i did not hear this song for a while, i had this dream about 2 turtles.one was small and regular, the other was walking upright and about 8 foot tall... i looked it up in dream dictionary. It said if you have dreams about them you will experience a spiritual awakening. Oh boy that did happen.each turtle ment something different. the one crawling was a slow one. The Big one walking fast and on 2 legs was what i was in for. I like turtles too. That dream was fun and kinda strange. God bless U
Every once in a while I'll turn this song on and it's always so special....When I listen to it I feel like I've been walking down the rail tracks for ever, but after coming round the bend BAM 02:36 I can see Terrapin Station on the horizon. Its hidden by trees but if you look hard enough it's there. A lot of people miss it. Upon arriving The air starts smelling sweet and the turtles are out dancing...waving there hands to come on over. Pretty soon I start dancing, haha yea me and the turtles.
1st time I heard this song I had Trolled for the 1st time. Ecstacy-acid mix. what a great night, I fell in love with a girl & watched the sun rise with that girl in a row boat makingout in the middle of a lake. that girl & the boat are gone, but the dead live on forever. Now my 9 year old son is starting to love this music. the dead will never die....
Sorry people..... my earlier comments are irrational and contain no truth whatsoever (except that THE DEAD are an exceptional band...If you were to come to my disclosed location, I would not harm a hair on your "DEAD" head. Please forgive me for being an a-hole....T'was a stupid comment and totally just venting...However, in the spirit of the DEAD, I may love you to death.

First time I saw them was in 67. They were called the Warlocks. A couple months later they changed their name to the Dead. Last time I saw them was at Shoreline in the south bay. A couple months later Garcia pulled the plug. Last California Concert. Saw just the two. The first and the last. Alpha and Omega.
although I was to young to see jerry perform my favorite song while I was growing up, I feel honored that I still have the chance to see further perform it.
@bonndiablo me too! Rest in Peace Jerry! I bought this album back in 1977 and just listened to this song after a long time......awesome...forgot how great it really was..
Best studio cut of anything they ever did, both music and the phenomenal lyrics. And live....Oh My GOD...that seeming endless coda to fadeout at the end that you wanted to last forever, as it just got better and better. So many memories....
i wish i could disable comments on all videos because you all say the dumbest shit to each other. just enjoy the god damn song.. what the fuck is wrong everybody?
This was the first dead song I heard. (somehow...) I remember it. 7 years ago in 9th grade, my brother had this on a burnt cd. Within months I was a full blown dead head, and remained so untill after my freshman year of college. Since then I've become more integrated, I lost the tye dyes and acid, but kept the music and eurb.
First time I heard this I was on the peak of Lysergic Mountain and was permanently destroyed. Happiest and scariest moment of my life... Love ya Jerry, you crazy fuck.
This is my favorite dead song. I got to see them in 1995, Soldier Field in Chicago. Their last concert. I can still remember 150,000 people singing Ripple together. He was the voice of the people. Peace. Love and a fat boy. ;) Pass it around.
i listen to this wearing my terrapin station shirt, in class (im 13) while all the football players sing wiz khalifa, and i find that this makes my day go alot better
@universalsolstice I can relate. I;m 27 now but when I was 13 I was listening to all this stuff and I loved to talk to the jocks about their crappy music. Knowing I had good taste in music and GREAT taste compared to so many in middle and high school I felt somehow better and I was able to not let the students I dispised get to me. Music is such a beautiful influence .
@rsohlich1 .....judging by your comment it looks like the beautiful influence of music has passed you by as you have a massive superiority complex, it's extremely immature to regard other peoples musical tastes as inferior to yours simply because they are not your tastes.............and i mean what is "good taste" ?.....it's a meaningless concept.
The masterpiece!!! The orchestration is amazing. I cooked many...too many...times while listening to this album. It gives me flashbacks just hearing the notes.
Saw them play in Cleveland in March 1993..Lady With a Fan into Terrapin. Did not know at the time how monumental it was until I looked at my best friend a minute later and saw tears streaming down her cheeks...that was my 9 out of 10 dead shows...last third of this one is new for me
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!! My favorite part starts @ 6:36. I remember tripping balls to this song back in the day. Even better LIVE !!!! God Bless!
@rowanpm Oh jeezus. I went to a Dead concert. Trippin' on shrooms. Cops came and got hippies with teargas. Then they all started running over the hill towards us. I looked back, and my boyfriend and friends dipped and ran. Never been more scared in my life.
Jerry conceived the idea for the song "Terrapin Part One" while driving across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. was originally released on July 27, 1977
Thank God for music like the grateful dead. I think that this is one of the best songs, peaceful, and I wish I had more of it in my life. Keep on groovin to those good jam-bands.
I went to see Furthur in Alpharetta GA July 3, 2011. Day before both mine and Jerry's Birthday. The band played this. My personal favorite Dead and Jerry song.
@JBlackrose I saw them in NYC last November. Second show. They covered time by Pink Floyd. I had friends come up from Georgia and jam with me. I'm only 19 but that was the best night of my life yet :)

lots of goodness here we are a very stressed out society and we all desire to be more harmonious like this song in our souls.think i'll go swimming in the lake with the dog on that note
@3nz0f3r -I agree..the Lyrics on this song are intense, and I love the simple way he sings it...no flash, but TONS of emotion...most especially on Lady with a fan. I can tell that he REALLY connects with the tune and like he says "Inspiration, move me brightly. Light this song with sense and color, hold away dispare." Truly EPIC, and blows away numerous modern bands with emotional power alone, not to mention the great production crew behind it. I consider this song to be the Opus of The Dead.
I've got a pond in the back of my property all summer long I've got frogs ,turtles and little gators hangin out in there - and every nite there is a serious frog concert! we call the place Terrapin Station
One of the few Dead songs that sounds better in the studio. My personal favorite tied with Uncle John's Band and Me and My Uncle. Just kidding about the MAMU part
wow first time checking out the studio verison after listening to many live versions many times...too me this verison on the album can come nowhere close to any live verison. such a different song on the
for me this is one of those songs that triggers memories you dont reallly remeber

@3nz0f3r I don't think Jerry ever wrote any lyrics, but he sure could talk up a storm.

Grew up with a father that was/is one of the biggest dead heads you'll ever hear of. Looking back I wish I could've been there to follow them.

One of the few Dead songs that sounds better in the studio. My personal favorite tied with Uncle John's Band and Me and My Uncle. Just kidding about the MAMU part
