I would like to use this opportunity to express just how much I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG, IT'S CONTAINING EVERYTHING I VALUE COMPRESSED INTO FIVE MINUTES OF TONES, it's pure brilliance, it's what makes us human beings unique and now I have no more coherent thoughts to translate what I feel.
Freaking beautiful. Jeff Loomis is definitely on a completely different level of guitar playing. Normally I don't like instrumental shred albums because (in my opinion of course) they're just pure wank with no intentions of writing a good song. Jeff Loomis did the seemingly impossible by writing killer songs and comibining that with his ridiculous technical ability. With that said, here's my message to him: thanks for making me wanna quit playing guitar because I'll never be this good lol
Players in the same league as Jeff technically.....there arent many...George Bellas example song =(Shedding Skin)...Bumblefoot = (Guitars Still Suck) Tony MacAlpine =(Hundreds of Thousands).... and a few others..Uli Roth of course comes to mund
Paul Gilbert Who ? Yngweegee What ? Steve Vai not ? Joes Stumped ? Vinny More or less ? Joe Satriani all Guitar Soloists in their own Right but good Lord this Loomis Cat is UnGodly Gifted could very well be the BEST of the Bunch!
So... are we supposed to commend you on liking :white" music even through your oppression? Or... believe that it must really be good, if even a black hood rat likes it? I mean seriously, what does your race or upbringing have to do with the quality of Jeff's playing? Nothing... if you hadn't guessed. Comments, and even worse, attitudes like yours are what perpetuate division, hatred, and racism. Get over it already jackass.
@xenthar79 You say that attitudes like his are what perpetuate division, hatred and racism yet you use the term black hood rat as if that doesn't demean a race too. Sure, your race doesn't matter when listening to Jeff Loomis, it's colorless and it touches the souls of all men. Isn't that all the more reason to let someone tell their experience with Jeff's music on a youtube page? You shouldn't down someone because they give a little background of how they got into the music.
@REvamp91590 No, my use of the term "black hood rat" was in direct reference to him saying it... And I'm not downing him or his background... I'm criticizing him for using his background to validate Jeff's talent, and/or his illusion of ascendance because even he... a black guy who grew up in the hood likes it, as though he's a better black person... As I said it's a stupid attitude that creates division and a sense of inequality.
@xenthar79 Oh okay, I see. Then excuse my outburst, I misunderstood your words. Though I think he was trying to get at that he broke the status quo (musically) by listening to Jeff Loomis which now I suppose is a little silly. You can listen to Jeff Loomis and still be a dumbass no matter where you're from. Well I apologize man, my mistake.
There isn't a dislike for this video.. What happened was that individual was shaking violently after hearing this song, and accidentally hit the thumbs down. I mean, obviously....
Jason Becker does have ALS, but his family made up a form of contact. To this day he still writes music via eye motions. Goes to show, a man can deny fate.
@suluprince and Michael Lee Firkins and Greg Howe and Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, etc. So many great guitarists are willing to support him. You can tell what a big influence Becker had on Loomis, especially in his song Sacristy.
@HolyReprisal hmm, thats really hard to say you know? i mean if you really pick things apart, then maybe you can notice a slight difference, but jeff is definitely making more attractive music. i hate when cooley just makes songs that are endless shredding. loomis makes high points and low points in the song, so better dynamics.
Yeah, I hate it when people assume something has no "soul" or "emotion" just because it's fast/technical/etc. Songs like "Jato Unit" and "Race against Disaster" are upbeat bliss.
@Thgreatfailure Meh fuck you. Its my opinion. You dont have to agree with it. Its just the tone of his guitar in the beginning that reminded me of Avenged Sevenfold. Loomis shits on Synyster Gates.
@sinzlife1: Solution .45, Swallow the Sun, Nevermore, Kamelot, Anata, Kalmah, Skyfire, occasionally Tool, Anaal Nathrakh, Lamb of God (2nd and 3rd album only), Behemoth, Scar Symmetry, Vital Remains, The Berzerker, Origin, Psyclon Nine, a handful of rock bands.
Nothing terribly underground, really. Just bands with at least a handful of talent.
@zaktan415: Megadeth is pretty good. Kinda boring to me, for the most part (I'm not big on Mustaine's vox), but the guitarwork and overall writing is pretty badass.
This is the first song to ever move me to tears, if thats not crazy enough, im a Big Young black man raised in the the hood who has been fed rap music all his life, even in that i had the insight and intellectual level to open myself to other genres of music, of all the music from classical to death metal only this track and sacristy have actually produced tears, jeff loomis you are a fucking genius.
@black0dragon0kai I understand. I too am a young black man who has found his way into the world of metal after years of rap. I tell you what, when I decided to stick to metal, it was one of the greatest days of my musical life. Jeff Loomis is one of my favorite guitarist and though it's a far shot, I plan on getting just as good as he is. That is one mountain I have absolutely no problem trying to climb! Just wanted to tell you you're not alone in your admiration of Loomis!
@2hafstylezk First off all, I didn't say I completely stopped listening to it. I said I decided to stick to metal meaning I decided to keep listening to it. Second of all, who are you to look down on me and call me a sad human for abandoning a music genre that has barely declined in quality in the last few years? I still listen to rap (the good of it anyway). Maybe you should chill out or something and not judge me for something I didn't even said.
@black0dragon0kai you are a very wise gentleman and have fine taste in music, I love it when I hear things like this, it makes me have more faith in the world
@black0dragon0kai Dude I'm soo sorry I'm meant to hit the thumbs up button and clicked on the thumbs down button on accident! I'm so sorry! I loved your comment!
from 1:42 to 1:48 i thought i made up that lick but then i turned on my ipod and it turns out i feel a sleep to that song and this suck someone show stop jeff loomis he's stealling all the badass licks damn he's to good!
i love how loomis can play fast and remain to have the amazing feeling over it all. and you have to give some cred to the drummer because if it was some blast beat the feeling would be drained =P
This is one of the best songs on Zero Order Phase. Jeff is one of my favourite guitarists of all time and this track proves it. He is the modern day Beker. It sounds like a tribute to Becker. I love it.
The point is all good guitar players have their own thing.... This is a Jeff Loomis link and I'll enjoy Loomis here rather than talk about someone else I was only giving an example initially about how talent is just not in one person but many. Anyways enjoy the music to me Jeff is one of the most creative and technically gifted guitar players ever!
@immortalsoloist mate your making good point how ever I think when you said is "technically gifted" it was a insult to Jeff, as he was not "gifted" rather he worked very hard and put a lot of practice into the skill he has ACHIEVED, so you know just take that into consideration but overall I see your complementing loomis which is fantastic i love his playing too! I don't mean to come across as correcting you so sorry if I have come across as that. Shred forever!!!
No no I didn't take anything negatively that you said to me. See you misunderstood me a little when I said he is technically gifted he obviously achieved that gift by working really hard and doing a good amount of practice and everything. Sometimes you get gifts by the work you do as an achievement that was the point I was making. I didn't mean to say he didn't work hard. That is a given thing that he worked a lot to be where he is at:)
@immortalsoloist cool mate I'm glad you meant that because there are a lot of ignorant guys on you tube that think that " well you could never be like him cos he was born gifted " and "and everyone who is success in music is blessed with a natural gift" so hopefully you can see why i made the comment I made and tbh there really just insulting their "heroes" by saying that. peace
@conorthealien I totally agree with you. Certainly being an artist is a gift but that does not mean you don't work hard to make that gift in to a part of your soul.. You can be gifted but if you don't work hard and keep learning you'll never be able to open that gift. That is something people need to understand :) and you are absolutely right man!
Why can't people just shut up and appreciate good music. Rusty is the John Coltrane sheesh what is this non sense every good guitar player has their own thing I know guys that can play just as fast as Rusty that's not even the point Rusty has his place.... All virtuosos do and more importantly it's about the choice of notes not how many you can play in a certain amount of time... Check out people like Guthrie Govan he does some of the most brilliant things on guitar but this is not about that
I don't watch the grammy crap but I heard Judas Priest got best metal performance. They should make best guitar performance just so Jeff Loomis would be on my TV lol. Then I would actually watch it.
@Darkdevil1584 yeah grammys are bull shit just look back a few years when jethro tull beat metallica in the best hard rock album.... yeah its bull shit.
@FedorCroCop44 Rap does not suck, new hip hop sucks. Rap doesn't suck really, it just gets owned by this. Please do not be ignorant in saying "Rap sucks"
I like Laiho for different reasons than Loomis. I enjoy Laiho's playing, because of his flair. He reminds me a lot of Rhodes. Loomis reminds me of the likes of Friedman, occasionally Becker, and Malmsteen. His clarity is unmatched for his speed. Technically, I don't think there is any one out there who can touch Loomis.
Geez, I listen to stuff like this all day, then my friends make fun of me for being a metal addict and run off so they can listen to shit like taylor swift, john mayer, and the jonas brothers. Music today is such a fucking joke.

@conorthealien Hey man,
No no I didn't take anything negatively that you said to me.
Cheers.

@immortalsoloist cool mate I'm glad you meant that because there are a lot of ignorant guys on you tube that think that " well you could never be like him cos he was born gifted " and "and everyone who is success in music is blessed with a natural gift" so hopefully you can see why i made the comment I made and tbh there really just insulting their "heroes" by saying that. peace
conorthealien 1 year ago
@conorthealien I totally agree with you. Certainly being an artist is a gift but that does not mean you don't work hard to make that gift in to a part of your soul.. You can be gifted but if you don't work hard and keep learning you'll never be able to open that gift. That is something people need to understand :) and you are absolutely right man!
Cheers.

Nice to hear some Jason Becker in this.
Jeff truly has the perfect balance between technique and feeling, plus he has his very own unique guitar style.
Awesome guitar player, great song.

I don't watch the grammy crap but I heard Judas Priest got best metal performance. They should make best guitar performance just so Jeff Loomis would be on my TV lol. Then I would actually watch it.

slipknot almost got best band of the year for metal. lol grammys fail
Darkdevil1584 2 years ago 9
@Darkdevil1584 yeah grammys are bull shit just look back a few years when jethro tull beat metallica in the best hard rock album.... yeah its bull shit.

Even if there were such a category they would probably be biased and pick someone lesser

Neoclassical always sounds godlike when played by the right person. Jeff Loomis is one of those people.
FrostyManElemental 2 years ago 37
@FrostyManElemental neo classical is god like PERIOD its the most technical form of guitar playing rap sucks
FedorCroCop44 1 year ago
@FedorCroCop44 Rap does not suck, new hip hop sucks. Rap doesn't suck really, it just gets owned by this. Please do not be ignorant in saying "Rap sucks"

Jeff Loomis is my hero

I like Laiho for different reasons than Loomis. I enjoy Laiho's playing, because of his flair. He reminds me a lot of Rhodes. Loomis reminds me of the likes of Friedman, occasionally Becker, and Malmsteen. His clarity is unmatched for his speed. Technically, I don't think there is any one out there who can touch Loomis.

hell yeah!

Technically speaking. Rusty Cooley is better. Musically speaking Jeff Loomis is better.
Kazuath 1 year ago 7
@Kazuath Rusty Cooley is the John Coltrane of guitar: probably the fastest, most technical player of the instrument, but he sounds like ass.

Geez, I listen to stuff like this all day, then my friends make fun of me for being a metal addict and run off so they can listen to shit like taylor swift, john mayer, and the jonas brothers. Music today is such a fucking joke.
ThunderingBiscuit 2 years ago 29
Which is a bigger joke? They insult you and say you have a bad taste? Or them running off to listen to crap?
Either way, You're the superior there clearly. Well, Musically I mean. You are the wolf among sheep.
