I was happy Glen Wesley got a chance to hold the cup for Carolina, because he was a great player for the Bruins for a long time, the Ironic thing is that in the 90 cup finals for the Bruins(against Edmonton.) In the 1st game of the series, he missed a wide open net which could have won the first game.

They were getting owned by Montreal until the Koivu high stick took the captian out of the playoffs, Buffalo's defence was decimated by injuries with 4 out of the top 6 gone. and the Oilers were without their starting goalie, who was the player who got them to the Stanley Cup finals.
I'm still amazed at how many people use the "Oilers were without their starting goalie" excuse, Cam Ward was Carolina's back-up and had about 25 games of NHL experience. You make some good points but people forget how good the 'Canes were that year, 52 wins and 6 20+ goal scorers is no fluke
1) Carolina had a good year but they were playing in what was arguably (the Central was also pretty bad) the worst Division in the NHL at the time
2) Cam Ward was a 1st Round Draft pick who was one of the best goalies in Junior Hockey and twice led Red Deer to the WHL finals. Jussi Markkanen was a 5th Round Draft pick and durring the regular season he and Conklin were the main reasons why the Oilers barely made the playoffs.
3) I said the Hurricanes had a good team, but they had alot of luck.
@razoramon989 It still took Carolina 7 games to beat a team with their 3rd string goalie playing, it took em 7 to beat Buffalo who was missing 4 of their top 6 defensemen and 2 wingers. The 2006 Carolina team got all the breaks that playoff year.
Plus not nearly as many people are passionate about the Carolina Hurricanes in Carolina compared to Oiler fans in Edmonton. ONLY 5000 fans celebrated compared to 30000 plus in Edmonton. Copper and Blue!

They were getting owned by Montreal until the Koivu high stick took the captian out of the playoffs, Buffalo's defence was decimated by injuries with 4 out of the top 6 gone. and the Oilers were without their starting goalie, who was the player who got them to the Stanley Cup finals.

I'm still amazed at how many people use the "Oilers were without their starting goalie" excuse, Cam Ward was Carolina's back-up and had about 25 games of NHL experience. You make some good points but people forget how good the 'Canes were that year, 52 wins and 6 20+ goal scorers is no fluke

1) Carolina had a good year but they were playing in what was arguably (the Central was also pretty bad) the worst Division in the NHL at the time
2) Cam Ward was a 1st Round Draft pick who was one of the best goalies in Junior Hockey and twice led Red Deer to the WHL finals. Jussi Markkanen was a 5th Round Draft pick and durring the regular season he and Conklin were the main reasons why the Oilers barely made the playoffs.
3) I said the Hurricanes had a good team, but they had alot of luck.

@razoramon989 It still took Carolina 7 games to beat a team with their 3rd string goalie playing, it took em 7 to beat Buffalo who was missing 4 of their top 6 defensemen and 2 wingers. The 2006 Carolina team got all the breaks that playoff year.
Plus not nearly as many people are passionate about the Carolina Hurricanes in Carolina compared to Oiler fans in Edmonton. ONLY 5000 fans celebrated compared to 30000 plus in Edmonton. Copper and Blue!

The Oilers should have had it. If Roloson didn't get injured the cup would have been ours in 6 games. Markaneen just wasn't a very good goalie and he played decent but he blew it for us in game 7. Damnit. Still a fun ride in 06 though. I will never forget it.
