I use NIS since I work for Symantec, but I also use Adaware and Spybot for free. By far the best tool is to know the programs and services / procs you are running and use hijack this to strip it out.

I recently had spyware and found a autorun file so i deleted it. What I didn't know was that the autorun file was there before i reinstalled windows. so i found it after i reinstalled. Naturally, it ran itself on a clean windows system. It does registry changes that spybot stops. My one question is if it infects .jpeg and .jpg files. When I put in my U3 16 g flash (only has photos) my mouse kept loading, then the regular mouse showed up. Is this because it is copying the virus? PLEASE HELP!!!

I used to have AVG, then Avast. I finally opted for Avira AntiVir Free Edition, which is incredibly light and fast, and still congratulate myself for having done so. :D

For a firewall, I couldn't recommend enough Ashampoo Firewall. Similar to ZoneAlarm, but with a nicer interface and more intuitive and user-friendly.

Against spywares, I use Malwarebytes, Arovax, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware.

thats not true,there are many viruses and wormbots that can pass passwords,and is more dangerous if theres a hacker on the control,he can use other type of virus that is not in the wild and that is very dificult to detect,those virus are pretty much like MSSQL.WORM.HELKERN,it´s allmost impossible for antivirus to detect these kind of virus because they only run on the Ram,and dont register themeself´s in the system.
