My personal opinion is that these extremely large dogs need to be monitored closely around smaller pets. They can easily hurt them. We have a boerboel and he came into a family with a decent size lab/pit mix who weighed about 70lbs and now the boerboel is 140 lbs at only 11 months old, he is just too playful and has already hurt our lab/pit. They may get along, but just playing together will be questionable because of size difference. Just my opinion.
Sooo when you pet the Dachshund, you were reinforcing that behaviour. By petting him at that time, you said, "Good job! Keep acting that way!" It looked like the Boerboel was just trying to let the Dachshund sniff its butt - thats how dogs get to know each other
I have a very large bulldog that uses the same hip bump type of tactic. He actually looks like a Boerboel with a bully face. They use the hips as a friendly bump as well as play and defense tactics. It's always extra nice when they wipe a dirty butt on your new pants. We always wipe our guy when he comes in from outside now. He allows it and holds still as a statue. Gotta love them!
i posted the video of my boerboels playing :) they are such cute dogs ... altough my boy wieghs 152 at 10months.. the boy is a big big boy ... i love boerboels :) and your boerboel is very cute ! i remember mine at that age ... soooooo cute
thats weird that doxies can do that. (if it really happens) my mini doxie really loves my boerboel. they both lick each other in the face and play tug o war and stuff...
Ah. Just curious. I have read that doxies are known to kill other dogs, that people will get a new dog, think things are fine with the dachshund, then come home one day to find the new dog dead. In your case, Cooper will be quite a bit bigger, but we have a doxie, Daisy, and she is nasty no matter what size the other dog is.
I have seen that move before. my boerboel does it at the dog park when he is being chased by other dogs. wait intill he does it in full stride and hip check a smaller dog it is quite amusing. nice dog keep up the videos I would like to watch he grow up. thats whats great about youtube

Haha, Our dobermann does the samething to, but she spins around, Search for "Dobermann rhana barking" and you will see it about 15 sec in the vid

LMAO Our Boerboel does the exact same thing with our Mini Schnauzer! Duke (the mini) absolutely hates it but they love to go at it :D

Boerboels are the most awesome dogs ever, my son just lost his to a blood clot after surgery, and the pain just will not stop. enjoy him.
