The Dangers of Fluoroquinolones-Levaquin,Cipro, and others.

Levaquin took the athletic part of my twin daughters' lives from them. One developed tremors, the other involuntary muscle spasms. They still have constant tingling in their forearms. Their days of varsity volleyball, swimming and tennis are over due to Levaquin. I curse the day they were prescribed it and the doctor that foolishly prescribed it with a steroid when they were only 17 years old.

Antibiotics should be a last resort, specifically this class of drugs, and should you need to take them, stick with the older class drugs if possible such as Amoxicillin, or Zithromax. Please think twice before popping pills your Dr Prescribes you and ask ask ask lots of questions first.

i was walking 4 miles a day every day for years and when i was given levaquin 750 mg for 5 days, ended up in the ER thinking i was dying. felt like charlie horses in both legs for days, had to take opiates for that, now have frozen shoulder... i keep feeling as if i am going to die now, like fading out, hard to explain.. can't walk anymore, too painful... it turned my life upside down, i don't think i will ever be the same... these drugs are POISON.

I have a very mild case of it even though they did a number on me (INFUSIONS OF IT at the hospitals for 6 days and 10 days at 1000mg /d of ). I got off easy because I don't eat anything that has crap in it, i.e. I will only eat _unprocessed_ organic foods such as unprocessed fruit, vegetables, meats etc. and I was on a high vitamine regimen (see my first post) before they got me with it.

@breedfreely You forgot to add "Probiotics" to that list. They are an all natural alternative to antibiotics. I use them for maintenance, and when sick, double up on the dose and take 3 times a day. Just be sure to get high quality and look for the highest CFU (billions of bacteria) you can get.

I have been crippled for 9 months now due to Cipro. I was VERY healthy before... biking daily and going to the gym 3x per week. After one UTI I was given Cipro and now I can't even walk a quarter mile. Do not ever take an FQ!

I took Cipro for 10 days 8 months ago with adverse reactions; when I spoke to my doctor about the symptoms and by the look in his eyes he thought I was crazy. I am dealing with pain all over my body, reduced hearing, adverse taste, vision change, anxiety, foggy brain, skin rashes, frequent headaches, unclear thinking, neuropathy, and the list goes on. Socializing has become unbearable because I do not feel well on a daily basis and explaining my DAR to people is such a challenge.

I took Levaquin a few times in the last 4 years and had long lasting reactions also. The last time I took it after I had a respiratory infection the side effects never went away. I still suffer from increased pulse rate, insomnia, and other effects that cause me to be depleted. I have found that L-Theanine has helped me to get by day to day to deal with the stuff that continues to go on. L-Theanine is a amino acid that helps with the stress and has other effects that are not yet proven. =/,,

As a result I have partly lost sensation in both of my feet and have ligament sprain in other. I have lost strength in both of my feet and arms and suffer from extreme weakness and numbness. In addition I have arthritis in one of my knees. These can destroy the health of young completely healthy people. I guess I am lucky cause Norfloxacin caused symptoms very quickly. Who knows where I would be if the symptoms had appeared after the 10-day course of antibiotics.

My doctor prescribed me Norfloxacin (Noroxin in the US), which is one of the most toxic and high-risk fluoroquinones with only a few licenced use. I started having symptoms after 3 pills, but didn´t take it seriously and took 3 after the symptoms started.

i was put on cipro 18 months ago for uti infection that my doctor couldnt shift with the penicillins, i cannot believe i am reading the same thing about these quinolones,i have been left with tendon pain in both hands , lower back pain , and generally unwell in myself since takng cipro, i always check when i need antibiotics if they are quinolones as the cipro has destoyed my health and life ,, !!!1

Yes, these drugs are extremely toxic, and I have become one of their victims. These drugs need to be removed asap before thousands more are crippled by them.

MY concern is for the Military giving these very dangerous drugs to our children. My son died Jan10th 2009. in 1990 he was in the Army hospital for a full year only 1 week before he was to be deployed to Kuwaitt.

I don't know ,but if there not they should be. My son Dessert Strom Vet just died Jan.10th 2009 from complications of Gulf War Syncrom he was 17 when what ever the Army did to him and he lived 17 years after that ,I am heart broke.

Tens of thousands of people are crippled by these antibiotics every year. Shame on the drug companies and the FDA for covering this toxicity up.
