This guy is so wrong.. Creed and Bond aren't that niche and are rather boring. There are so many more wonderful niche brands, and niche perfume is 100% better than commercial. They are formulated to last longer on the skin with higher oil concentration and especially unique scents will take 2 hours to become perfect on the skin. Try Byredo, Natomasso, Frederick Malle, Le labo... Why smell like the same average watery crap everyone else does?
Hey Tim, I totaly agree with you. I tried a By Kilian fragrance a few weeks ago (Love). Just to compare it with a designer fragrance on all fronts like longevity, projection and the basenotes. I really was impressed by it. The longevity was over 14 hours and the projection was verry good and constant. So with this one I must say that the quality is better although I wouldn't pay 175 bucks for it.
The more you have designer perfumes in your wardrobe, the more you get bored of them and curious to find a different scent than most people use. I agree with you, that some of those niche perfumes are stink and offensive to people (hey, but same goes to A*Men too, doesn't it?). So far, I fall in love with Xerjoff, Lorenzo Villoresi, Nejma Puro, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Frederic Malle, Serge Luten, Tauer and the list goes on.... (not a fan of Bond No. 9 though)
You can't go wrong with a Creed fragrance, really. ANY Creed is cool, just for the sake of wearing something that very few wear. If you want a UNIQUE fragrance that is overall wonderful, you can't go wrong with a Creed fragrance.
The absolute BEST niche fragrance, in my humble opinion - that even tops all Creed fragrances I have smelled - is called KOBE by the fragrance line XERJOFF. This juice is simply unreal and is beyond pleasant. The cheapest I found for this is 345 US dollars for 1.7 oz.
While I do enjoy some designer frags, I find the NIche to be more appealing, as you stated, they are of much better quality of ingredients used in the niche than designer frags. But dont get me wrong.... YVES SAINT LAURENT DOES NOT HAVE TO TAKE A BACK SEAT TO ANY NICHE FRAG HOUSE! They would be my fav designer house! But NIche frags like Creed, Bond No. 9, Tom Fords Private Collection etc. I prefer those if I can afford them! :) BTW Tom Ford is a GENIUS when it comes to creating frags!
I think men mostly choose designer fragrances because they want to play it safe :they want to be appealing and pleasant to everyone. They pick a fragrance because it is popular, known as a compliment getter. Niche fragrances are much more complex and have a strong personality. It requires maturity to feel comfortable wearing them. But if you smell a niche fragrance that you trully fall in love with, my advice is go for it, and don't worry about some people not liking it. Now THAT is attractive.
Nice ideas Tim. I'm with you on the unique and premium quality of raw ingredients for those niche fragrances.
IMHO, they are towards high-end customers. I am not really impressed that much with neither Creed GIT nor MI. It might be because I sniffed from decants or samples.
Anyway, I will still stick my Armani Code, Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Boss No.6 and so on to be easy on my wallet lol :)
interesting vid and responses from all the reviewers. but i got a quick question.
If creating a fragrance with pure oils makes the longevity and projection suffer how come eu de parfums last longer and project more than an eu de toilette or a eau de cologne?
I think it can go both ways, both niche and designer. There are well done and appealing frags from both extremes as there are horrid and unappealing from both as well. In terms of finding which one is worth one's while and money, I say Designer>Niche for the reason that they project better and posses more longevity. If I'm dropping $150 or more for a frag, it better be worth it. For that price you can buy 2 designer that will get the job done just as well if not better.
Haha, I used to believe Curve was the best fragrance out there and although it does smell nice, compared to some of my high-end frags now, I don't know what I was thinkin!
I just say wear whatever floats your boat. For me it differs on a day to day basis. One day i want to smell "generic" and not stand out, another day i want to smell like a factory with xmas ornaments! It's all about the mood that's going on.
niche FTW! i dont wanna smell like everybody. no more designer bottles/samples/decants for me with the exception of a*men pure malt, m7 and chanel allure pour homme (my top 3 designer)
Great take on the subject Tim! I completely agree... while both are certainly fun and amazing, designer fragrances are easier (for me) to wear on a day to day basis. On the other hand, there is nothing like getting a bottle of a coveted niche fragrance. Thanks for posting
I compare designer fragrances to pop music and niche to those blogspots that post weird and obscure stuff you'll probably never hear on the radio. There's pros and cons to both. Designer fragrances can oftentimes be boring and vapid which you rarely find in the niche market (except for some houses like Bond no.9). But then some niche are really unusual.. and I wanna smell nice not weird. It's all about finding what you like! Sample, sample, sample.
Hy Tim this ws a GRAT VID!!! and am new to colognes so am nt sure if neiche fragrances r worth it some neiche fragrances r worth it but i like mass market fragrances. :DDDDD
lol Who was in the room man? A burgler? That was some funny shit going on when you kept looking away at whoever was distracting you. Good vid pal keep it up.
I like both of them but prefer niche Creed I will be doing a review on my findings (I tested the knock offs of creed fragrances at the same time on different hands and seriously Creed is better, I even asked people who didn't know what I was doing.
I completely agree Tim I have alot of designer fragrances i really like and will continue to wear.
However, these new Creed am getting and testing just smell so natural n unique n just amazing i think everyone needs to at least try them and own at least 1 bottle.
I rememeber planning on only buyin 1 and now i got 2 comin and wanna order at least 1 more right now lol
Wait until you test drive those Tom Ford Private Blends at Neiman Marcus. My friend smelled those and bought 2 bottles. Dude was in love with Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille.
Great Job Tim, Creed is my current favorite Niche House. I agree that GIT and MI are the two representatives of the house. If you are getting into Bond No. 9 there are only a few nice scents that would be worth buying. These are: New Haarlem (Gourmand), Central Park (Green), Great Jones (Fresh/Green/Woody), and Brooklyn (Woody Oriental). These are worth trying Tim. Tell me what you think.
I definitely prefer Niche. I'm not saying designer is bad so don't take it the wrong way guys, but just for me personally, in the long run I end up not liking the 'syntheticness' of designer mass market fragrances. Yes, natural oils used in niche do have a lot of drawbacks such as volatility, or that they go rancid after a couple of years, or that they are expensive! But in the end, for me, its all about the smell, so if it doesn't smell good TO ME, then why bother?
i like both niche and designer. people may complain that designer scents are too popular and worn everywhere,,, but honestly i only notice more than one person wearing the same frag if i'm at a club and smell a lot of people wearing 1 Million for example. niches can be great because their scent may be more natural and worth the buy, but it doesn't mean you have to buy only nice.
Btw Tim... where did your Urlacher poster go?!?!?!?!
Personally, I like designer fragrances. It's a little too expensive for me to be buying niche fragrances like creed, but i have a sample of green irish tweed and i love it. I'd like to be able to afford both, but right now designer it is.
A designer house before it launches a new fragrance they study the market. The chances of us liking it are higher than any other niche. I love Designer Fragrances!
i completely agree with you on the niche fragrances. some are just flat out weird but when you get one you like, it's pretty incomparable.
i got a sample of Bond no. 9 New Harlem and i just really do not like it. on the other hand, Bond no. 9 Brooklyn is one of my favorite fragrances i've ever worn.'
you just really have to try them out before you drain 100+ dollars on one.
It's Andy Warhol Silver Factory. Yeah, that one was an incense overload.
Designer fragrance = Vacation
Niche fragrance = Adventure
A vacation is cheap, pleasant, and requires little effort. Is a weekend spent poolside enjoyable? For sure!
An adventure is expensive, interesting, and needs to be appreciated for the journey. A safari may not always be comfortable, but it might be something you truly enjoy.

Yeah the niche last 5 hours at best. The longevity and good smell of a designer. Is favored by most. IMO
