Now, My question is, Can I install 2 of my Nvidia GTX 480's onto this board.

Because it only says "CrossFire Ready." :(

If the board doesn't support SLI then you can't use the GTX 480's in SLI. However any board with 2 X PCI-E slots will allow you to run two GTX 480's, you just might not be able to use them in SLI.

Whether its an AMD or Intel board is irrelevant.

you could get better temps if yo connect the pump to the radiator and radiator to cpu. the pump puts some heat in the loop .

The Mac Pro uses i7s. 4 core 8 thread. So unless it was a single CPU the i7 would get rolled. I actually own an i7 computer myself and love it. Why anyone would need two in a computer is beyond me.

Just want to point out something to people saying that an 8 core setup like this is pointless because nehalems (i7) has 8 threads. A nehalem has 8 threads but only 4 cores, so each thread technically is only half the speed of it's core, whereas this has 8 actual cores and so this at 2.93 ghz will top any single cpu i7 rig, even up to around 6 ghz if you could get it that high.

No more cores is needed. an i7 920 (OC to 4-5 GHz) will do GREAT. No software now, 10yrs from now won't use more then 4 cores. go for an i7 build, OC with powerful liquidcooling. As well as a 4870x2 - maybe crossfire? :D

I have a simular build (except my motherboard is a D5400XS and GeForce 260GTX), same CPU, Xeon E5430 running at 2.66GHz at the moment, once I get some memory coolers, I shall be giving a go at overclocking my machine.

I bult mine nearly a year ago after my Athlon XP2200 died, I also modified my case to accept E-ATX motherboards (by 'streching' it and replacing the motherboard tray with a custom built one)

Well, actually, the Xeons have their multiplers locked (except for the Xeon that has been branded Core2 QX9775), so basically I am having to do the same as you are by increasing the Vcore.

One reccomendation I can give to you is to purchase Kingston HyperX FB-DIMMs as they are faster than regular FB-DIMMs and heat isn't too much of an issue.

I must admitt I was on the cheaper option but the Z7S WS was not released at the time, spent under £1500 on my machine

there are a couple dual cpu i7 xeon boards out already that are good for workstation, but none like the skulltrail. I'd give intel maybe another year/2year before they design a chipset that will allow dual i7 xeon overclocking.

vista or any operating system requires no configuration to use more than one core. it will use as many cores as there are available.

operating systems are not made like applications where it only utilizes one/two threads.

just make sure you get a 64bit OS. that is more important.

yes produKtNZ, you are right. that way would provide the best 'cooling' per CPU, but I didn't have a 2nd radiator at the time. plus with at triple rad, it is enough to cool both CPUs. believe it or not the CPU that is the first in the loop, actually runs 2-4C hotter.

I wonder if the pump is heating the water slightly then?, I know there is that issue with the Ehiem pumps dumping heat into the water (With being AC pumps and all), But swiftech MCP's?

I have one loop, and the first CPU from the Rad runs hotter than the 2nd one. only slightly.

there is a possibility the pump dumps some heat. which is why it goes from pump to rad.

they have updated the BIOS btw. but no significant changes to boost performance imo. just compatibility issues.

time to move on and go with x58 and i7 :\ this build is dated..but still good
