i think it's not a problem with the touch screen...

the way it reacts... maybe it's not even multi touch, there's an algorithm that simulates multi touch by comparing the point of the first touch and the second touch

in a single touch screen, the point slides to the center of the 2 places being touched, the algorithm duplicates that distance, that's where the screen is being touched

The HP touchsmart series uses a passive touch screen, essentially, it's two pieces of glass, and when they you touch the top one, it bumps the other one sending a signal telling the computer where you touched it. If part of the screen is damaged, the mouse will jump there until you recalibrate the screen, that's probably what happened there. Not surprisingly, as it's a demo, and a lot of people are using it. That;s my understanding at least, correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I know all Touchsmart all-in-one PCs use optical touchscreens (as opposed to the resistive touchscreens you mentioned). Two cameras are inside the bezel and record every movement on the display. The technology is cheap, but sucks: it's dual-touch only and not very accurate.
