Thanks for the question Joey. you're the first to ask this. The best answer to this is that when the bearded man leaves, he is "leaving it all behind." The song deals with stasis and the inner crisis of an artist. The multiple bearded men represent the multiple facets of an individual. In the end, the stronger personality decides it's time to leave and departs leaving the weaker facets of his personality and all personal baggage behind.

I saw Doug open for Matt Costa this past May at HOB Dallas. I made a joke with him about keeping the set list after his show, not knowing who he was. I thought he was some roadie, but then I saw him and who I later learned was Glen Farris go on stage and start playing with absolutely no introduction. Both are great, modest guys. I immediately ran from the front row to the merch stand to buy Doug's album after the show. Great night.
