This ballad is beautiful and thank you for posting it. I also have a cd of Harry Secombe's songs and he sings this ballad. His version is also beautiful.
Ervin Drake will be remembered for two songs closely associated with Perry, his 1953 recording "I Believe" and the 1967 single "The Father of Girls" ... quoted out of a family book that David Drakes dad's cousin Joan (Drake) White wrote ...
The song was originally written by Perry Como. It's SO beautiful! I grew up listening to my dad's CDs (but before that, tapes & records) of Mr. Como.
@justjudi2003 Found it!! I tried to cut copy & paste the link but couldn't for some reason. But put Perry Como-The Father Of Girls in the You Tube search engine & someone that has the video "In Memory Of Dad" has it. It's DEFINITELY Perry Como!!:-)
When my wife was expecting our first child I was convinced that it was going to be a boy; but while listening to the Perry Commo version on the radio at work I had my first doubts, and true to form my daughter was born (a week early) by ceasarian that very day. I was blessed but it is true: girls are more of a worry than boys.
This is great - thanks. This song was written (and originally performed) by Neil Sedaka. His version will bring tears to your eyes if you're a father.

I wrote a parody. When there is a threat of a cold, you worry...
When there is a threat of the flu, you do more than that, you pray.
Pray that we don't get swine flu,
Or any kind of flu,
Pray that we don't get the flu at all,
When there is a threat of a cold, you worry,
But when there is a threat of the flu, you do more than that, you pray.
(My parody "Pray That We Don't Get The Flu")
I love Perry's version of The Father of Girls, by the way.

This song is SO beautiful. And so is your daughter. Why would 'susanB17' want Neil Sedaka's version when she could have yours?
