  • fixed positioning is realy useful, if you have a footer and want to display it all the time, on the verry bottom on your website.

  • but ummmm do shut

  • a good example of fixed positioning is the header on facebook

  • the fixed positioning is useful in some cases ... it's like the YouTube button on the Google+ page...... thanks Bucky for all your tutorials they are very helpful.

  • theres more things you can do with fixed position other then a fake scratch on the screen lol ... like some annoying advertisements fixed on the side of the screen so when you scroll well yea you get it theres that and you could also have a fixed header with nav bar to stay up top for a really large website that need to scroll half a mile down screen (that would probably be good for blogs with tons of stuff) or maybe a logo thats fixed or bounching around but thats more complicated but possible

  • @lookkool3 exactly, that's what i thought and what I want to do with the website i am trying to build. an ad to the right of the whole page. (i have a store... and the ad would be for my own products... or sales actions). i believe the term in online advertising is skyscaper ad. i'm experimentig with it and giving it a lower z-index, so when you reduce your page in width it wouldn't go over the main content, but underneath (or a bit visible), and when the page is wide enough: float to the right.

  • Bucky, that is a brilliant idea. I'm going to add that gray mark on all my websites ;P

  • Facebook

  • some times you just gotta love the humor in your tutorials bucky.

its also one reason why i watch your tutorials.

  • lol before u said it was the box i was trying to wipe my screen

  • I used this once for a client who wanted a video of himself to pop up onto the page and talk about his site. btw, great tuts Bucky!

  • This is done a lot for toolbars and navigation bars and such. So I guess it has its uses.

  • Comment removed

  • Btw, some websites do this for navigation bars or small advertisement, usually on the very top of the page

  • css3 is certainly great. Bucky makes it xhtml so that it is compatible with all browsers =)

  • thank you mate was help alot

by the way which software are you using

i mean the one you typing in it

  • @marwanENGLAND notepad ++

  • rofl that dot :]

  • LMFAO at the dot on the screen thing... might just throw that into every website i ever create :D

  • \That mctuna joke i actually burst out laughing!!!!!!! Youre kill

  • it's useful if you have a banner and sidepanels that you wanna stay.

  • @Deadwolf9494 Well, you probably shouldn't want those to stay because users don't want those to stay.

  • @joecapps1127 I think that facebook was written in PHP which means that they wouldn't have used the fixed positioning method, and after taking a look at their source code it shows that they use relative postioning. :) go to facebook and view the source by right clicking and then clicking view source, then look at the end of line 14. The chat is coded in javascript :).

  • Fixed could be really helpful. It's probably how they made the chat bar at the bottom of Facebook

  • i used fixed positioning to backgrounds and sometimes to nav bars

  • Totally using this to put a huge bug-on-screen gif over EVERY PAGE.

  • how about use it for fixed page background?

  • like for the fake scratch XD

  • wow...perfect to piss off people lol

  • i know where they use position:fixed , in annoying surveys?

  • Bucky, you should have gone through background images in the fixed positioning tutorial. Now that is honestly the only reason besides your scratch prank that fixed positioning is good for

  • when you make an ad on your webpage, you may want to use the fixed positioning. I guess

  • now I have a craving for a mctuna

  • I don't even think bucky knos css3 and html5 but then again he seems to know everything

  • i think this page is commonly used for spam ads

  • @Mahiz96

  • Metallica! <3

  • you give me so much jokes bucky jajajaja, thanks for the tutorials!

  • scratch on the screen funny lmao

  • Comment removed

  • Really ? That's the only reason you can come up with, to be a dickhead ?

How about a background image that stays put, no matter where you are on page ?

Maybe some dancers doing the tango or something, for a site about dance lessons.??

  • I assume this is what is used for Facebook Chat, as when you scroll down or up it sticks at the bottom of your page.

  • or you could use it for a to top or a shopping cart etc. >.>

  • Yes, yes i have seen i sight that has this usually someone trying to sell me something though

  • Interesting way of putting this tutorial together, but I've seen many ways of how to use fixed positioning and they're very interesting too. Great tutorial

  • Spam uses Fixed Positioning XD !!!

  • Some ads use fixed and you can use this for a, " back to top" link that stays fixed

  • Actually I kinda liked the song in the beginning :D

Those make your tutorials more interesting.

  • thanks for the new pack of tuts... improbably useful set

  • so what's the difference between fixed and absolute?

  • Hey Bucky What about making menu buttons with fixed positioning, If you scroll down and need to go to another webpage you have to scroll back up to click the menu link, but with fixed positioning is it possible to avoid this and have it on your screen at all times. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE WITH FIXED POSITIONING?

Anyway XHTML taught with CSS I think is a must and am enjoying these video tutorials much more than the old ones.

Keep up the good work and thanks mate

English accent sucks by the way

  • @gregonthebox Yup, you can do this with menus, that's what twitter does actually.

  • oO i've got this weird scratch all of the sudden on my screen :/

    Thanks Bucky!! :)D

  • 10x 10x 10x very much

  • you can use fixed for your background image

    that looks great

  • After html you should make tutoriasl about, CSS 3, gradients , transitions, transparency

....CSS 3 has so many powers...It can change the whole feeling of your site

  • @blueprint7000 I'm totalyu agree with you.Some tuts for CSS3 and Html 5 will be awesome !
