Love this piece, the original is one of my favourites from bear, but this stripped down, spontaneous version is beautiful to hear too. I remember I used the album version as a soundtrack to a short film for a university unit on film editing, and my tutors loved it. Keep up the amazing work, Bear!
Probably my single most favorite BSG piece. Just so amazing, the build up and everything. This piano version is great as well. There's a reason this song has the most plays on my Last>FM page...
I feel I should add this (a comment from the non-piano version on YT):
"I am the Progenitor of Life, the Harbinger of Death. I soar on the solar winds and feel the heat from radiation of the stars on my skin. I breathe nebulas, and see cosmic rays. I sample comets and brush aside asteroids. I love no one and fear none. The universe is my playground, my home. You can not understand me and I do not recognize you. Something dark is coming but with it comes the dawn."
this is one one of my favourite, it is so mysterious. it makes me think of the creation of everything, creation of the universe. you are wonderful Bear McCreary! thank you for your existence!!!!!
Thank you to whoever mixed the original version in the studio for making it super easy for me to remove the bass, leaving the drums behind. I'm working on mixing the piano version with the drums into a looping version that will seemingly never end, and it will be my relaxation song for the rest of eternity.
@peter1592 I ended up not being able to get the drums to sync with the piano very well. I made a looping version but I don't think I can upload it to YouTube because it's a 1hr long track. iTunes doesn't play well with loops... there's always a pause between the beginning and the end, so I just stitched it together several times in Audacity.
@TARDISdm64 This cant even be expressed, not in words not in symbols not in anaything else... The music tells us everything and if where about to express this in words you would need ten generations to do so.
remember...the main BSG theme has a Hindu prayer hidden in it....so go ahead and enjoy the music..but remember it could lead you into believing another weird religion!
@HisDivineShadow245 doesn't keep them from humming it without really knowing what it means....it's little too much of a subliminal weapon for my taste
@StuartTheGamerNerd And how exactly would that get people believing in a "weird religion" if they don't know what it means? I belt out the lyrics to the Apocalypse track in my car and I am still an atheist. I think your fears are premature.
This is one of my absolute favorites from the whole series. Many times I've listened to it walking to and from classes, as the sun is setting over Monterey bay and the colors of the day are fading, and I'm alone with my thoughts, being lifted into a profound sort of trance by the sounds the violin and base and drums and a bunch of instruments I can't name . Those moments mean quite a lot to me. Your music is wonderful.
You have changed my life with your music, rekindled my interest in pursuing engineering in univeristy to oneday work to advance space technology for humanity.. I humbly thank you for giving me my purpose.
Bear, is there any chance we could get MP3s or even losslesses (ideally both) of these videos? I feel so dirty every time I rip the audio off one of them, but it's the only way to take it with me when I go out.
SciFi music has always been so important to the genre. You have raised the bar even further than it was. This is a beautiful piece. Added to my playlist!
