No country is built up of superior beings, each has its own cultures its own advantages what made england powerfull is that it took over many countries so probably claimed many of the technological advantages of those countries and bearing in mind england has been inherited by a mix of cultures which without of doubt brought with them many advantages i.e saxons, romans, france
I'd say that much of the reason Europe as a whole but specially England advanced so much is the weather. In the tropical/forest areas, getting food and water was easy so humanity didn't have to improve itself much, in tougher areas of the globe it was more necessary to find solutions for the big problems. In human history, the best ideas came as answers to natural problems. Mesopotamia is the first example.

@godkingofthepunks most historially incorrect films ever. robert the bruce wasnt even alive at the same time as Wallace, and Wallace was a brutal murderer who killed men women and children. not a hero. also we were never conkered (sorry cant spell that<<) by the english, we signed 4 it, and i along with many scots are proud to say we and the english are the same and make the UK! is factual that william wallace did not fight to choose who took his freedom and make him live under rule he fought to keep his freedom as nobody was ruling him ! he fought to stay free and have nobody rule him ! NO RULERS !

No this is not a true speech from the real wallace himself, this film is an american production film. Therefore its going to be very corny and fake. This film makes the english look like evil monsters, to be fair the scots were far worse on how they treated their prisoners. One favourite method was that each scot gets hold of one of the prisoners limbs and the game was to see how quickly they could twist off the prisoner's limbs. Its true, trust me! just remeber this is american shite.

Its obvious that to be free you cant have people rule you - even though in the end they lost and now we live under rule at least they had a chance to fight for their freedom - we just take it, pay taxes and work for them....it is an aweful thing that we have lost the will to be free

@godkingofthepunks as soon as we get rid of republican, democrat, libertarian, green, conservative, liberal etc.. As soon as we get rid of these labels and understand we are all human wanting to be free, really free. We are too bogged down with baggage, cliches, reality tv, laziness, all deceiving media (FOX NEWS included), apathy, so on and so forth. ummm.....ok this was a great movie, no doubt!! But the facts are wrong.
1. William Wallace was a lowlander, he never wore a Kilt
2. The Princess of Wales was 10 years old at the time of WW so no love affair took place
3. They got the battles mixed up. This battle being fought was not the one he was victorious at. It was the battle where they say he got double-crossed
4. The Scots waited for the English to cross the bridge at sterling 2 wide. Very slowly! Then slaughtered them as they came off

@SocialNow Well said mate. This film is largely plagiarized from the Blind Harry poem which was written a hundred years after the event. As historians we know little of Wallace. People should be careful not to have their emotions manipulated by Hollywood and evil wife beating scum like Gibson. Nationalism is inherently totalitarian.
