  • I''m discovering your solo channel, and I really like your music ! You're awesome !

  • Behind the drums he looks like he's desperately trying not to fart and make a crime scene in his pants, but knowing that only minutes ago he ate bean soup with pickled cabbage on the side..

  • So Elliott Smith! I love it

  • Jack conte solo tour, thumbs it up, he needs to do it.

  • Woah! I totally didn't expect this much of a wonderful voice from you! When I see you in the Pomplamoose videos, you always seem like...I don't know. You have such a WONDERFUL voice...I hope that didn't sound rude.

  • have you ever considered playing jazz?

  • I've watched this over and over and over and just realized that that last shot is looped.

  • lol @ psycho drumming face

  • The first 3 chords make me think of "It's a sin to tell a lie" (The Ink Spots). Very nice.

  • Perfect mix of voice, music and emotion. Thank you.

  • Great song :D

  • 0:03 - 0:06 KARMA POLICE!!!

  • Hey Jack , I can't help but notice you stepped your game up recently, production-wise. VS4 sounds amazing, like it's been recorded in a big studio. Is there any interview/blog post/ info summing up the stuff you've learned that made the biggest improvement ? If not, that would make an awesome post for videosongblog!

  • Are there any videos where we can watch your editing process?

  • I go through stages where I listen to this over and over and over. :)

  • I wonder if VS4 could be delivered to France...

  • very cool, thanks for sharing

  • Ah... sounds very Elliott Smith inspired. Very cool.

  • Hey Jack, I agree with the people saying this sounds like Elliott Smith. Both you and Elliott have killer chord changes in your songs reminiscent of Beatles stuff with the vocal harmonies and all. I'm not sure if it is cryptomnesia or coincidence but your this chorus sounds like 'Oh Well, Okay' by Elliott. I really love your work man, inspires me to make more and more interesting music!

  • At our school we have twice a year 2 evenings were everyone can play some music. I realllly love this song and I was wondering if we could play this song there? Me and a few friends are very enthusiastic cause than we have something else than stones, beatles, nirvana and who else.

  • reminds me of Catcher in the Rye

  • Yeah, I was instantly reminded of Elliott Smith when I heard this for the first time. That's a very very good thing, by the way.

  • I love that Jack actually replies to the comments he gets :)

  • anybody knows what studio monitors are those?!?!?

  • Nice one - Beatles live for ever!

  • Everytime I see a real thin guy with a beard i always think he looks like jack

  • ooh I'm feelin some steely dan influence in this one. love it as always :)

  • JACK!!! i play live piano shows once a week at a local restaurant and i wanted to know if i could play this song? (with due credit given of course) i would love for more people to know about you!!!

  • this SCREAMS elliot smith

  • I listen to this song 8-9 times a day since the release, so at least 300 views are mine.

  • @Rhaeide Maybe Jack really only has like 500 EXTREMELY close followers that just watch each video 10 plus times a week to give the illusion of lots of followers.

  • this would be a sick song for a movie with a hallucination/slow mental decay scene.

  • whats the piano/organ like instrument on the left from 1:47-1:49?

  • @nieh31 That's a Wurlitzer 200 Electric Piano.

  • OKOBOJI????? I have family friends that live there! It's quite a nice place to visit any time of the year... and I always get a sinking feeling when I jump into Spirit Lake

  • You remind me of Peter Gabriel when Genesis was young. so much creativity, so much work on sounds and effects, and always an unexpected chord progression. Now THAT's talent! you rock our socks, mate, you really do.

  • I can't purchase your album! The darn webpage won't let me order it! :(

  • Bought VS4. Love it!

  • This is my favorite. I'm gonna need a signed book and CD :D

  • much better than the rnb crap we get these days, you should be on radio 1

  • the crazy beard goes with the song.

  • This is great, I love the piano chords at "nothin' is real anymore"

  • I almost never post on YouTube videos, but I can't stop listening to this amazing song. Thank you so much for creating it!

  • Drummer Jack seems a bit maniacal, perhaps a break from the red bull?? Just a suggestion, haha! Love the album, can't wait for my physical copy to arrive! :) QUICKQUICKQUICK DO LONG LONG TIME AGO!!! I'M DYING!

  • I love how much energy you have Jack, you look a bit like a squirrel on steroids or something, especially when you're drumming :))

  • love this song

  • The refrain is just like heaven :D I can hear it over and over again and don't get sick about it :) I really adore your work! Artists that are so true are very rare today. Keep it up! :)

  • I truly admire you Jack, I wish I could play with you. Well, I do it in my dreams, but I always wake up, and I understand, because it's a dream...

  • Here's what I want to know....how in the heck do I get you on my Pandora? For real man. Tell Pandora to get with it. =) Great stuff, keep it up!

  • Gaaahhhh as ever I'm in awe of your talent. Thanks for brightening my day with your music

  • Definitely some Ben Folds voodoo in this song. I thought it was a cover for a sec with the piano intro. GREAT song!

  • Cant stop listening this song! paydays on thursday! then im buying it!

  • My favorite, by far. This is just amazing. Can't stop listening to it.

  • Good.

    Technically excellent.

    Beatles influence bores me.

C'mon BA people, hasn't the '60s faded away already?

  • @EBenderTheRobot I don't pay attention to influence, I just listen to what's good.

  • Epic.

  • My new favourite of yours! I look up to you, man. You must use some expensive equipment to get that sound...any estimates on the cost for the whole deal? I really want to record my own stuff and have it sound this nice...

  • @azimuth457

Dude the mic that he uses the most (the gray one) is more than a thousand bucks lol.

And his monitors are really expensive too, so yeah if you want an estimate of the cost of his equipment you better be prepared to hear something like 5000 or more lol, actually more way more if you count instruments and video editing software.

Good news is, you can get a decent quality home-recording studio for under 2000. I've spent around 1500 and I still need a bunch of stuff lol.

  • @azimuth457

But if you spend you're money right you can get something good enough to make demos of your songs.

  • @produccionesmiranejo Thanks! I did expect to hear something like that, but part of me was hoping for something more affordable. I have many instruments already, but all my recording and editing equipment either sucks or is non-existant..haha

  • @azimuth457

Well, I guess 500 hundred bucks would be good to get started, or even 200 to get the basic stuff, which would be an interface, a mic, cords, and stands. A recording software usually comes with the interfaces.

  • @produccionesmiranejo That, I can handle!

  • Comment removed

  • @produccionesmiranejo Also, thanks for the advice!

  • @azimuth457

Ohh and the grey mic is the one he used for the piano in this song.

  • I haven't liked anything this much since the beatles !

  • I wonder is it hard to make a "VideoSong"? I betcha it is.. Ya you heard me... Betcha!

  • This song sounds amazing... I love your work :)

    keep it up!

  • So, you've always been awesome, but you're definitely getting better at drums.

  • It's hard to take this one seriously with the toilet paper behind you! :) haha

    But I do like it

  • ok, Jack, you have the coolest music ever. I especially like the Elliot Smith esk stuff (I hope that you don't mind that comparison). But I was wondering with your huge positive seeming personality, where all these different songs with "sinking feelings" (wink) come from? I really like the songs, I am no way criticizing you. Just wondering where it comes from, and why your music with Nataly is so different. I'm sorry if this is a repeat question. :) Keep playing. Your an inspiration to all.

  • Great song as usual but the floor needs vacuumed :)

  • Watching this video over and over again has made me late for work, but it was worth it.

  • I hate how Youtube's new subscription update layout has made me miss everything past Videosongs 2's release. :(

    Great new stuff, btw.

  • Watching your videos makes me want to burn all of my instruments. ;-)

  • I hear a little bit of a Ben Fold's influence here? Maybe?

  • do you make funny faces to be entertaining or is that just a genius at work?

  • this is my alarm clock music......i wake up feeling like im being escorted to existence :)

  • Nice tune and BTW did you go to U of Okoboji.

  • Could you transcribe this please? Or at least do a tutorial? (pretty please?)

  • This is very Elliot Smith. You got a real Mick Fleetwood exuberant look when playing drums too. Like you could explode at any second :)

  • its so funny and awesome how he has that gigantic forced smile while he drums. btw what are those things hes using to drum with? i mean are those like a special kind drum stick or something???

  • @nyne9998 Those are brushes. They take some of the punch out of your drum strikes and break up the sound a bit too.

  • lol for the crazy face when you play the drums

this one goes directly into my favorites

  • @faireset good job songs

  • chords from e to c to c# to d???????????

can play rest by ear but such a great song soooooooo talented you are

    (who doesnt like this song?)

(who doesnt like jack conte music?)

  • @CalRanger123 - Oh MAN!! you asked me about chords, and i'm a sucker for questions about chords, so i had to make a video explaining my answer: youtube.com/watch?v=6MH4av5rirM&feature=channel_video_title

  • @jackcontemusic - oh my wow!!!! u replied

u and nataly r like celebrities and thnx soo much!!!!!!!!

    oh wow!

  • @jackcontemusic I really wanted to follow this link but it doesn't seem to work: Youtube always shows me the homepage. But the way, great song and video. This shaky effect: are this morphings between two tracks where you sing the same tune?

  • @jackcontemusic I sadly cant see the Video i'd be so interrested in it! when i try to open the link i get to the mainpage of youtube!!

  • @agerken Check out JackConteExtras, it's posted on that account :)

  • @jackcontemusic can you repost the link for that video somewhere? the link doesn't seem to work.

  • @jackcontemusic - ah, bugga - the link isn't working, @IHaveDimensia - thanks for letting me know. just search "how to play sinking feeling jack conte" in youtube, and you'll see the video pop up.

  • @jackcontemusic the progression and vocal melody line during the chorus have a great elliott smith feeling/quality to them.

  • @dzurawell19 His voice definitely sounds like Elliot Smith's

  • Just letting you know. You're my favourite artist and I've bought a hard copy of vs4 to be shipped to Ireland! Keep being amazing!

  • Uhm, have you got the chords for piano?

I think your song is absolutely great and i would be rather happy if i could play it too.. ^^

  • Lovely!

  • Man, I love this stuff. This is music that moves me to create.

  • I LOVE this new song of yours! I've checked out all the recent VS4 stuff and am glad to see you back on youtube!!

The song's got a very, Beatles-y feel to it... I think I like it so much, I just might cover it! =P

  • Lol, love the fact that his shirt changes with every instrument! Was this intentional?

  • i got a sinking feeling and listening to a couple of your songs took care of it.

  • also hi!

  • inspired inspired so inspired Olympic inspiration for me :) Thank You Jack, because of your music videos, I am playing and singing my heart and soul and recording, to me thats what your videos do to the average budding musician !.

  • I wanna ask, do you 2 separate instances of vocals and combine together? If so, what's the effect?

Cheers and thanks in advance :)

  • Clearly someone who enjoys his work and puts effort into it. It's hard to find someone like you in the era we're living in.

  • Reminds me very much of the Beatles =)

  • I've just noticed that 0:03 - 0:06 sounds pretty much like the piano on Karma Police, in that part "this is what you get... tananana naananana", anyone else hears the same??

  • @DreadFugitiveMind jesus, you're so friggin right. it gave me chills

  • Did something happened between you and Nataly? :(

  • Elliot Smith

  • You shoulda worn Lenon glasses for 200% effect :P

  • 5 people have no idea what great music is.

  • Awesome , AWESOME job once again, Jack !!! LOVE IT~!!!!!!

  • Elliott Smith is still alive!

  • is this an original or a cover? 'cause it sounds mighty familiar...

  • That song is wonderful, maybe the best of the record?!

  • 5 people have no musical taste.

  • Jack's photo should be next to the word MUSICIAN in every dictionary of every language!

  • @kartiv2 - I thought so too. Very Lennon-esk. But also vey fresh. Great stuff.

  • Some great chord changes Jack

Nice stuff as usual bud Jack

  • FANTASTIC!

  • Great song Jack! Top form!

BTW, what happened to the decor? I miss that shared house feel with the sheets/curtains/padding. LOL! ;) Looks like a professional studio although the carpet looks strangely familliar.

  • great song, great video dude. Keep it up!!!!

  • I heard you solo stuff after I was introduced to Pomplamouse. I don't which came first, but I like how your solo music has its individual sound. I did find, however, that your video style was very much similar (felt like imitating) the pomplamousse look. Is this your intention? Or is it the other way round?

  • @thegreatNEb Jack Conte invented and propagated the VideoSong medium long before Pomplamoose existed.

  • I think you conjured Elliott Smith for this one, and that's a good thing! :D

  • this is so great. I was having a rly crappy day..this made it a little bit better :)

  • Amazing! Can't stop listening to your new album, it's brilliant!!!

  • Your music simultaneously inspires me to write, and makes me want to give up as I will never be that stinking good. So I am giving you a simultaneous high-five for your awesomeness, and an anguished fist-shake....Also for your awesomeness.

  • Your arrangements are genius.

  • It's great!

  • hey man Great Song! I came across this video and think you should give the guy some pointers... He has a good sound and reminded me of you a little. youtube.com watch?v=UXFeH5DAxcY

Thought you would enjoy the sound.

  • Jack i have replayed this video again and again and i cant stop lol... i think at least 100 views are mine...

  • Here before us lies a musical genius.

  • 5 people got problems with their boot

  • 5 people are deaf

  • You've got a very unique taste in chord progression. I love it.

  • lol awesome smile dude! :D

  • This is so Lenon - I just figure out why I instantly love it so much

  • @kartiv2 Your music is great too!

  • @kartiv2 With a little bit of Eliot Smith for good measure.
