Barack Obama's plan is to have people who make more than 100 thousand dollars pay social security on the amoutn they make between 100 and 250 thousand dollars. currently we only pay on the first 100 thous, that means people pay on 100% of their income when they make 100 thous and less, people who make more pay on alot smaller % of their income. To Walta007, Social Security initialy established by FDR was something that was able to support the elderly and disabled which was good. Unfortunately being supported by working taxpayers can pose a problem. If the ratio of 16 to every 1 Social Security user turns into 3 to 1 ratio and is currntly dimishing as retirees continue to increase due to medical advancement. It is a system that is failing because of this and is need of what your candidate Obama would call "refinement"

Every generation says that Social Security will not be there for them. The truth is that it was and has been there. To fix, number one, people like McCain should not collect it. He currently does receive it along with his Senators salary. The second thing is to eliminate the salary cap to make it solvent. You never have been able to "live" on Social Security you still need to have other retirement accounts. There is abuse, particularly SS Disability, but that does not mean it should be scraped.
