Esperanto actually used to be considered on of the universal languages (like English and French), but it never really caught on. It has Latin roots, and sounds a lot like Italian, but there are different accents and it has a 28 (I think) letter alphabet. But as of now, it's considered a dead language, and there are only a fraction of the people in the world that are actual fluent in it.
