impressed with Wlad than I am with Vitali. Vit is a tough S.O.B.

If I have to lean on my opponent and literally push him to the canvas, then there is something wrong, either I have a problem of how to deal with my opponent through boxing skills or I have a condition problem. Watch Wlads fights against, Brock, Thompson, Chambers, Brewster, Peters, Haye, they all follow the same disgusting pattern you know that leaning on your opponent is not tolerated. by a good referee

@MrBudcole Dont get me wrong all boxers clinch & is sometimes necessary in order to regain your composure as well as give you a little time to breath, or if you are on the verge of getting in some serious trouble i.e. a KO for example but Wlad does this all through the fight, with his height, weight, reach advantage that can cause his opponents to tire & become exhausted. Peters vs Wald was a prime example.It is tolerated & condoned in Germany unfortunately for Wladimir.

If you can make $10 million VS an easy opponent, or $5 million VS a hard one, most fighters will take the easy fight/big payday. @MrConnolly25 OK, the Valuev who fought Holyfield has no chance VS either Klit. Val is too easy to hit, Klits hit too hard & they would pick him to pieces, especially VS the Wlad who fought Lewis. But if the Vitali who lost to Corry Sanders showed up, & it turned into a wrestling match, I can see Val totally sapping his stamina & beating him by if nothing else, exhaustion. I don't know man. Val is maybe a bit better than I gave him credit for. He'd have a chance @ least.

I agree with you that they should give Valuev a little bit more credit then what is given him. He weighs a 150 Kilos and has a height of 2 meters 17 so he wouldn't be that easy to move around the ring for the Klischkos especially Wlad, who tires very quickly when put under relentless pressure.

@MrConnolly25 After being knocked out three times, Brewster, Sanders, Puritty Wlad had to do something to account for his short comings i.e. he knows that he is vulnerable for a knock out when the his opponents disrespect him in the ring i.e Sanders. So he has resorted to wrestling to exhaust his opponents, this is not only tolerated but condoned on his behalf in Germany. That is why he will not fight outside of Germany for that simple reason. If he loses you have fight Vitali :-(

@BustersTexas People who say Tyson is the best usually only know two names in boxing - Tyson and Ali. Tyson was very good no doubt, but he lost to the other greats of his generation - Lewis and Holyfield. He never fought Foreman and Bowe and he lost to some people he shouldn't have lost to. Other than that the Vitali-Lennox fight was a good stoppage. That could have been a career-ending injury and it's not worth risking your career for one fight.

@bluekr2n Naaaah, look at Tyson's losses - he lost to tall outfighters with good jabs. Tyson-Vlad is a very close fight because Vlad has had trouble with punchers who push the pace. But Vitali is a stylistical nightmare for Tyson, just like Foreman. Big and strong and pushes you away any time you try to get on the inside.
