What a brilliant song, lovely chord changes a fantastic segue into the chorus and one cool double back into the main melody line. Sting is one ubertalented motherfucker.
Well I got out the "Dream Of The Blue Turtles" album out for a spin (vinyl), for the first time in MANY years, &, I was somewhat disappointed, it didn't hold up as well as I remembered it doing. However, this song, on the other hand, still is absolutely incredible, I could listen to this one over & over!
@dkthg -- Uhh..........what's the matter? Didn't like my comment for some reason?? Too damn bad, deal with it. I also listened to all 5 original studio Police albums earlier this year & enjoyed them very much! I'm entitled to my opinion, & I don't really give a shit if someone here on YT doesn't like it. It's not like I was trashing Sting........
@dkthg --- Wow........did you really think that was a picture of me???? LOL.......now you got me laughing my ass off..........Maybe you should put a weasel between that cleavage of yours.........lol !!
@jeffthrow6892 HELL no! I learned my lesson the first time! I dropped my pet hamster down there a month ago and i havent seen him since! Oh Lemiwinks, i miss you SO much.....
Always great to read his words..What I love about Sting is,like the Beatles,he always continued to grow...And-the best songwriter-especially love songs -since Lennon/McCarthy-
I love this song so much! It has often lifted me out of ruts or bad moods! It just has that oomph! The music is brilliant, and the lyrics complete it. Music at its best!
How good would this song have been with The Police? Such a shame that he felt he had to indulge in ths narcissistic quasi-Fusion pap. You can even hear Copeland's ride cymbal bells in the chorus. And can you imagine the guitar drenched in Summer's spacious chorus pedal? Without any of the hollow, whiney noodling on a soprano saxophone? Heartbreaking...
This song is just so amazing!! So beautiful!! Sting sure put out some excellent songs. Takes me back to better days. This song takes me back to days of true happiness and innocence. I miss those days. My heart just aches for those days. What a time that was! Never to be forgotten! There was a magic in the air back then that you just cant feel today and that is a real shame. This song is pure magic in itself! Missing those days but hold the memories in my heart forever!! ♥♥
Magic ... around Valentine's Day each year, I reference this song, and Sting's "If you love someone, set them free," and Steven Still's, "Love the One You're With, and lines from Macartney's, "The End," in a lecture I give on "The Economics of Finding True Love." But I start with Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love," because before you can give love to another, or receive love from someone, you must first love yourself. Platitudes, but my students take it to heart. And I believe it all myself.
sting made a documentary about his first solo concert,,,i saw it about 4 times a long time ago,,it was set in a french mansion and he was auditioning for band members,, this song was included, can anybody please tell me the name of the film, i think its called the dream of the blue turtle, it was magic
tHIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VERSIONS OF THIS CLASSICS i'VE HEARD YET! THANX 4 THE GREAT POST!

He looks really good for a man his age. In fact he's 59 years old but looks at least 15 20 years younger to me.

who hasn't yet had a love affair go to hell, and live through this song's scenario? Pray it never happens, "sadder but wiser" isn't always worth it -

This song is about divorce. Sting is showing how painful divorce can be. The truth is, it is.

I wish I could find a song that sounds like the chorus of this one. That's the best part! "And I I built a fortress around your heart..."

One of Sting's more "Police-y" solo songs
You could easily imagine Andy playing that chiming sequence on guitar.

True.
It's the song that sounded most like a Police one among those included in "The Dream of the Blue Turtles".

Precious love should be wrapped in cotton wool - not stung to see how long it can survive.

@whenwemeet2 methinks you miss the point. The inspiration for this song was the pain he felt from the failure of his first marriage.

If you could actually pick a favorite from Sting this would be mine. Man what an artist--loved the band lineup in this time period as well.
