When I saw these guys live the guy playing the Er-hu was literally just standing there until his parts came up. I don't know why he was doing it but it was pretty strange. I guess it doesen't matter because the set they did was fucking awesome.

I am no expert, but you might try a different video conversion/compression technique. Maybe use a different software. If you do some research online, you might be able to clean it up really well.
