Fantastic version, two GIANTS...Eric and Steve are absolutely brilliant and masters in their own right. Send chills down my spine with their guitarwork...i am in paradise.
i am a huge fan of eric... but i have tosay.... jst see the other version of this song in another CR fest, played by steve..... that is one of the best live versions i´ve seen in my life. this song is for steve
Sorry I missed the show at Madison Square Garden live.... but the DVD is great so I ended up not missing it really anyway... I was happy to know that they recorded the show...
Notice Eric is playing on Steve's guitar and Steve is on Erics Guitar Check out on you-tube Dear Mr fantasy in 1967 Santa Monica traffic live you will see a LSD Steve singing and palying this magical game
I met him in Kanazawa, Japan on Monday 11/28. We chatted for about 10 min. at a local store. We were the only customers. I told him that I was attending his show with Eric Clapton that very night. He is the nicest guy. What a wonderful experience! I shook his hand and told him had been my hero since I was a teenager (now 45). And the concert was as good as it gets.
Wow, like I am a fan of drummer Steve Gadd, but his rendition of this song absolutely sucked! I guess he paid tribute to the original recording and it was lame as well in regards to the drum track. The best drummer to ever cover this song with Steve Winwood was Walfredo Reyes Jr. who absolutely wails on this track!
eric is one of my all time heroes, but in the crossroads fest of 2007, steve played this one alone and his solo is AMAZING. At the end, the whole stadium stands up. This version is good but search the other one, that´s one of the best live acts I´ve seen
In their heyday Traffic, as a three piece, made time stand still with this song, still one of rock's most effective and brilliant solos....Clapton doesn't really stray much from Winwood's except for a few choice runs, but neither of them really burns the way Winwood did in his younger days playing the college ballrooms in the mid-West.
As much as I hate to say it Traffic was great in their heyday, but unfortunately this is better then the original... and I know Clapton was not apart of Traffic's line-up. But just imagine if he was lol...
I remember the 1st time I heard these 2 play this song, I think Clapton just learned it b/c his solo was kinda sucky. But this one is fucking awesome, he wrecked it!!
Steve Gadd brings more to the stage here than TWO drummers did in the 2007! Gadd's the perfect drummer for a GUITAR festival. His play is passionate and powerful but in the background where it should be - not competing for attention with the ax men.
For me, listening to this 2010 version is like feasting at a king's banquet. The 2007 version hardly rates more than eating dinner at the best of restaurants.
Great video! Thank you! from Tokyo...

♪♫♪Dear Mister Fantasy play us a tune ♪♫♪
Something to make us all happy
Do anything take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar
Make it snappy
You are the one who can make us all laugh
But doing that you break out in tears
Please don't be sad if it was a straight mind you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years
